2018 - Big Year

If I'm not mistaken, 2018 will be a BIG year for Walt Disney World.

There would speculatively be:
  • 3 new lands - Avatar, Cars, Star Wars
  • Massive Downtown Disney Redo - Disney Springs
  • Six New Rides - Cars Dark Ride, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Flights of Passage (Avatar E-Ticket), Avatar Boat Ride, Star Wars Speeder Bike Coaster, Star Wars X-Wing Spinner

Would this be the biggest year in Walt Disney World resort?

This is all built upon the current rumors and speculation.

I hope this stuff comes to fruition, but wow, 2018? I guess it just kind of hit me how far off that is. With the way Disney likes to delay construction so they have stuff to market every year, I doubt we'll see Avatar and the DHS stuff open in the same year, much less SW and Cars.
Exactly. It would be smart for them to do one grand reveal but that's not how they roll.

It's been suggested that Star Wars would be fast-tracked and presumably ready in a shorter time frame than other projects. I'm thinking around 2016.
I would imagine that depends on how much they wish to invest in our Star Wars project. Will they go the cheaper route and get it open soon (but leave very little impression on folks) or the more expensive route and build some impressive new rides?

I don't think those are mutually exclusive. They could fast track construction and have something impressive done for 2016. That's still plenty of time, if Disney wanted to make the investment.

As 2013 treks on without excavators arriving, that possibility becomes increasingly remote, though still possible (I guess).

Look while I understand that 2018 is 5 years away, I see this as positive.
When was the last time Disney did such a big overhaul of its parks?

I can see Star Wars being fast tracked because of the new movie coming up...all in all, Disney will be a much cooler place in 2018...just wonder if it would open for the Peak Season or would be late 2018.

Far too soon to know that.

And yes, of course, it's good news. If it all comes to fruition.
