Here in Winnipeg Canada - we pay 1.329 a liter. It takes 3.89 liters to make a US gallon - with the US/Canadian conversion thats $5.07 US a gallon. We're going to WDW to save money!

Well, if $4.00 gas is not making you all go down to WDW, then I am sorry to say that you will not likely get to WDW in the near future (at least 3 - 5 years). These current prices will seem cheap soon, and we are still a few years off from scaring the oil producing nations into lowering prices through creation of new technology and our own drilling.

I can tell you now, that if gas gets to 6-8 dollars a gallon I will not be going anywhere. That would mean I would spend over 1k per month on gas to commute and 6k a year to heat my house. In other words I will be in debt and wont be able to afford to go anywhere.

We were lucky and got our plane tickets thru my dads American Express points before they started raising prices, however we still have to pay for park tickets and with how costs are going up on everything we are really having to save to be able to get the tickets. Luckily my husband is Air Force reserve so we can get park tickets at a discount. We are using any kind of discount we can find. Our summer will be spent swimming at the in-laws house for free because we cannot afford to do anything else because every penny is going towards are October trip. If prices keep going up this will prob. be our last trip for awhile. I am also thinking of sending a box of snacks ahead of time to help save money on food. Anything to help.

I really feel sorry for the folks that have to drive a long way to get to work. We had one of our teachers at my child's school to quit this year because she was spending over $150. a week for gas to get to work. It's crazy now but it's only going to get worse because it looks like no one is doing anything about it. I'll never forget watching Bush on TV a couple of months ago when someone asked him what he thought about gas hitting 4.00 a gallon and he replied that he had not heard that. :hammer:

aside from being an insult, the price of gas isnt going to affect much, expecially my disney trips. i would get a third job before i would let that happen.

Oh in Europe we pay... $xxx per gallon.. right, with National Health care. because that's what the tax on gas goes to pay.

here we pay our own health care, or at least a partial amount, or some companies don't offer health care at all. ZERO..
no it doesnt!
we pay (those of us that work) pay national insurance, which is a compuslory contribution to the NHS and pension funds.
Most uk resident pay that and still go private because its quicker tahen waiting 6 years to have an operation.
the tax from fuel is supposed to go back into the road network, rebuilding tarmaccing etc.
any way slightly gone of thread here. obviosly if you live in the uk its gonna cost more to get to disney world, but now the price of fuel is so bad , alot of people wont be going anywhere!

All of the talk about governments not doing anything and oil comnpanies making record profits and should be taxed for doing so is ridiculous. The current status of oils stockpiles is higher now than it has been in many years and is still on the rise. There is one main reason that the price of oil is rising and that is the poor return on investment currently in stocks & bonds. Many investment companies have turned their investments over to commodities like oil, corn, wheat & gold. These products have shown steady increases and will continue to increase in price until we the people decide to invest in something else. The next big money maker will be investing in any GREEN companies like solar power or wind power. Once this happen the price of oil will drop.

Drilling in Alaska right now will most likely not lower the price of oil, but increase the benefits for the oil companies. At some point in the future this will have to be done, but our current state has lead people to finally conserve and hopefully will realize that they don't need Expeditions and Hummer H2's to transport 1 person and their cup of coffee to work 30 miles each way.

I want my drilling in ANWR! Thank you Mr. Gore.

The amount of crude oil in ANWR would only last a year at most. Most adjustments for ten or twelve years of supply are at a reduced output, where this supply would be integrated with foreign supply. If ANWR were our only source for oil, at the current rate of U.S. consumption, we would be lucky if it lasts 6 months. And if it is integrated with foreign supply to extend the its length of use, it wouldn't be enough to off-set current prices. So drilling there would be an expensive quick fix that ultimately would not change prices, but would irreperable harm to the environment...which is more important than your ability to take a cheap vacation.

It really stinks when the stupid gas prices keep you from doing things. It really hurt me driving to college everyday about 45 minutes this past semester, but it was still cheaper than living on campus. Next month we are going to florida for about two weeks, mostly at disney, and a few days at vero beach. We have the vacation club so that helps a lot with the hotel cost and we can also get the villas with the kitchen, but still driving all the way to florida from NJ is gona cost a lot, but still it is cheaper that flying. We wont be going back to disney for a long time so I really want to go on this trip and make the most out of it. In 2010 we might be going back to Disneyland, but we'll see. We were gonna eat at Ohana one night and maybe try Captain Jacks cause we love the food there, but it looks like we will be doing a lot of eating in out room. Vero Beach is gonna be a problem because we werent able to get the villas with the kitchen. We got the inn rooms, so we will have to either eat frozen microwavable food(gross, we've done that before) or have to find a cheap place somewhere in the area, and there really isnt anything in the area.

Do you think that the current price of gas, and other items, will affect the bookings at the Value resorts more than it affects the Moderates or particularly the Deluxe ones?

Any evidence that WDW is seeing a lack of strong bookings?

1.> Let's not get political. It is easy to point the blame at either political parties, but choices were made and we are forced to live with them.

2.> It is time for the world governments to get together and have a serious conversation on how to move on from our dependency on oil, otherwise later generations are going to find it near impossible to travel.

Nice thought, but unfortunately this will never happen!

I think you must be in a cheap part of the UK my friend. We've just had another price hike and reached £1.16 per litre for petrol and £1.26 for diesel. If I've done my calculations correctly, allowing for US rather than Imperial gallons, I think it works out around $8.50 a gallon - AND STILL RISING:mad:. We'll still save for our trips to WDW but may find our visits stretch from 2 year to 3 year intervals.

I live in Thornaby/Middlesbrough like an hour away from Scarbrough. We save for our trips as well but it takes us like 1-2 years to save up

But that's not the basis of the post. its a minimum of 3000 miles round trip. we are a four adult family. We need (my bold) a Suburban just to make the trip comfortable.

I don't mean this to sound like a slam, but you don't need a Suburban (huge SUV) for four adults to be comfortable. You choose a Suburban. I have traveled with 3 other adults for longer distances in smaller vehicles and been just as comfortable. You could choose a smaller vehicle for the trip, still be comfortable, and save money that way as well.

There are very few people who need large gas guzzling vehicles. It is again the me mentality in this country that "whatever I want I "get/need/deserve." I don't see gas prices going down until people as a whole can give up the large gas guzzling vehicles and start choosing smaller vehicles or  mass transit. (I use the eek b/c where I live most people wouldn't be caught dead using the city busses....and they wonder why gas is so expensive :brick:)

I Agree exactly with the above poster. You NEED your Suburban? Probably one of the biggest gas guzzlers out there, so theres your problem right there. I just did a calculation of what it would cost me at my cars EPA Rating to get from Near Toronto, where I live, to WDW. $178.42 CDN at the current gas prices. A Suburban would cost me $366.94 for the same trip. That's DOUBLE, what I'd be paying. And that's assuming, you adhere to the EPA Ratings, and get mileage THAT good. With Smarter Driving, I can turn my $178.42 Trip into an EASY $137.43 Each way, just by driving the speed limit, coasting to red lights, maintaining an even speed uphills, and letting gravity pull me down the other side etc...

People have to change their mentality. The old days of buying a Hummer, and flooring it all the time, are over. Get used to it, Fuel is NOT going down, its only going to get WORSE. Check out CleanMPG.com for all kinds of tips on how to drive smarter and save fuel.

Drive smarter, and maybe you'll be able to afford that trip, without killing the bank.

Unfortunately, we will never see prices under $3.00 again. With the profits the oil companies are making, it will take a measure from the federal government to stop the spiraling prices. But with the government in the pockets of the oil industry...good luck. I know that when we go to DW in december, we will be taking the buses everywhere and keeping the car parked. Might as well take advantage of it while we can...we have no public transportation to speak of in S. Florida. :(

I don't know where everyone is driving from, or whoever posted this message. But my logic is that if you can spend the money to go to WDW for a few days, then what is like the 75 bucks extra you are going to spend on gas when compared to the overall price. I mean sure, if you are driving from Idaho i understand, but if you are only in Georgia, Tennessee or wherever else that is relatively close, the high gas prices really only coist you MAYBE 100 bucks extra because of the difference. b/c if gas is 3 bucks, then 4 bucks later, you know, only a dollar difference. etc

anyway, you all probably know this, just ranting

Like I stated before it is not the price increase for the trip that is keeping us home it is that price increase every day of our lives. An extra $100 for a Disney trip is no big deal but the extra $400-$500 we are spending on fuel each month is a big deal.
