Sidenote, new video! Gonna start doing these shorter vids on ore common topics in between my longer videos

Beastly Kingdom has always been one of the greatest "What Could Have Been" moments in the park's history for me. Frankly, when you think about it, the park is missing some nuance that BK could have added and would really help double down on the "Humankind and Nature's Interaction" themes present in the park. You have Humankind protecting Nature in Africa, Humankind's spiritual connection to Nature in Asia, Humankind's discovery of Nature in Dinoland, but nothing to really demonstrate how Humankind has been inspired by Nature like BK would.
Beastly Kingdom was the perfect bow that would put AK on the level of DisneySea and as good as Pandora is, it doesn't have anything on what was planned for BK.

It’s time for Ace’s hot take:

Everyone is obsessed with the idea of Beastly Kingdom but it’d have about half the number of fans it has now of it was actually built.

You have to remember what was going on with AK at the time. It was so over budget that even with picking Dinosaur it got hit with an insane amount of budget cuts (no coaster, using Indy ride system to save on R&D, a fossil museum) that even if they chose Beastly Kingdom instead, it’d be literally a shell of that concept art and people would complain about it like they complain about Dinoland.

While I’ll always appreciate the idea of Beastly Kingdom (and love the inclusion of the dragon in the AK logo), I think the Pandora final product (which also has budget cuts), is better than the planned Beastly Kingdom

I defintely think that only seeing the concept art paints an unrealistic picture. If it had been built, probably would have been basically nothing but a rollercoaster with some dragon theming and a scaled back maze. It is an idea with a ton of potential, but I agree that I doubt they would've topped Pandora.

BUT...

Fully agree that Beastly Kingdom would have brought a great balance and more thematic cohesion to Animal Kingdom. Bring the message full circle.

Though a heavily revamped Camp Minnie-Mickey is my unrealistic pipe dream to top Pandora and BK :P

E-Ticket Log Flume themed to a Junior Woodchuck trip through the woods (How is Splash Mountain still the only Log Flume E-Ticket dark ride Disney has ever done when the format works so well!)

C-Ticket Dark Ride themed to Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck

Expand the Festival of the Lion King Theater to handle more people. Possibly with the option to have different floats set up to rotate shows with a similar "Travelling storyteller, circus acts, and interactive upbeat tone" set up.

Add Character Cabins/Campsite walk through attractions. A mix between Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse and Mickey/Minnie's House

Rope Course/Play Area/Educational Experience similar to Redwood Creek Challenge Trail

Mess Hall character dining location

Animal Exhibits of common North American animals portrayed as exciting sights showing off that there is the wonder of nature all around us not just on the other side of the world. Possibly using this as a path that connects the expanded land to Africa

The big theme being about seeing nature through the eyes of a child and experiencing the wonder they see. Mostly told through the eyes of toons as a relatable entry point.

Plus, it could be a great evolution of the Toon Town concept that FL never really had a great version of.

Plus plus, it would give Animal Kingdom a land with a very different vibe than the rest of the park to help balance it out without clashing.

Admittedly, this might only be better than BK or Pandora in terms of my own personal desires, but I feel like the idea of a Toon Town Campground has so much potential that was never explored!

This is sort of slightly 100% OT, but this is where I am right now:

It’s Canyonlands National Park.

Question of the Day
The first part of the game involves building a castle park. With that said, what is your favorite land in any castle park?
Having only been to WDW in Orlando, I can't speak for the other parks around the world, but I would honestly die for Liberty Square. I think it has such a unique feel to it, with abundant theming and some kick- attractions too. I just wish they had kept Great Moments in History with the muppets...

It would be an interesting time travel prompt

To imagine Beastly Kingdom existing - where does the park go from there? You also have to consider the real world implications like what we are remembering today, that tanked the theme park industry for a few years. Would we have seen an Everest?

That’s an interesting “what if”. Would a more built out AK mean that Everest wouldn’t happen?

Probably not, although it'd still likely get criticism for being lackluster in attraction count. I could see a Mulan ride popping up in Asia instead, without Camp Minnie Mickey there would be less of Disney properties in the park and more justification to "be super cool for all the kiddos" that Eisner loved to emulate.

That is if Beastly Kingdom even resembles what was planned in the concept art. The more I look into it the more I get concerned by the emphasis on Hellenic architecture. I feel like it could have easily become overrun by the Hercules IP. First in just meet and greets, then the Dragon coaster gets hastily rethemed to the Hydra, etc etc.

As the forum’s resident animal guy, I’ve gotta admit, I don’t like the idea of Beastly Kingdomme. I feel like there’s a way to do fantasy and tie it into nature and everything, but Beastly Kingdomme wouldn’t have done that, and to me, Animal Kingdom is supposed to 100% focus on our connection with nature, not anything else.

I have issues with Pandora as well, but I think that of the two, Pandora is able to blend nature with humanity better than, at least the concepts, of Beastly Kingdomme do. I feel like it was just going to be dragons and unicorns and other stuff in a very fantasy world that would fit better in Magic Kingdom than in Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom works with Pandora and the Yeti because they are much more in tune with nature than a dragon eating knights or a Fantasia boat ride would be.

I’m probably in the minority because of how biased I am towards Animal Kingdom, but if they were to expand the park at all, I’d rather see an Australia, a South America, or something else that is far more in tune with the theme of the park

I’ve explained my love of Beastly Kingdom’s concept: man being inspired by nature. A park about man’s connection to nature that doesn’t show how man has been inspired by nature does not follow through on the thesis of the park presented in Discovery Island.

Technically Chester & Hester's Dinorama shows how man was inspired by nature to make a cheap and scientifically inaccurate tourist trap. So, the theme still lives on!

Australia would 100% be my pick for the next land! Great wildlife and a continent not explored at all anywhere by Disney.

I'm biased - but Glacier Bay would be my pick by Team Baby Groot
