It has been on the cards for the last couple of years, and Disney has now finally announced the end of the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

2015 will be the final year for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

Big question now, is what will Walt Disney World being in as its major holiday draw?

A lot of holiday entertainment has been lost over the years, such as Lights of Winter at Epcot, 'Twas stage show at Magic Kingdom, Country Bear Christmas at Magic Kingdom.

Those losses were always offset by the grand scale of the Osborne Lights at the Studios. With those also leaving this year, it creates a huge hole in the line-up, which seems that it will force Disney to do something new for 2016.

Thoughts?

For me, a new version of Lights of Winter at Epcot would be the answer - but it would need to seriously raise the bar.

Some sort of holiday light display, to me, is the clear choice. They are popular around America and Disney can obviously do it on a grand scale. It just has to be a new build designed around its home--as you said, they can't just plop Osborne down and call it a day. Maybe something with the Celebrate the Magic tech that they developed. This could be very impressive and wouldn't require ugly wires out for months on end.

I am guessing DHS is getting a Christmas Fireworks show next year or a Christmas Stage show.

My guess is one of those 2 things is due to Firework shouldn't be affecting the construction and DHS Flex Theater would be ready to do such events.

I agree, they SHOULD replace this show with something even better! Upgraded light show please - no projections.
There have been so many cuts to the holiday festivities and decorations over the years in addition to what you listed. How about the red and green lights striping down the side of The Contemporary?
If they intended to replace the show, why not announce the replacement now? It would make this news easier to take if it came with the announcement of a new show for next year. It's not like we haven't known they were leaving for the last several years. This wasn't a last minute decision.

They should relocate it elsewhere on property, or at least as you said update it to something really special or replace it with an amazing new holiday show. That's what they should do, bad feeling of reality is it's probably not getting relocated or replaced with anything

Wasn't there a rumor that the Osborne lights might be moved to Disney Springs Town Center?
Not a credible rumor. Disney doesn't want to put holes and mounting hardware all over their brand new buildings, and have 6 months each year of them being installed/removed. Never mind the operational issues that would come from it. Disney Springs is about shopping and dining, it isn't setup for a theme park show experience.

I believe if there was any possibility of the existing lights returning in an alternate location, we would have heard it today. The Osborne Lights will end permanently at the end of this season.
