50' Prime Time vs Sci-Fi

Both utilize great themes...

However, Prime Time Cafe's food tends to be a tad better (granted neither restaurant's food is really specatcular in my opinion, except for the wonderful desserts. ). You go to these places for the theming. Choose which one appeals to you more!:D

I echo what you said.

I find the food at Sci-Fi to be average at best and overpriced. The food has been a little better at PT Cafe on my trips.

The theming is what makes each restaurant though.

i was not at all impressed with the sci-fi. the food was blah, the service wasn't that good, i didn't like sitting so close behind someone in a car ( i felt their hair was in my food)

the PT cafe though is pretty cool, we liked the old stuff (it looked like my in-law's house!) and the food was much better.

I have never eaten in the Sci-Fi drive in but the menu didnt blow me away. Now the Prime Time......This is usually a restaurant that I just dont miss on any of my trips. One of the newest favorites for me is a Penne Pasta with Shrimp, Artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, chopped tomatoes tossed in an herb butter sauce!!! SPECTACULAR!!!! Plus they have some more homestyle stuff such as Fried chicken ( excellent), pot roast, & Meatloaf. Well worth a look-see especially if you like S'mores!!! One of the house specialty desserts there. Have a great time and let us know which one you did!! Belle

wow - tough call, two of my favorite places to eat at WDW :)

favorites DEFINATELY because of the themeing tho - food at both joints is average - good, but nothing spectacular

i would think prime time might be better with the kids. the cast members definately have a great time playing with guests there, and think it's the more FUN of the two.

sci fi's theme might be a bit better than prime time, but there isn't as much interaction between guests and cast (interaction aside from the 'hello, welcome, what would you like to drink...) in my experience everyone usually tends to sit quietly - eating, and watching the movie clips...

another thing to consider is the table layouts at the sci fi (front seat / back seat for most cars). though it may not be a problem since your children are a bit older...

both are definately a blast no matter which you decide, tho if you do hit the prime time, be sure to wash your hands, keep your elbows off the table and finish your veggies :)

There both great and pretty much both take place around the dos and 60s. only that in one u sit in a car and the othere in a kitchen the food is a bit difrent but not by much. i think the best way for u to decide is by looking at the menus. Check this site out go to www.allearsnet.com once there click on debs unofficial guide and u can look under dinning for the meuns. which ever u pick im sure u will have a great time. Just make sure to get priority seating so u can get the best seats in the house like a kitchen in 50s prime time or the car in scifi.:)

I'm in the minority. I have never been to the PT Cafe, but the Sci-Fi is a must for us on every trip. I'll admit that the food is not great, but it's fun to sit in the car and watch the b movies.

We went to the Sci-Fi diner in 2001 for our honeymoon for dinner and had a BLAST. The food was great ( we had a quesadilla and shrimp fettachini alfredo) and our waitress kept us in stitches.

HOWEVER, we went back in 2002 and were sadly dissappointed. The food wasn't much better than fast food and was expensive, and the cast wasn't nearly as funny. Of course, it may be the difference between Dinner and Lunch (2002 was lunch).

My suggestion, if you want to go in, sit down and take a break, make late afternoon PS and go in for a snack (a shake and appetizers). You'll get to see the inside and relax. Just don't go with high expectations on the food side! Since we're fans of that B sci-fi comedy, it was fun for us.

Never been to Prime Time.
Mama Melroses is our favorite lunch spot. They have GREAT Sangria!

I have to agree with the majority of the other people- Prime Time is better. While I enjoyed Sci-Fi, I think I would rather pay that much at some place more deserving. Prime Time has AWESOME smores, but beware of the meatloaf. On our last visit, 3 of our party had the meatloaf and they all regretted getting it. It just wasn't like "mom's" meatloaf.

If you do get a chance, the atmosphere in Sci-Fi is neat, so drop in and look around... but have dinner at PrimeTime. The waitpeople can be hiliarious!

ENJOY!

Prime time Cafe has great food and a fun theme
BUT
SOME of the waitstaff pushes their authority TOO FAR and are actually RUDE.

We had a waiter the last time we were there and he just made me VERY uncomfortable because he was just MEAN.

So I guess its like everything else anywhere... service is gonna be a coin toss. But its usually pretty fun so thats got my vote! :sohappy:

Prime Time is awesome! We loved it! Four of us went there and had a whole meal then ate the S'mores dessert. The waitress laughed and asked if we wanted another one. (mind you, this thing was huge) I said, "If we eat the entire second one, do we get it free?" and she said "If you can finish the second one it will be on the house." We barely stuffed it down but it was a GREAT experience.

TIP: Do NOT ride Tower of Terror after eating 2 S'mores desserts.

My choice is for Sci-Fi diner vs. Prime Time cafe. I know Prime has a thing where the waiters are in "character" acting like your mother, father, older brother, etc. Thank you very much, but I don't want to pay good money for a meal and then be treated to a waiter acting in a rude manner. I can get that at home for free.

I gotta say that I enjoy Sci-Fi the best. It's a great experience eating there, the food, well, is ok, but that doesn't really matter. It's fun sitting in the place, and the waiters are really nice. I've never had a fun experience at the Prime Time. I'll take Sci-Fi any day.

Sci Fi is the BEST. Huge drive in screen with trailers for campy sci-fi 50s movies. Take enough people in your party to fill up both rows of the car, and you won't have that creepy feeling of sharing a cab with a stranger. So the food is like fast food? Who cares - eat there for lunch and have a blast. Save room for an ice cream brownie dessert or washi it down with a milkshake and you won't remember the burger/chicken anyway!

The last time I was there, they gave the kids glow-in-the-dark Sci-Fi frisbees with their kids meals and those were very cool souveniers of our day at Disney MGM.

Does it sound like I am de-emphasizing the food? I'll admit that when it comes to FINE DINING, I will head elsewhere, but it won't be Prime Time either! They are both good for a unique dining experience you won't get at the food court comissary or whatever it is called.

For a lunch break from the heat, Sci-Fi can't be beat! I won't go to Disney MGM without eating lunch there.

Well, my vote goes to Sci-Fi, we had enough to fill a car and a half, and the boys sat in a seperate car next to us, everyone loved it and the people in the other car were very nice to the boys. The food to us seemed not like typical fast food (McD's) more like Steak n Shake, good, a bit pricey, but it was fun and the kids still play with their glowin frisbees! However, at Prime-Time the waitress wasn't so friendly with our group ( 5 children) (only 2 are ours) and seemed annoyed at best, that we were there. I will let our group of 12 decide this year which places they want to go, but will recommend for the families that want to do Prime Time, they do it on their "alone" day.
