5 in a Room?

My wife, my 2 daughters, and I are planning to stay five nights at a standard room in the Pop Century next March.

Now, we are considering bringing along my nephew, who my girls get along with. His parents can't afford to bring him, and they both work, so they can't come with. We think that it would be nice to give him the Disney experience.

Anyway, since there are five of us going, do we need to book another room? I could bring along an air mattress, and the kids could switch off each night.

I really would prefer to do this rather than rent out a whole new room. Does Disney/Pop Century allow it?

Thanks! :)

I've heard of two entire families that vacation together and share All Star rooms. Space-wise you'll be fine and it's prefectly doable. And if those stories are true, an extra child will not make a huge difference.

However, Pop (or any other Resort for that matter) do not officially allow Guests to exceed the maximum number set for the room, in your case 4, b/c of codes and stuff.

Yet, many Guests do take advantage of saving a lot of money this way, especially when children are involved.

You can do it. As guidebooks say, it's feasible to do, but it is "illegal" as per Disney rules.

Do what you think is best for the situation.

Definatley doable and even though it exceeds the room capacity standards set by Disney, I dont think you will have a problem. Its not like you are having a Magical Gathering of eight people staying in a room. Especially since three of the five are kids.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

In the Parks
No
I've done that...I just "omitted" a name when making the reservation to only show 4 people in the room. I've actually, and don't flame me, had 6 in a room at AllStars Music! (Myself and 5 15-year old girls).

If you're really concerned about being on the up-and-up, you'd have to transfer your reservation to POR or a Deluxe which do allow 5 in a room.

If one of your children is under 3 it doesn't count.

Our DD loves sleeping in the pack and play, I don't know how I am going to get her out of it for her little sister to sleep in it this year.

While Disney does not allow it, they don't seem to make such a big deal over children being extra. However they will not accomodate for there sleeping or towels so make sure you have some kind of arangment for your newhew (sleeping bag air matress etc..)

Some of the mod and deluxe resorts have room for 5 and have a day bed in the room instead in addtion to 2 queen size beds. Worth checking out.

5 occupants?

I think that you will be just fine with 5 in a room. I understand that it is against the Disney rules, but I don't see how this would be a problem. Especially since his parents are unable to bring him at this time. I think it is wonderful that you and your family would bring him along to experience the magic. Just be cognizant of their rules.

However, if you need to (to ease you mind), stay at 1 of the moderate resorts that allow 5 to stay in a room. It doesn't cost a lot more to do this. I really don't think you would have a problem, but I do understand the anxiety of going against Disney policy..

Be sure to have a great time. Your nephew will definitely remember the experience.

12 days to go until we board a plane to come home for 8 days.

Too many per room

Just a quick story. My uncle took his family 2 years ago to the Contemporary Resort. It was him and his wife, and 2 kids (both over 4 yrs old). They too also decided to take a nephew who would probably never go otherwise. When they got to the resort, they were told they would need to buy an extra room because the standard room only fit 4 people (with nephew 5 total, all kids under 15). This upset the whole family to the point where the kids started crying. My uncle was about to blow a gasket when the CM's boss showed up, and offered to upgrade the family to a Suite for a nominal one time fee ($53 if i remember correctly). This totally made the trip for the family!:sohappy:

It just goes to show that a little common sense and some real customer care can go such a long way. My uncle and his family had the best trip ever, and even sent a glowing letter to the boss thanking him for making the trip memorable.

Again, a little planning goes a long way. One child sleeping on the floor (the fifth person) isnt going to make a big deal. Just buy one of the park hoppers at the gate and not at the check in desk.......

The Contemporary allows 5 in a room. I have no idea why your uncle was told otherwise.

If I'm not mistaken, this will exclude one person from early entry since they won't have a resort ID, true?

Cheers

No one has ever checked my children's resort IDs. I don't even let them have theirs. :animwink:

I agree. Friends of mine have stayed at the Contemporary for their annual vacation for years, and they are a party of five (two adults and three teenagers).

Also, don't ahve your family parade around the check in desk and be ta the counter with you. Leave them outside, you secure the room, and then buy your tickets at the Park gate.

Or buyyour tickets at the Resort. Who are they to question you for who the fifth person is? And if they do, it's for a relative driving up from Miami.

The only downside is that someone will be down a room key. But that doesn't appear to be too horrible. And after all my trips, I was never asked to show Resort ID to use transportation or access Early Entry.

Anyone that has valid admission tickets is entitled to use the Disney transportation system. Also, we have stayed in on property resorts that don't participate in the early entry program, and we too have never been asked to show a resort ID at early entry.

Everyone was asked for room keys at early entry for Animal Kingdom on October 4, 2004.

I wouldn't be surprised if this rule is loosely enforced, however.

I think someone tipped WDW management off about this message board topic..............they are probably watching everything we say.... :lookaroun :hammer:

There are many times when that is a good thing. There are often people with legitimate complaints about their experiences in the parks. Deep down some of us hope that someone at Disney is noting our concerns about the lack of maintenance, the wasted spaces, shorter hours, bad food in restaurants, etc.

hey there!!!! Welcome to the boards!!! I as well would go with the idea of upgrading to the Port Orleans Riverside ( One of my personal favorites) for the 5th person. The Aligator Bayou side of the resort has a trundle bed for one of the kids and they can switch off as to who is going to get the "special" bed. For some pictures of the resort as well as said trundle bed check our friend Deb Wills' website at http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/g_dxl.htm
She has got some great information on all of the resorts!! Just look to your left hand side for a listing of all the resorts and the information within each!!! Hope this helps!!! Belle
