I just don't understand why they have Pixar Fest. If this was 2007 when Pixar was at its A-game, I would understand, but of the last 10 releases, only Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2 have turned huge profits, neither of which are well regarded after the fact. Of their last 10 releases, only Coco is loved unanimously by the population like the early Pixar movies were. Generally speaking, Pixar name does not carry the same weight it once did so it's weird to me that Disney is acting like Pixar Fest will drive ticket sales.
You're overthinking it.

I have to imagine the strength of the Toy Story brand as well as a few other properties is enough to carry it.

There's enough Pixar merchandise that I can imagine them coasting off of their 2000's run is enough for an event like this.

Because they've got nothing else. The well is dry.

And even if Josh D'Amaro goes on stage this August at D23 Expo and announces a half dozen new attractions and lands coming to Anaheim, the first one wouldn't and couldn't open until Christmas 2027 at the earliest. Probably a phased opening schedule through 2031 or 2033, if we're honest.

So instead, they're doing stuff like Pixar Fest. With lightpole banners and Instagrammable food. You are immersed.

Star Wars and Marvel can also be added to the list of brands on decline, but Disney will continue to push them cause they paid a lot of money for them.

The festivals are probably done to "increase brand engagement" for their failing brands.

What's especially lame about Season of the Force and Pixarfest is that these are old events from 2016 and 2018. The 2016 Season of the Force at least had Star Wars music and new banners in Tomorowland, this is just the same land but they sell some specialty foods.

The Plaza De La Familia thing may be one of the most overhyped Disney attractions, they give it full billboards and TV ads and its just a small corner of DCA that sometimes has a puppet show. Now its listed as a seasonal event with the likes of Christmas and Halloween?

So they can fly Buzz Lightyear and the Up house for the mid Pixar show, but they can't fly Baymax or the Blue Fairy for the God Tier show when it's not 2023?

And the reasons to hate on Pixar Fest keep coming!
DL replaced Tink with more Pyro for RDCT 2018 so, it didn't look awful.

Did TF's Finale have to get redone???? I much prefer Friend Like Me 2018!!!! Let's hope DCA's new Parade and most Importantly F! 2024 are Hits!!!!!!!!

Oh no! Even @mickEblu's been won over to the PF dark side!

I can't speak for the finale specifically, but Together Forever as a collective whole needed work. I haven't seen the videos of the preview yet (I hopefully will never see Pixar Fest in person ever again), so I can't speak for whether or not that work will prove effective yet, or if the new incarnation is an improvement or a buzzill, but for my tastes (and as I recall, many others), 2018 TF wasn't it. Even my friend who unironically loved Pixar Fest, Pixar Pier, etc. didn't enjoy that fireworks show. At the very least, I imagine TF 2.0 will benefit from being a minute longer.

Disney in general has killed my love of Toy Story, and with that they've killed any desire I have to ever hear "You've Got a Friend in Me" in anything ever again, but I'm sure that's a minority opinion.

With both parks littered with permanent Pixar attractions and shows, what exactly does "Pixar Fest" offer that incentivizes a visit to Disneyland now more than any other reason?

Is it just food? If so, then why not a larger Food and Wine Festival? Why does junk food need IP too?

Disneyland makes a big deal of Halloween and Christmas and then struggles the rest of the year to come up with dubious promotions that probably do nothing to boost attendance. I don't know why they bother, other than to give the events team something to do. At least for other holidays like Valentines, Easter and 4th of July, it would make a little more sense.

We've had almost 20 years of "Year of a Million Dreams" type "celebrations" that clutter the parks with junk and add little to no value to the overall experience. How about a year where we just let Disneyland be Disneyland for once?

I actively cancelled a planned summer trip in part because of Pixar Fest.

It did absolutely nothing to improve the park experience (other than a few nice food items that certainly could have existed independently of the cringe of everything else) the first time around; I'd go so far as to say it actively worked against many of the things I like about Disneyland.

But the execs are clueless, the locals are bored, and we now have an audience of people who mistake recognizing their favorite IP with quality, so festivals like PF are probably here to stay.

It's also frustrating because "Pixar" on its own, means nothing.

It is not a brand or a franchise. It's a movie studio that produces properties that become film franchises on their own, but Pixar itself is just a collection of offices and computers in Southern California.

During the 2000s, the name "Pixar" had a lot of good will, as the company was enjoying an unprecedented level of critical and box office success that was unheard of...but that's no longer the case. And even then, despite Disney's efforts, Pixar never had any branding or imagery specific to its name independent of the movies...Luxo lamps and balls are no mouse ears. Even the logo is pretty basic, and they certainly didn't invent the primary colours.

As someone who remembers when Pixar was not a household name and had hardly made many movies, the post-acquisition obsession with slapping it everywhere in the most tacky ways has been cringe more than anything else.

Lol no Spring is my favorite time of year at Disneyland… or at least it used to be. Wish they would stop with their incessant need to make every season a “season.” Spring used to be a break from that. It was Default/ Classic Disneyland. I suppose it’s still better than pumpkins in 100 degrees and the crowds Christmas brings. Summer is too hot. Hard to beat the weather in Spring but now the price we pay is tacky Pixar decor.

Another silly, petty reason I'm feeling personally victimized by Pixar Fest? It begins on April 26th.

My birthday.

I can't think of a worst birthday gift I've ever received than having my favorite theme park ruined in the name of a particularly terrible example of brand/IP shilling.

Lol now you might be starting to understand why I feel personally victimized when they remove your favorite ride from Disneyland and DCA in just a few short years. Then your first day back as a MK holder after a 6 month break they put up walls and hack down the trees at Magnolia Park.

Just watched the video of TF 2.0. Seems mostly the same, except they actually removed a Cars segment(!) and added in newer characters. Turning Red in particular is very present in the newer show. A few minor tweaks. It seemed slightly better, but looks as though it would still be my worst DL fireworks show.

Pixar Fest was so forgettable. I barely remember that it had a firework show. I remember being bored and the Coco segment being a highlight. I’m all little intrigued by what they re doing in the backlot at one of the soundstages. Some sort of Cars IP Drive In Movie set up? Hoping that somehow turns into them bringing a Cars Themed Sci Fi Dine restaurant to Cars Land… if they still have anywhere to put it it. Something like this at DLR would print money.
