I’m a little concerned that 2013 could be a bad year for Disney World and a bad year to visit. If rumors come to fruition could we be looking at a massive construction zone?
Fantasyland will be almost complete with the biggest new attraction still not complete until 2014. The expansion will be beautiful once complete and have a few new attractions but will not add much to a touring day at the Magic Kingdom. There will be a new M&G and a new ride (LM). Dumbo and the Goofy rollercoaster are not new just re-themed. I’m still not expecting there to be much of a wait for the Little Mermaid (only based on Disneyland). And the restaurant while much needed does not add time to a family’s touring day as they would just eat somewhere else if it wasn’t there. And, the expansion at that point may be a bit of an eye sore with a pit of construction in the middle of it. The Magic Kingdom Park seems like it will still be a one day park, it’s fun to repeat a lot of the rides there so we could call it a two day park.
If rumors of Avatar hold true we could see construction start early 2013. I won’t hold my breath. If it works out though, Festival of the Lion King and Camp Minnie-Mickey may close. I like Festival of the Lion King and it takes up about an hour of my day at this Park. The park is easy to complete in a day and some people call it a half day park. Take another hour out if my day and I would have to call it one too.
Hollywood Studios is also arguable a half day park. I typically do the back lot tour and lights motor action when I go which probably takes 1.5 hours out of my day. If rumors hold true that something is coming to replace these (I hope they do) and if construction starts in early 2013 (Skeptical), this park could become very easy a half day park. I like to visit this park for a half day in the morning and then come back for another half day in the evening. So, I’ll still call it a full day park.
Epcot is a tough one; a lot of attractions are just not what they use to be. Epcot to me is more about dinning and shopping and it’s hard to keep my kids interested for a lot of it. While I appreciate it more as an adult now, I know my kids would rather be at the Magic Kingdom. I’ll still call it a one day park.
Downtown Disney, I do not have much to say… it’s a little disappointing right now
So, I’m up to about 4.5 days of fun on a 9 day vacation. Of course with that amount of time we can take things slow, really look around and it’s always fun to repeat things. Park Hopper with the parks in this kind of condition will be a must. But, really can WDW consider raising the ticket price because they are almost done with Fantasyland but creating a construction zone in the other parks. A family’s first visit, could it be disappointing? I say during this time of expansion (If it turns out to be that way), they should be lowering prices and offering deep discounts as well as really promoting other things at the resorts like boating.
Reading these boards and hearing of everything that may be coming is exciting but it takes time to complete these mega additions, do you think they’ll do them all at the same time? Closing attractions in parks that some would consider half day parks already, is that a good idea? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I may have to consider leaving property for a couple of my nine days this summer of 2013 and enjoy some other parks in the area.
