$4 a gallon, thats way cheaper than the UK.
for $4/£2(approx) we could get 2 litres(half a gallon) of petrol in our car.

Wow... still blows my mind how much fuel costs in Europe. Not as bad as that here (Atlantic Canada), but it's still like $1.339 a litre which is about 5.07 a gallon.

For us it is not the increase in gas prices involved in the trip to and from Disney that is preventing us from going it is the cumulative effect of that same increase in gas in our everyday lives. Between 2 cars (A Saturn SL2 and a Kia Sedona) we are going through around $200 +/- a week just to get back and forth from work. Compare this to the $80 +/- we were spending just a couple of yeas ago and it is easy to see why money has gotten tight and trips to WDW are now off the table.

I communte 14 miles a day one way to work, not even a bus comes to where I live and goes to where I work. It is all interstate driving, with the exception of a few miles of city streets. When I was in Europe 3 years ago the transportation system was extensive and I had many options to travel within a city and to another city on the public system (Italy and France). So, while I am grateful we don't pay that much (compared to England, etc...) I am also aware that we (Indianapolis) don't have the public transportion system you have either. I couldn't even take the train to Orlando if I wanted to. I would have to go to Chicago (about 150 miles north of me) just to get a train to go 1150 miles south (past Indianapolis, but no train stops here going south) to Orlando. When I went from Florence Italy to Rome I had the choice of 16 different departure times in one 24 hour period in which I traveled. I would LOVE to have that option but Americans are in love with their cars and we drive big cars, the bigger the better or so it seems. We have abandoned our rail system and have yet to develop a decent public transportation alternative.

To the OP, I am sorry your trip is out of the question this year. I had to cancel a trip to WDW last year (for health reasons) and I know how you feel.

In the grand scheme, the price of gas is not that big of the portion of the trip. I live about 1,000 miles from WDW. My Odyssey gets about 25 MPG on the road. That would take 40 gallons of gas to get there. That is only $160 for gas. Even if gas was $2 a gallon, it is only $80 more each way. It is stilll much cheaper that flying.

You've got that right. I just can't believe how much gas is now, but it is causing everything else to go up as well. Our grocery bill is outrageous and everything just keeps going up. I am just counting the days until Disney's prices jump too, on everything. I have to really plan & save for our trips so I am already looking at ways to save more.

If $4.00/Gallon breaks your bank, then you really need to rethink your priorities. Heading to Disney, probably wouldn't be a smart idea, if that makes you bankrupt. Geez, it's not like we didn't see this coming. Look at Europe.

Wow. You could have just said...let them eat cake. The OP did not say the gas prices would make them go bankrupt. Check your compassion meter, it is on empty.

In March, I traded my truck for a fuel efficient car. I am sooo glad I did that - I cut my gas prices in half, and then they went up a bit. I'm still saving money with the car, thankfully.

I the grand scheme of a big WDW trip, I don't think the gas prices would affect whether I went or not.

Since I live about 150 miles away and my car gets about 25 mpg, it's still manageable....but I think about how the higher gas prices eats into my souvenir money! :(

Gas prices don't have much of an effect on me. With respect to other necessities such as 1gal water or 1gal milk, gasoline is still very economical in this country. Especially considering the amount of transport and processing it requires.

I know for us, it makes it tough. We live over in Tampa and head out just a day at a time. (Hard to justify spending $200 to stay over when we can just drive home and sleep there, you know?) But where we used to put $20-25 in the tank for the 90-mile drive (one way), now...it's more like $40-50 in the tank. Tack on parking ($11) and lunch ($20 for the two of us) and maybe a drink or snack or two ($10) and suddenly it's not the cheapie day that it used to be.

It's a lot harder now to pop over there for us and I'm sure a lot of fellow Tampa Bay residents feel the crunch too. Especially since so many of us are stuck driving oddball and frustrating commutes to our jobs. (Love drives 25 miles one way to work each day after his company relocated their building.)

The culmination of higher gas, higher food costs and all around less-impact-per-dollar, yeah. We're definitely forced to think a lot closer about running out to Orlando these days. :(

Well, if $4.00 gas is not making you all go down to WDW, then I am sorry to say that you will not likely get to WDW in the near future (at least 3 - 5 years). These current prices will seem cheap soon, and we are still a few years off from scaring the oil producing nations into lowering prices through creation of new technology and our own drilling.

But isn't like 70% of that tax? Your fuel cost is similar but the tax is what jacks up the price.

Maybe Disney will see the wisdom off dropping the parking fees to at least make it more attractive for locals to drop in.

I hate to see what it will go up to if a hurricane hits the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah I could have said a lot of things. Guess I'm tired of people crying and saying "Oh poor me, Gas is 4 bucks a Gallon" Suck it up, or ride a bicycle. Its here to stay, does that mean you won't be going to WDW, ever again? Guaranteed I pay more for my gas, than you do in the US. So what am I doing about it? I'm driving smarter, and getting 40MPG in my AUTO COROLLA, and Laughing at all the clowns around me, racing to red lights, as I'm coasting along, saving fuel.

Drive smarter, and your fuel will go farther. Then maybe you can afford to go to WDW, again. Better yet, sell that Hummer and Buy an Echo!

No one said it would break the bank. For me to drive I would have to budget an extra $900 in gas so, yes, it would be a concern and would certainly affect whether I choose to take a trip every year.
