4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

Actually, no, many dogs will not. Dogs experience anxiety and loneliness and stress because they think they’ve been abandoned. You can reason with a child and explain things to them, or at least try to. Dogs don’t understand what’s happening to them.

With or without pet friendly rooms, there is always a chance of having a bad experience. No hotel can prevent that - ever.

When that happens, life is not over, contact your friendly front desk and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Yes, that reputation is held by everyone going by the moniker of ford91exploder.

No need. I can bring her to WDW.

The only difference from prior trips when we brought her, when she would stay at Best Friends Pet Care during the day and come back with us to sleep at a Red Roof or a La Quinta at night is she'll stay at Best Friends Pet Care during the day and come back with us to sleep at Port Orleans at night. Ta-da! And we'll be out an extra hundred to hundred-fifty bucks for the privilege.

Perhaps future incarnations of this deal would include day-care at BFPC (usually under $40) rather than that "puppy package" or whatever it was called, and everyone will be happier (except the grumpy, absolutist, no-dogs-ever, woe-is-me-I-have-allergies people.)

You just hit on one big point, and unintentionally, a second really crappy one. There is NO type of registration or entity that certifies service animals. There are all kinds of fake companies that do it, but you and I could open one tomorrow and just sell people certificates - it's not licensed or regulated whatsoever by the government. Any certification is a scam.

Just like everything ADA, they cannot ask for any documentation anyway. This is why it's such a terribly done law that allows such bullcrap abuse. And this is coming from someone who has a disabled member of my family, because it's absolute BS. Because monkeys are legal pets in Florida (at least Capuchins, which I am assuming it probably was - though it's doubtful it was an actual service animal unless she was paraplegic, the only people that get trained ones that can open bottles and pour drinks, etc.) they couldn't deny her. All it takes is "This is a service animal" and they can say or do nothing.

It's incredibly stupid, because ostensibly, the reason for the "no question asked" law is because of privacy issues. The thing is, no one who is legitimately disabled has any problem whatsoever with that documentation - they have miles of it. And it doesn't need to state your condition, just your needs. It's just why it's so widely abused, which both makes things more complicated for actually disabled people (like the whole Disney DAC drama) because companies have to minimize services because of all the horrible, ruthless fakers - and that it creates a crappy public atmosphere because of how people roll their eyes at things like "service animals" because the ADA is so incredibly abused.

That is the reason for that "proof of vaccinations, etc. on request" in that email people are getting. They can ask for that for a non-service animal, but once they say "service animal" - they can't ask for anything at all! For any proof of how stupid this law is worded, that is a prime example. The health of everyone at that resort is in possible danger because all someone has to do is say those two words and anyone can bring some diseased animal wherever they want.

Now, here is the other catch to this whole "dogs in the resorts" thing

So folks, expect a whole lot of dogs to suddenly show up at these four resorts once this all gets out. Because people won't be paying a cent because all they have to say is (say it with me, people) "Service Animal" and they can't charge them for it!

And trust me, the dog crazy people that drag them along on vacation already know this. They will pounce on this like no tomorrow. It's one of the most disgustingly abused parts of the ADA. Chances are 99% of the dogs you are going to see are going to be BS "service" animals from fakers who just think they are entitled to take their precious little fleabag everywhere - and they won't even be paying for it. Sickos.

Wow dramatic much? Dogs are almost everywhere in society and we are functioning just fine, except for the fearmongers and deathly allergic so chill with the doomsday talk. I have NO idea why WDW is taking this on but if there are issues I am sure they will cancel it. If for some reason you seriously think WDW is going to be literally overrun with diseased dogs biting people, ruining the resorts and taking over the parks then good news - your money and time is now free to go see the world outside of Disney!

If this doesn't work, its another sign of how badly WDW is running its resorts. It works at all sorts of other hotels, from La Quintas to Four Seasons and everywhere in between.

And again, if people want quiet and isolation, WDW is just an awful choice.

I ran that Red Roof and I can't thank you enough for boarding your dog at Best Friends during the day. It is just wrong to leave a dog in a strange place alone for 8 to 12 hrs a day. My highest praise to you!

I thought of you as soon as I saw the News on Twitter. Happy for you guys. This has worked well at Uni's Deluxe resorts for years.

We were on property for Irma at the Wilderness Lodge. Disney took in all sorts of Florida state people running from Irma and they took in their pets too this year. I'd say maybe 6 days I saw pets in our resort, before, during and after. The one rule was to not let dogs approach other guests in common areas of the resort building and the Pups could not go into the restaurants unless they were service animals. It worked well. We 'asked' if we could 'meet' many of the Pups staying with us at the Lodge. They were all the comfort Pups of Lodge during Irma 2 day lockdown. This trial is a lesser plan than the hurricane plan so if it work this well for the hurricane, the Pups now registered as paying guests I believe will work out just fine and guests like you that frequent WDW. Frequent might be an understatement.

It has been said that this was a relatively hasty decision on the part of WDW without a lengthy review process. The promotional material reflects that. It hurt my brain reading it. Here it is with some annotations and questions....

Is there a weight limit? Or is it "all dogs"?

@DisneyMann - the OP says that they will be on leashes. I don't think you have to worry about dogs running around and spontaneously attacking people. I think most dog owners know the temperament of their dogs.

I understand the leash thing but there are still plenty of owners who don't think anything of letting their dogs go to the end of the leash and it's 10-15 feet away. And there will be some who won't listen. This is WDW......way too many forget their brains at home....lol

Its not the dogs I don't trust, its people. I've seen plenty of guests breaking rules/ being inconsiderate, littering, skipping lines, climbing into off limit areas, smoking outside the smoking areas and much more. I have seen cast members see these things happen and do nothing. If the rooms remained to the same standard of hygiene and the rules listed were adhered to I don't think there would be a problem but I just can't see them enforcing any of these new rules when the current ones are being broken.
