WOW thats a fantastic image of the complex! Does any one know if the dock and lagoon off stage are still there? have any CM's seen this lately? I still would love to see that building or maybe just the repair lagoon off stage. that stuff facinates me. I've got a closer look at the sub graveyard (from eye level) if you hav'nt seen it.

Everything is still there. I talked to a friend's father who is an imagineer but used to work at 20k. He said he would take me a tour on the show building but that after so many years of dissuse and improper ventilation the place is contaminated with highly toxic chlorine gasses and others.

space

It still amazes me all that prime acreage right in the middle of the park, and its so poorly utilized. There must be something holding them back besides money.

Maybe there is a bigger problem.

the bottom of the lagoon is on the same level as the utilidors, so if they build like a coaster there - they must be careful, during construction they could flood the whole utilidor complex. it will cost a lot of money to build - because of all the added risks.

Whats the problem?

I don't see a real problem in draining the lagoon...they probably have the ability to anyway for insuance reasons (The tank at the living seas must drain completely within 2 minutes for the same reason)....they'd probably fill the lagoon with something or make it part of the queue for a new attraction anyway

I was at the MGM Studios during Thanksgiving and a CM at Walt Disney One Man's Dream told me that the submarine voyage was shut down because of a law that all rides (or something) had to be wheel chair accessible. He said that there was absolutely no way to make the subs accessible.

Of course, a year before I was told this, a CM at the Magic Kingdom charecter meet and greet that takes place where the submarine dock used to be told me that it was shut down because a company that manufactures certain parts for the submarines had gone bankrupt. I seem to remember that she also said that the part was made ONLY by that company.

(I believe the story above!)

why

The law you mentioned in the ADA "Americans with Dissabilities Act", we deal with it quite often in my busness, (Architecture). So the first story is most likely true, I too heard that from a CM. The second story is most unbelievable, remember the monorail mark IV manufacturer went out of business before the they went to the mark VIs, the machine shop had to manufacture many parts for those. Also I'm sure the ferries and older ride vehicles are pretty much custom. So I doubt there is much they could not just manufacture or replace with a new vehicle. I still think that any costs incurred in replacing the ride would be offset with rising attendance or more "plush" sales from whatever theme they choose.

The story about the wheelchairs is FALSE. I'm assuming that 20k was fasthioned after Sub Voyage in DL. Those are 100% Accessable. Trust me, i've seen pics, and have the training guides....The second story sounds almost true...but why would an entire attraction CLOSE because of a part that couldn't be replaced? I'm sure Disney could make one or two "just in case"

Americans With Disablilites Act didn't pretail to past projects. That's why they wanted to keep Horizons, they didn't have to make it wheelchair accessable. That dosn't sound right.

the floor and sidewalls of the 20k lagoon are eroding and falling apart from years of slack maintenance. If the lagoon were to be drained, the sidewalls would collapse (the water supports them) causing a major collapse into the tunnel (mainly to the locker rooms, costuming, and cash control). If they were to put ride vehicles back in, the ground would collapse into the tunnel, flooding it. Honestly, I don't foresee anything being done w/ this area, and any repair would more than likely mean closing off the entire back half of MK that is above the tunnel.

this is what I've been told by Fantasyland Management, and Maintenance Management, which I 've confirmed through my neighbors which are Imagineers.

Also, to add evidence to this, last year, the character festival had to be closed for approx 10 days because a rock collapsed into the tunnel and caused flooding in the female locker room.

Horizons WAS wheelchair accessable....tell me where there were steps or anything? There was even a handicapped entrance to the left.

If they use commercial divers to reinforce the sides of the lagoon, then they could easily drain it...and, i doubt it supports the sidewalk, as the ride never went under it.

i never said sidewalk. I said sideWALL. the walls on the side of the pool. They already have sent commercial divers in.. repeatedly. Every time that one touched the walls, they would crumble. This is one of the few things I know a lot about, so don't question it.

I read something about Horizons too.... I think it had to do with the vechicals and how they loaded... but Im not sure.

Anyways.... ADA only works on new projects and huge upgrades to current projects. So as long as they didnt make any major changes (ie new subs) ADA wouldn't affect them.
