Why do they park cars on the grass at Epcot?

To give as much capacity incase DHS, AK, or MKs lots or park close.

The last time I was there for Christmas, there was only MK and Epcot. They were parking cars on World Drive.

Merry Christmas from the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights:

Crowds were noticeably larger at DHS than they were at DAK or Epcot earlier in the day. Still, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to walk through Osborne after 7:30 pm with little difficulty.

Magic Kingdom is currently at Phase A status this Christmas morning

MK parking full. Correction: The signs say "MK Full. Follow purple signs to other parks"

At 10:40 DHS was easy to get into via the north entrance. Still plenty of parking available.

At 11:40 all toll lanes at AK were open with only a 2 or 3 car backup in each lane. Lots of parking left.

Leaving Magic Kingdom now and the car line to get into Magic Kingdom is backed up all the way to the Epcot Center Drive overpass.

For more capacity. It is often the cast members that are directed to the secondary parking.
