I don't know where to put this so i'll put it here.

I was watching the Travel Channal to day ( thay have a summer marathon) and I saw a top ten show of the best thrill parks in the world. The winner was Universal Studios in Orlando. Disney wasn't even on the list. So that's a sign that they need more thrill rides. because there competers on first place.

Personaly I don't go to Disney for thrill rides or lack there of I go to Disney for Magic , and that I know they would be #1 on if there were such a list

Disney is number one theme park, magic park, way-of-life park, service park, quality park, etc...

So what if they don't make the top ten thrill list...

if that show had been made sometime post-August or October, when M:S has opened, perhaps things would be different???

*shrugs*

Dunno...

But I can say, I do enjoy watching those "fun and sun" Travel Channel shows :)

Most people, eh? Last time I checked, Disney still had much, much higher attendance. (I'm sorry for sounding obnoxious)

Yeah, the fact that that show is a good 3 years or so old doesn't help it either. I don't think the Travel Channel needs to tell Disney how to run a theme park, especially as long as Disney stays on top of Universal attendance-wise. How about the Travel/Discovery Channel does a "Most-Visited Parks" countdown, or yeah, a "Most Immersive, Magic Parks" countdown, or even a "Best Disney Parks" countdown, now wouldn't that be cool? The thrill rides will come, in time. And wouldn't that be awesome if the pure opening of Mission: Space got Epcot on this list!?!? I mean, Epcot, the quote un quote "Most Boring place on Earth." I really hope Space gets Disney some thrill ride attention!

Umm......I dont think that Disney is the same and hard to compare the two. Also since when did Universal have a larger attendance than Disney parks?

If I can pick any #1 thrill park, I would not pick Islands of Adventure. I would most likely pick either Cedar Point in Ohio or Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. Universal has minimal thrill rides compared with the others.

I am not a thrill ride person but I cant see how Universal is better than Cedar Point. imo

I agree in theory. I say "in theory" because I haven't been to Cedar Point, and the last time I was at Magic Mountain was, I think, 1987. In what I would define as "thrill" rides, IOA has Hulk, Fear Fall, Dueling Dragons, and that's about it. Well, I'll thow it in for the sake of argument, Spider-Man. That's four, counting both Dragons, five. I just don't see IOA being #1 for "thrills."

Oh, well. Spending three days at WDW in June. One day at IOA (to make my son happy). That's all that matters.

I go to Disney to see the thrill in my childrens eyes... They are only 4 & 2 but that thrill is much more satisfying than the thrill rides at IOA hehe..

Disney is still #1 to me :)

I agree with all of the above... Disney is, and probably will never be known for thrills. In the last few years, however, Disney has had it's spawn of thrill rides (TT, RnRC, M:S, and now EE) but I still wouldn't expect four new rides in three parks to get Disney anywhere near the top ten. I was surprised when you said Universal Studios made number one... I'd truly expect Cedar Point, maybe Magic Mountain.

But back to the main point: Disney is known for magic. Universal has shown they know they're two different parks by their, "Pixie dust not your thing?" commercial. Disney parks aren't thrill parks... they go the extra step to take attention to detail and add some pixie dust, which I might mention seems to hurt Universal...

I myself used to love Disney to death(for my sake, look at my name!), but it seems the magic has worn off. I have become more of a IOA and US fan lately, but I still like Disney. I think they voted for IOA for being clean, having a mix of thrills and rides for the kids, and overall really going for the hi-tech, high budget rides.

I know a lot of people who feel that way. What did it for you and what would make it come back?

I don't know. When I was a kid, it just seemed so great. But around 12, it just seemed like most new rides didn't have that disney flare that they used to have when they opened(who can forget their first drop on Splash Mountain, or first chill in the Haunted Mansion?). I'm 14 now, so I've suffered non-disney-ridus for a while now. What could make it come back? I'm hoping for Mission:SPACE or Expedition Everest. Really looking forward to these attractions.

I didn't get a chance to see the show, but someone said it is nearly three years old. From what I can remember, Disney hadn't let the travel channel even film at their parks until the beginning of the 100 yrs of Magic celebration. At least that's when I first noticed that Disney was even acknowledged by the travel channel. If the show was made before they even were allowed to film there, that may explain why Disney wasn't even mentioned on the show. Even so, I wouldn't expect Disney to rank high on a thrill park list, if they mean "scream out-your-lungs" type of thrills. Disney is much more than that.

I will use my own family as an example. Only my younger brother and I even visit Universal. My parents and older brother absolutely hate the place and won't go back. They really just enjoy sitting back at the Disney parks and "soaking up the atmosphere". I don't know how to explain it, but there is something in the air at Disney that just isn't anywhere else (if you know what I mean ;) )

I personally hope none of Disney's current parks turn into a "thrill park". Right now there is a good balance at each that the entire family is happy. IOA is very thrill oriented. Its a great park for that, but it offers little for those who don't want thrills. Universal Studios has a better balance, but they too are slowly becoming more thill oriented as they take out rides like Kong and replace them with the Mummy. The same type of thing is happening to Epcot. I am VERY excited for M:S, but I don't think anymore 'slower' rides should be removed there for the sake of thrill rides.
