2 year old sleeping in a hotel room

We're planning a trip to WDW for 12/08, our son will be 2 1/2 at that time. He's tall for his age, but still sleeps in a large crib. We've been trying to segway into a toddler bed, but he's a roller, keeps falling out. We're wondering where to put him to sleep in the hotel room. I know about bed rails, not so sure they'll work for him or be easy to bring with us. The cribs at the resorts are a bit smallish, afraid he won't fit comfortably. Any suggestions?

My DS slept happily in a Play 'n Go collapsible playpen when we travelled when he was too big for a crib.

When my son was at that stage - just a bit too big for a pack and play, but not quite ready for the bed, he just slept with us. The problem was, like your little one, he was a mover. My husband could sleep through anything, but I am not too keen about little feet in my face in the middle of the night, or small elbows in places they shouldn't be. Even now at 4, he isn't too comfortable with sleeping alone in a hotel bed, so one of us usually lay with him till he falls asleep (just while away, not at home).

I have a 2 1/2 year odl daughter and when we go, we usually just have her lay with us, or we put couch cushins and or pillos around her on the floor. BUt surprisingly she never fell off. By the way we just segwayed into a twin size bed for my daughter. So I am thinking this Nov/Dec trip she will be fine.

You could put him down on the floor. We used tp build little forts my daughter sometimes. We used suitcases for walls and a blanket for the roof, and a sleeping bag to sleep in. She loved it.

I have a tall daughter as well. She is 2 1/2 and I have her in a twin bed. I bought those swimming noodles. You know, those foam, long, round, flexi, soft pool toys. I bought one of those cut it in half and i tuck it under her sheets and matress cover. When I put her to bed I scoot the noodles close to her and she doesn't roll out, because the noodles keep her in the boundries of the bed.
I hope this helps.

I have 2 1/2 year old that is in the 95th percentile for height and sleeps like a clock (around in circles). Now granted she has been in a bed for close to a year now, but I would suggest a bedrail. You can request bedrails at the Disney resorts so you don't need to bring one.

Such a smart idea:sohappy:! Wish I would've thought of that 4 years ago! We used to push the chairs next to the bed. You can always go to target and buy a rail for $15..cheaper than renting one :):). Sometimes, if DS is tired enough (Disney has a tendency to do that) he doesn't even move:lol:

We bought a toddler c-o-t (don't know why it's editing the word out if I don't add the hyphens) for our daughter and she slept on that on our last trip (she was 2 1/2). That worked great and fit perfectly between the wall and the TV/dresser.

This reminds me of when we went to Austria when my daughter was 9 months. There was a spare bed in the room, but she was too little to sleep there. They gave us a c.o.t, but there were huge gaps between the bars, and she could crawl out. In the end, we took the quilt off the spare bed, put it in the suitcase on the floor, and she slept in there!

We have twin girls who are 5. We usually push one of the beds against wall and the other we put pillows down the side and also a put 2 chairs near the bed (the back - sort of acts like a wall). It keeps them in and we have never had a "roller" yet

Thank you for all of the great ideas! I feel much better knowing that I have so many options for keeping my little cyclone contained.

Were are you staying? Different resorts have different accommodations. I think most can get you a pack n play. We have DVC and there is one in each room, but we had no problem getting one in non DVC resorts in the past too.

Mod and deluxe resorts will have more room for a pac in play or space for the child to sleep on the floor (blow up mattress.) My kids have one that is a sleeping bed and we have done that before when she outgrew the pack and play.

PORS has trundle beds, a twin that pulls out from under the bed. It can be used for the child, or pulled out so if they roll our it breaks their fall (we did this once. For a while (sometimes I still do my 7 year old can roll) we put extra pillows on the floor to break her fall. Now she mostly just roles on her sister. :hammer:

Some deluxes have day beds in the room too.

I belive all resorts will provide the bed rails if you want them. I like the noodle idea, but if you are flying and don't have a car, getting them there is a bit of an issue.

If you go with the pac and play, we always added extra blankets for her to sleep on (when she was older) to make it softer. They have some in the room.

You never know, by then he might be doing better. Kids grow so darn fast. My oldest DD liked sleeping in the pack in play until she was well over 3 years old. She was a tiny kid. We had to kick her out when her little sister needed it.

You don't have to rent them. The bed rails are provided FREE at your request, and I'm told are even set up for you in your room.

Every toddler bed I've seen has come with built-in rails or high sides. So if your toddler is able to roll up and over these sides, then the rails that WDW provides may not be high enough, and neither will be the $15 ones from Target. Just my 2 cents.

My DD slept in the pack-n-play once there. Other two trips 22mos and 30 mos - she slept in bed. I slept with her both times. We requested railings both times - the one time they were so small that you probably needed 3 of them on one side. Last April they were a bit bigger - so the two fit the entire one side. I slept on the other side - but she still managed to roll over on top of me and off. She was fine but it was scary.

One other thing I did was take all the suitcases and put them in between the side of the bed and the wall by the bathroom (Value resorts) as an added "barrier".

Mine were never "set up" for me in the values.

We have a 2 1/2 year old who is a mover..She is still in her crib, but it has no side on it, just the rail..she has been like that for almost a year now because she has been big for age and has has no problem climbing out of it..She has been to WDW yet (that will be next sept.), but we do travel alot with her.. We have used the blow up air mattress with a sleeping bag attached to it so she can't roll off the mattress or slide the sleeping bag off of it..works great !!!! They fold up pretty compact the only problem is you may be huffing and puffing alot to get it blown up when you get there..we haven't used it flying yet so we have been able to take a little air pump with us..hope that helps..good luck !!!!
