On my kids first trip to disney in february, my 6 year old got terrified at mickey's philharmagic while my then 3 year old had a ball! we will be going back this september (YEAH!). He still doesn't want to see any 3D shows. I went on youtube.com and showed him the show of it's tough to be a bug. i think that this helped him to see what was going on and for there not to be any surprises. he can't stand things jumping out at him, dinosaur was a no no too this past trip, we didn't even walk past it! when simba popped out on the screen during mickey's philharmagic is when he lost it. you would think that he was in serious pain the way he was crying. now on the other hand he rode tot, splash, btm, haunted mansion (with dad by his side telling him everything that was getting ready to happen and also making it fun). does anyone else have any suggestions on how to help him overcome his fear of 3D shows. i really enjoy them and so does dad! he loves watching ride videos on the internet, and wants to ride EE this time as long as his little sister grows enough to ride it with him! as long as she grows an inch by sept. she will ride, she is fearless (took after her mom!)

It's Tough to Be a Bug can be a little scarey for kids, even if they've seen it on Youtube. It's quite loud and there are a couple of places where the audience gets "involved" in the action. I'd skip that for now.
If you're really intent on him watching a 3D move, take him to the MuppetVision movie at the Studios. It's funny and quite tame.

one of my friends just came back and his 5 yr old girl didn't like the 3D movies....but once the glasses came off he said she loved it. I guess it was just the feeling of having everything in her face. But said she would do Philharmagic over and over, just not wear the 3D glasses. Maybe this would work for you.

Be sure to skip Honey, I shrunk the Audience. My little girl HATED it, and on our last trip she still would not got back to see it and she was 13 this time.

My 4 year old nephew got so scared in It's Tough to be a Bug that he would hardly ride anything else there. This is where I think that it helps if they kind of know what to expect before they go in. We learned that with him because his parents had no idea what the show was about.

If you get the book Unofficial Guide to WDW, it has all of the information about the rides and shows in it and it can help you decide what your child may or may not like. I love this book!

Our son didn't like the 3D movies either the first time he went (he was 4). We removed the glasses and it made a huge difference (we explained that it would look a little funny without the glasses, but he could see the movie without stuff jumping at him.) When we went in October (he was 7) he finally wanted to see the 3D movies with the glasses on. We also avoided It's Tough to Be a Bug and Honey...Audience. They both have scary elements. As stated above, start with the Muppets at MGM - that's the funniest and least scary of all of the movies. He might also feel brave enough this year to try Philharmagic again (without glasses). Let him move at his pace - worst case scenario, just let him sit there with his eyes closed. Maybe he'll get a little rest.

The Unofficial Guide is also a great suggestion - both the full guide and the guide to WDW with Kids are execellent resources.

Good luck!!

thanks everyone! i was thinking about letting them do the muppets before going to do it's tough to be a bug. but, our days are already mapped out, but not in stone. he took off his glasses at mickey's but was still scared, he knew it was still there. while watching on youtube it's tough to be a bug, he could tell when the audience was going to get involved, the smells, water, etc. was fun for him just the jumping out at him scared him. at this point he wants to attempt to do it's tough to be a bug. i did tell him he could take off his glasses but then he tells me he can't see it very well! i hope he will do fine, the trip is about them not me and dad, so whatever they want they usually get (just don't tell them that!)

I'm 22 and the spiders that come down from the ceiling freaked me out in Tough to be a Bug.
I hate spiders =\

MuppetVision is my favorite, but I'm a bit biased because I'm a huge Muppet fan.

Skip HISTA. The "mice" running over your feet gave me the heebie jeebies at the tender age of 21. :o :lookaroun

Then again, if he's only 6, maybe his feet don't touch the floor yet.

spiders that come down from the ceiling, oh my, i have a bigger problem now! my 35 year old truck driving large statured hubby is terrified of spiders! i am talking about screaming like a girl if he sees a spider, well this should be interesting! i might just have to keep this a secret from him and see how he reacts!
