our last day was the 20th, and it did seem like it was picking up some that day. I wasn't sure if it was just from being a Saturday or not

Hope to see more about your trip!

Sorry that the park was so crowded. Did it ruin your entire vacation or did you still have a good time???

We went 10/31/06 - 11/04/06 and found that there were hardly any lines at all....

I have one word for our trip........

CROWDED

Last time we visited was in May 2003 and it was just as crowded this time if not more. We were very disappointed.

Did you get to go to a Halloween Party? I hope so! Those are so much fun! The fireworks are great and you get SOO MUCH candy! I can't comment on the parade because the people I was with made me miss it on the 21st !!!!

But I'm seeing it this Friday!

Anyway....the Halloween Party is a great way to enjoy MK with minimal crowds!

Yes, we had a very good time but we could have went anytime of the year since my DD is just a toddler. We chose that week of October since I heard that it wasn't a busy time of the year and most of the schools were finished with their fall breaks. There seemed to be a lot of people from Europe too. They must have fall breaks in October too???

We were totally speachless while we walked down Main Street the first day. It was about 6pm and it was wall to wall people. I figured it might be a little more crowded since it was an EMH night but it was so bad that you could barely walk. I wont go in October again.

It rained most of the week too. Mostly just sprinkles or rain showers that didn't last more than an hour but our last day it just pored down.

We went to the MNNSHP on the 23rd and as far as crowds go it was miserable. It was just PACKED with people! I thought they could only sell so many tickets to that???? We ended up skipping the fireworks so we could go to the HM. Which was only a 20 minute wait compared to the 60 minute plus wait times.

Luckly we went to 4 character meals which gave my little one an opportunity to meet with the characters since the lines were pretty long to see them in the parks.

Don't get me wrong. We had a good time. It's Disney World! :p But I wish I would have gone a few weeks later or in Jan. or Feb. when I know kids are in school. Just wanted to give people a heads up for those planning future trips. And to see if anyone else experienced this.

I totally agree with you! We go this week most years and never saw the amount of crowds we did this year. It made the week kind of miserable from that standpoint and it was hot and humid most of the week. 10/23 MNSSHP was so very crowded. This was planned to be our last trip in October due to school, but it is definitly out now. Trying to figure out if we should go during spring break or the week right after school lets out. While I am a big proponent of school, I can't stand that there are so few options to vacation now. Makes me really consider home schooling.

Wow! Just the week before it was completely different!!
We went to the party on the 18th, and there were no waits anywhere.
The entire week, we never really saw a wait longer than half an hour, if that(except for Soarin, but we fastpassed it)

At least you still had a good time!!

I was just there for the 24th thru the 28th. Seemed a little crowded on the 28th at AK, 60 min wait for Everst, 50 for Safarii (both posted times) but the earlier days as MK and Epcot we never had a wait more than 20 mins. (Except for Soaring) I am used to going in July/August so I may be a bad comparison, but they didn't seem that bad to me.

I visited WDW and Universal Oct. 20-26, staying at the Shades of Green. After arriving late Saturday, got rolling on Sunday.

Although Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party was moderately crowded Sunday, the rest of the week was not really. Even Universal on a Tuesday was dead. It took me and my friend longer to walk through the preshow lines to get back onto the rollercoaster or ride experience. We did Hulk and Dueling Dragons five, six, seven times and Spiderman three times. My friend, who lives on the Spacecoast south of Cape Canaveral, said compared to his summer trip, he did more rides with me in a 2-hour span then he did in the summer. Summer time he waited up to a hour just to ride Hulk ONCE.

I would say though, Thursday and Friday ended up being a little more crowded back at WDW. I went to early magic hours at the Magic Kingdom and Big Thunder reopened that day, Oct. 25. There was a 50-minute wait posted but I got on the coaster in about 40.

All the major rides --Pirates, Peter Pan, Big Thunder -- were big waits, like 40-60 minute waits, at best. Over at Soarin' in The Land, it was a good 35-40 minute wait, and Mission: Space was even longer at 45-50 minutes, best. But it was the start of the weekend.

Thursday evening at MGM before Fantasmic, the Great Movie Ride was a 50-minute wait, and that was at around 6:30 p.m. So, I decided to ride Rock and Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror before Fantasmic. Before that I went to Animal Kingdom and noticed the Safari ride was 50-plus, and I passed since I was more in a Yeti mood.

I guess, though, it was nice to do a solo trip during my vacation. I got onto rides quicker, like Rock n Roller and Everest. Single rider lines rock. Wednesday and Thursday I hit three parks each (Wed -- Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom, then back to Epcot for fireworks) and Thurs (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, MGM), and closed out those nights with visits to the Adventure's Club. Even Pleasure Island was dead. I was told by cast members at Mannequins that ever since they instituted a 21-an-over policy, the clubs have been dead Monday - Wednesday. They start to pick up on Thursdays and the weekends are busy.

For me the entire vacation / holiday was perfect. I did what I needed to do, go where I wanted, and walked a ton, like 20-25 miles at least.

Late October is a very nice time to visit, I believe.

A ton of other families that I spoke to were just as surprised as we were. I didn't think it would be deserted but I didn't think we would have more than 20-30 minute wait times on most rides.

Here was our week....

We stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside which was BEAUTIFUL!!! LOVED IT!!! They gave my DD a birthday button at check in. I didn't have to ask. I just told them when I made the reservations that it was her birthday. They also left a card in the room with Cinderella's picture on her birthday.

Oct 22 - MK ---We arrived at 6pm and stayed until close. It was EMH night so the park didn't close until 12am.

We slept for a few hours before we arrived and my DH wasn't feeling very well after he ate the shrimp pasta at our resort. My DH either got food poisoning or a really, really bad virus so he toughed it out until 10pm and then left the park and went back to the hotel. My mom, daugher and I stayed until midnight. From about 10pm to midnight it was less croweded (and more enjoyable) so we got to ride Winnie the Pooh and Buzz with only a 5-10 minute wait. We even rode Buzz twice in a row twice which made my DD very happy.)

Oct 23- We swam while my DH stayed in bed sick as a dog. Poor guy. Pool was really nice. Went back to the room for a nap then we all headed to the MNNSHP. Arrived at MK at 6pm. Later than I planned b/c of my DH sickness. We had dinner reservations at 7:30pm for the Royal Table Dinner at the Castle. The food was awesome. The service was awesome. The whole experience was unforgetable. My daughter had a terrific time. She got a little cake with a candle in it and a scoop of ice cream with a chocolate crown! Too cute. :slurp: Get the prime rib if you go. Of course the park was packed with people. We spoke to the family standing next to us and they were even more upset than we were with the crowds since they had to push a set of two year old twins and a four year old around a crowded park. They too thought that Disney only sold so many tickets to the MNNSHP. That's why they went. We didn't get much candy. Didn't have time to see it all. Partly b/c my dd danced and danced and danced at the dance party in fantasyland which was adorable. She danced with the mice (who she loves) and chip and dale. We did get some candy during the parade (which was great) but it got wet when it pored down rain while we were in Pirates. There wasn't much of a wait for that since it was about 11pm. The stoller got soaking wet since I had no idea that it was going to rain and I didn't cover the stoller with a poncho. Bad move. We then left the park since it was poring down rain.

Oct 24-- Animal Kingdom. Arrived at 10am. Pretty crowded. Hear others complaining. Eat lunch late at 1:30pm at the Pizza place but even thought it was late it was still crowded. It rained on and off all day. Missed the safari b/c of the rain. Hit everything else. Thank goodness for EMHs. That's when we got to ride most of the rides.

Oct 25 --- Epcot. Wasn't too crowed in the am. Arrived at 10am. Got right on Nemo. No wait at all. Looked at the tip board and saw there wasn't a wait so we hit that first. Nemo was REALLY CUTE! Saw Turtle Talk with Cruch. Really cute. Grabed a fast pass for Soarin. When to Living with the Land which was a 20 minute wait. Ate at the CS lunch in the Land Pavillan. Very good. Then rode Soarin. That was a really neat ride. Thank goodness for baby switch so all 3 of us could ride! Did Journey into Imagination with Figment which my 2 year old enjoyed. And saw that darn 3D movie which scared my little one to death! My DH though she would be fine and I didn't agree. Unfortunatly I was right. There is a snake that comes out at you and a lion too. She was in tears! Just skip it if you have little ones. I don't see why Disney had to include that. It's not just a snake or loin, it's a VERY VERY scarey snake and lion. We rode Mission Space. I went twice. Waited only 20 minutes the first time and then baby switched and got right on.
Then we headed for World Showcase at 4pm. Skipped our dinner in Italy b/c of the time. We just sampled foods instead which was more fun anyway. We used our snack credits. It started to rain as soon as we entered England. But I got my Snakebite at the Pub so I was happy. :p Rain off and on all night. We didn't ride anything. Just looked around.

Oct 26---Had reservations at 1900 Park Fare at 5pm so we split up the day. Arrived at MK at 11am. Rode a few rides, not many b/c of the crowds and wait times. Then took the boat over to the Grand Floridian. The food was excellent and the entertaiment was great. Another AWESOME dinner. My daughter loved it. After dinner we headed to Downtown Disney which was packed with people. We shopped then took the boat back to the hotel. The boat ride was much more enjoyable than the bus ride. Really, really nice. I loved staying at Port Orleans Riverside!!!!!!

Oct 27---Magic Kingdom (yes, again) We were kind of tired of MK but we didn't have Hopper passes and my little one loved it there. We still had a ton of rides that we didn't get to ride b/c of the crowds anyway. Well my mom ended up getting VERY VERY sick and had to leave at about 3pm. We got to skip the parade since we saw it the day before and used the opportunity to ride Jungle Cruise since it was only a 20 mintue wait. It started to rain so we headed for shelter. About an hour later we finally hit some more rides and just dealt with the rain by wearing ponchos. (Believe me, it's hard to push a stoller in a crowd while it's raining and keeping a poncho on a 3 year old who doesn't want it on.) We saw the parade at 8pm. My DD wanted to go on Peter Pan but it was a 45 minute wait at 9pm!!! And it was still crowed when we left at 10pm. Unbelievable.

Oct 28 -- MGM...more the same....crowded....We went to the Hollywood and Vine Lunch with Jo Jo and see LOVED IT. Food was good too. The park was still packed at 10:30pm.

Oct 29--Epcot---Rained, poured down rain...Princess Breakfast at 10am. It was ok. Very rushed. May have been the weather.

It just goes to show what many of us that live locally and/or work for WDW have been saying... There's no such thing as "low season" or "Off season" anymore. Last January was proof of that. It was SO much busier than it had ever been in the past. Even beat all pre-9/11 January numbers. More people are finding out about things like the value resorts, multi-day MYW tickets, the Disney Dining Plan and websites like mousesavers, and learning that a Disney trip can be more affordable than they think!

It seems like it's all about luck. On the plane ride home, two ladies sitting in front of us said that they went to the MNNSHP on Sunday and it was compleletly dead. I thought that night would be crowded since it's a weekend night!!! They got on every ride without a wait. Made me sick to hear that!!! One of the women use to work at WDW. She said that fall break is the reason for the crowds in October. She said the best time is the first 2 weeks in Novemeber and right after Christmas.

Oh well. My little one had a WONDERFUL time anyway. And I'll never forget it. The look on her face when she saw Cinderella was priceless. She already wants to go back!

we too thought it was very busy, a lot more than previous years, we still had a good time, but we did not get to ride several rides due to wait times and fastpasses being gone by 12-1 pm. Especially at AK.

We did MNSSHP on 23rd, it was packed and we did not get to do as much as I thought we would. however it was our first time and I had no idea what was available and how to plan the night. hopefully I will get another chance at it sometime.

My birthday dinner at Whispering Canyon was great, (so much fun) and anniversary dinner at le Cellier was also wonderful.

We did expereince a few rude bus drivers but overall a good trip.

I think Disney needs to do something about the crowds for the MNNSHP. They should only allow so many tickets to be sold. It's really not fair. Espeically when you plan your night thinking that it wouldn't be crowded. I was told by Disney when I bought the tickets that it couldn't be crowded since they only sold so many tickets. Others were told the same.

The Dance Party was really cute and the parade was neat. Didn't get to see the fireworks or trick or treat. All of the lines to meet the characters were WAY too long. We just walked by and waived. I knew we would miss out of some of the activites b/c of the dinner but I not as much as we did.

Just one general comment...

Oct 24-- Animal Kingdom. Arrived at 10am.
Oct 25 --- Epcot. Arrived at 10am.
Oct 26--- Arrived at MK at 11am.

Unfortunately, those arriving in the 10am-11am hour are going to hit the most morning crowds; in my experience, that is when all those who like to sleep in arrive at the parks.

We traveled with 4 families on one recent trip, 1 of the families likes to sleep in - they arrived at our park of the day between 10am and 11am or later. The rest of us were there at or before opening, sometimes using morning EMH. Guess which family had the most trouble getting onto all of the rides that they wanted? They also didn't like to use Fastpass at first, said it was too confusing - but once they figured it out, and realized that if they got to the parks at opening, they were a much happier family - and that made the rest of us happier too!

BTW, WDW is setting record attendance numbers in 2007.

Yeah but we were there from a little before 11am until 8pm on the 24th for EMHs. I figured an hour shouldn't have made that much of a difference. Epecially since we planned to just eat a quick CS lunch after the "lunch rush". (Which was still a rush at 1:30.) :p My just turned 3 year old could only do so much in a day. And she was too tired to get up at 7am. Plus I had a sick DH and mother during the trip who I had to drag out of bed. And my mom didn't believe in the naps.

One problem was that the buses leaving our resort were so full that we had to wait for another bus which took another 15-20 minutes. Then another 10 minutes to load the bus, especailly with someone with a scooter or wheelchair, which happened very often. For some reason our resort was the busiest as far as lines for the bus. Must be the place to be. :p

We would get to the bus stop at about 9am and get the the parks an hour later. Then as soon as we got there they have the character meeting right in the front of the park of right after entering so my DD saw them and wanted to see them so we had to wait in line another 20-30 minutes. So that made it about 11am by the time we got to really "enter" the park!! We used Fastpasses too in all of the parks. :)

This is why we picked the end of October. You can only do so much with a 2-3 year old.....oh and a smoker. Another problem was smoking areas. We DO NOT smoke but my mother does. That was another pain. I totally agree with the non-smoking policy!!! But travel with a smoker and you will feel my pain. :o:hammer:

Seems like it was just the luck of the drawl. You just have to have the mind set before you go that it's going to be busy no matter what time of the year. And you can only see so much. Like we didn't get to go on Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain b/c of the wait times. And the Fast pass times were so spread out. It's hard to wait 30 minutes for a ride with a 3 year old....at least my 3 year old!

Oh and the CM wouldn't tell us what was open for EMH at MGM or AK until we could get the braclets! Which was a total bummer! So be sure to plan ahead!

There is a really cute dance party at MGM for EMH guests. It's at Playhouse Disney Stage and the characters dance with the kids! It was from 7:30pm until 10:30pm. VERY CUTE!!!!! And there was a EMH Loin King show at 6pm. If we knew that we would have gone then instead of the earlier show.

Well, if it makes you feel better, Disney does limit the number of tickets they sell for the parties. (Holloween sold out). I guess they sell more than you want them to though.

Like other have said, there is no such thing as "no crowds" anymore. It is just a matter of managing them.

As far as getting to the parks sooner. I know it seems like only an hour differance, but it can be a huge differance and make a your trip so much better if you get there before opening.

I have found the best way to see more is get there at opening and then leave around 1:00 or 2:00 when the crowds are at their worst. If you go back to the hotel for a swim or rest you will have more energy in the evenings. You can head back to the park around 4:00 or 5:00 when a lot of people are leaving for the day.

We learned the same lesson this past trip, in February. I always thought the trips back to the room for a rest mid-day were for families with smaller children or toddlers. Our boys are 9 & 11. We got an early start one day for Cinderella's Royal Table. When we came out of breakfast there was virtually nobody in Fantasyland. We walked right onto all the rides that we always pass up because they're mobbed with younger children and families. We then left the park at lunch time to catch a good, solid nap so we'd be able to keep our oldest DS awake and un-Grumpy for EMH back at MK. ((Oldest DS wakes at 6 and is ready for bed no later than 9 no matter what day it is.)) We not only laid back down, we got out of our clothes, I put on a night shirt, and we blacked out the room. We all slept a solid 2-3 hours. That night at EMH we had a blast and no grumpy kids. We saw much more than we normally would and we didn't have any grumpy fights. It was wonderful. Both of the DS's even got along consistantly. Now I try to make us dining reservations in parks prior to opening so we'll be moving early and we can follow this type of schedule. It works out so great for us. Plus, when at WDW the kids wake early anyway because they're excited. Once they're stirring and playing Mom & Dad aren't getting very good quality sleep anyway because we can hear them and usually are breaking up fights. :)
