Ummm... maybe because the subs at DL are different than the subs in WDW. Why is my research suspect? Because you disagree with it? :shrug: I've noticed that A LOT in your other posts....
I didn't say that I had any research regarding a new ride. Please re-read my post. The new ride comments were agreeing that it would be a great addition to WDW.....

they will need Kirk Douglas...
if they are making this movie, they need Kirk Douglas as the narrator to tell the story of Nemo.. and then He can sing "a Whale of a tale" again.. it would be a great intro voice and and out take voice over that would connect the two movies.

I would love to see TDS's version come to WDW. It really is a great dark ride. It has an AMAZING queue, great story, narrative, and the way the ride changes elevation makes you feel like you are going on some deep sea adventure. The scenery is amazing how it flows and makes you feel like you are underwater. I wonder if that is the illusion they will use for the new Mermaid ride? There is even an interactive element with a joystick that controls a beam of light you can use to point at things to illuminate them. This was one my less anticipated rides going to TDS after reading reviews on the internet, but turned out to be one of my favorites.

Incidentally... The "first hand account" of snorkeling over the sub they sunk at Castaway Cay is mine.
Though it's not there anymore.

I agree the ride was entertaining... But the weird storyline and the fact that it really had nothing to do with the 20,000 leagues we all know was kinda weird. Almost like they only called the ride that because they had to since there was a Nautilus parked out front. :shrug:
Great ride though, I agree.

I am 34 and grew up going on 20K at MK, but I don't really remember the story of the ride or even the movie. I guess that's why I wasn't scratching my head at TDS. :lol:

I am truly sad for you, honestly, the 20,000 ride was different and one of a kind. I loved it, and I miss it VERY VERY much. I wont even go near Poohs thoughtful spot, its like a slap in the face.

You know Wilt I have to give you huge props for this ---I never thought of it in this way, but that's a insightful and accurate observation!!!
I know they'll never undertake this project again in the MK, (wasn't it operational costs that led to it's demise in the first place) but man I have to say that 20K (with it's musty smell and cartoon like AA) was some of my fondest memories of my childhood visits to the park as well as the Skyway. To not be able to share those memories with my kids is truly dissapointing.

The thing that I really liked about this ride was the ambition it took to make it. Nothing on such a grand a scale has been built since its closure. Granted, eventually it did succumb to its problems, but the fact that it was able to overcome them for 23 years is a feat. The concept of this ride is so difficult to comprehend how to implement that the fact that they did it at all is testament to how awesome this ride was.
A lot of new rides these days take the easy way out, either with filmed content, "motion simulation", etc. 20K actually did a amazing job of replicating the subject matter, quite literally. You were in a submarine, you believed you were going underwater. Not many things have matched the scale of this ride since. How many rides today have individual ride vehicles that are powered by their own diesel engines?
Yes, it smelled like chlorine water, it had a really long line, and if it broke down (which, given the one time I had the chance to ride it, luckily didn't happen) you would be screwed, but the accomplishments of this ride far outweigh the difficulties in my opinion. For something so ambitious a few problems are bound to happen. The fact that they knew such issues would exist and yet they still built it only adds to it's awesomeness.
I don't think we will see one for a while, because I don't think anyone upstairs would be able to take such a leap that it requires to build a ride of this scale. I don't think it would be impossible however, and I have even pictured in my mind how they would get around the major issues, like the engines and the accessibility (a side entrance hatch is what I am imagining, where someone could enter at floor level).
Either way, I don't think anybody would be able to take the leap to make this, not now anyway. I do wish if they added a 5th park to WDW it would be Sea-centric, with this being a headline ride, but only in my dreams I guess....

So, it has been "announced" that 20,000 Leaques Under the Sea "prequel" is a big budget "tent pole" project which means a summer or Christmas Disney release. Sounds like a franchise in the making and a confirmation of the 20K ride system returning to WDW rumor.
I can't say I'd be too excited about a prequel or sequel. Unless they use material from In Search of the Castaways and The Mysterious Island(which doesn't seem the case) as the story, I'd much rather not see any screenwriters try to create a prequel out of thin air to one of the greatest sci-fi/fantasy novels of all time.
Even if a ride does come to fruition, I'll be surprised if it happens in the next ten years. Just based on the time frame of movie treatment/movie production/movie (non)success/blue sky/greenlight/construction/opening.
But even with all my pessimism, BRING ON A NEW 20K RIDE!!! :sohappy:
