So now that we've spent a few days working on the project, I think the surrounding park is starting to take shape. Harbortown USA is coming along spectacularly, although I've been noticing it's getting a bit of a "darker" vibe. The myths and legends surrounding New England are getting some proper representation.

That's not to call the land scary, but more "mature" than most Disneyland entrances. Whereas most Disneylands open with a nostalgic look at Old Americana, this park opens with a nuanced land of both positives (a thriving trade town) and negatives (haunted by wayward wickies and headless horsemen). It's much closer to the general vibe of DisneySea, a park with an elaborate backstory and significance to every feature, than Disneyland. I think that might help us when it comes to developing a park mission statement.

In short, I think our park's mission statement should be something along the lines of building a traditional "Disneyland" in the style of DisneySea, with a slightly more mature audience in mind. Families would still enjoy the park with classic dark rides and characters, but there would be more thrilling/scary rides than usual as well as an underlying backstory for the park connecting the lands together. I think this is a really cool mission statement because it allows us to do something a bit different from the "it's a park about optimism" that most Armchair Imagineering Disneylands have.

Thoughts?

I agree. Making the park just a tad bit mature than the average every day Disneyland, it'll let us play around more with Nuance and to dig a little more into the storytelling. Say, if we do a Jungle Cruise, while we'd still have the corny jokes, we could also take it a little darker with a curse in the temple or legends of an entity in the jungle. We could do a Space Mountain with more of a storyline. Of course, Snow White and Peter Pan could still have rides, but we could also dive a little deeper into what makes those films so great rather than just the bright colors and fun songs.

I support this 100%

I'm getting that vibe as well - in addition with the 'Port' and 'Voyage' name suggestions for the Castle Hub, as well as the boat transportation in addition to the entrance land being a harbor, this is sort of feeling like a Magic Kingdom version of DisneySea.

Personally I'm fine with that if this is the direction we want - it's something I've never seen done before to a MK-style park, and would grant the opportunity for new versions of Frontierland, Tomorrowland, etc revolving around water/coasts.

Also since this is due Wednesday at 12am (little over 48 hours from now) some of the content is starting to come in, but to save the hassle of having to go back and search through threads Tuesday night to post stuff to the website, would it be possible for folks to add their content to the site in our PM straight away? That'll save us time posting to 2 places or posting then having to go back and find it

I’ll be sure to put the Mariner’s Retreat in when I’ve finished the write-up.

Oh shoot, I thought we had until the end of Wednesday. So, 72 hours haha. I misread that lol. It's good that you said this or else I would've been doing a lot of last minute stuff

I had asked before but it would be good to get confirmation from @mickeyfan5534 and @TheOriginalTiki if Wednesday at 12am in the prompt is literal (meaning essentially a Tuesday night submission) or if they're referring to a Wednesday night submission.

Yeah, I always prefer leaving the deadline Tuesday, 11:59 just to clarify things. I also thought we had three days (although at this rate we're set to finish on time)

This prompt for example from Season 18 had the 11:59pm EST due date

Maybe S.I.R is just trying to mess with the houseguests :p
Season 18, Project Eleven: Shifting Lanes
n64_milos_astro_lanes_p_d8xkm0.jpg

This is a very straightforward project. Team Prospero must design a state of the art themed bowling alley based on a single IP. Please feel free to include all the fixings like dining options, an arcade, a bar, and things of that nature. The focus should remain mostly on the bowling alley itself and the challenge of how to theme a game that's so simple and straightforward. Six of you remain, and only FIVE will go to the semi-finals. @Outbound, @JokersWild, @NigelChanning09, and @goofyyukyukyuk17 are all eligible to become Project Leader this round. If @Outbound becomes project leader, his secret power/ability to save someone will become mute. Good luck team, this project is due Sunday, August 9th at 11:59PM Eastern.

Alright team, so all kidding aside about the time - while I think we would have been fine Tuesday night, having it due Wednesday I think is much easier to navigate with today being back to school/work for most.

I'm thinking we take a less is more approach to the writing. We're going to have a lot of small shops and knick-knack items given it's an entrance land - but if you're assigned to those locations I wouldn't worry about writing too much. I think @DashHaber did a good job for example with the First Aid/Town Hall - just a couple sentences and we're done.

Same with some of the shops and restaurants, unless it's a particularly special shop, just a couple sentences will do. Let's put the focus more on the Minecraft artwork, the Castle artwork, and navigating the site itself - with most of the written content focused on the attractions/parade.

That sound good?

Hey team, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.

The good news is I’m almost done the writeup for the Haunted Lighthouse, and I’m also going to have some more free time soon!

That leads into the bad news. I found out today the zoo I work at is closing and we’re all being laid off. Because of this, today and tomorrow especially I’m going to be less active while I try to figure things out. I’ll still get my stuff done though, and I have no intention of dropping out, I need this more than ever!
