1/1/09 DHS Update (New TSMM T-shirts...maybe...I think)

Went over to DHS this evening for a few hours to check out the Osborne Lights before they're shut off for the year. Here are a few random items:

  • Went on Sounds Dangerous, possibly for the last time. It wasn't any better than I rememberd it, and I don't think my headset was quite working right--I'm pretty sure I was getting mono instead of stereo. I also didn't get "sneezed" on by the elephant. Furthermore, it doesn't look like they ever updated the trivia in the queue. Most of the shows that are referenced are long gone.
  • Osborne Lights were great as always.
  • Toy Story Midway Mania was crowded as usual. 130 mins around 8:00, 90 mins near park close.
  • I think there are new (and normally priced) adult t-shirts for TSMM. One is dark blue with a row of the Little Green Men and "Ring Me" written in large letters on the front. Another features the Toy Story characters in a style similar to the artwork on the ride vehicles. I took pictures of both with my craptacular cell phone camera, and will post them if they are indeed new.
  • Art of Disney is selling small reproductions of some of the Main Street windows. I recall seeing Walt's train station window, Roy's window, and, I think, Joe Fowler's (though I could be wrong on the last one...there were three though). Didn't catch the prices.
  • Tower of Terror sounds fantastic, with awesome new sound effects in the boiler room and drop shaft. Also had a great CM in the library (Chris? Maybe?). He actually lunged out of the doors leading into the library and stayed very much in character. I think more letters on the sign were burnt out than usual. It said "Holly---d -ower Hotel"
  • There were some minor audio issues in the Great Movie Ride, particularly in Munchkinland, where different ends of the room seemed to be out of synch with each other.
  • All signage still reflects the Year of a Million Dreams, as would be expected. Oddly enough, I think I saw the Dream Squad still out and about. I wonder what they're still up to.
That pretty much covers it. Let me know if you want the t-shirt pictures posted.

Just wondering, which side of Tower of Terror did you ride?

Foxtrot side (and a few minor things on Echo) still has a few audio issues that they weren't able to iron out before the holidays, and didn't want to tweak them in case it screwed something else up.

That shirt has been around sporadically since the ride opened, and I still can't believe that's on a men's T-shirt. :lookaroun

when riding Bravo, the 5th dimension is a little too quiet at the moment because it still needs some tweaking.
(yes, I'm such a nerd that I notice these things)

Come to think of it...I think I did notice it a bit on the quiet side. However, it was overshadowed by the really good, clear hallway, and, I'm nearly positive I heard some new weird sounds in the drop shaft. Was it my imagination, or was Sally Shine singing "It's raining, it's pouring" right before the first drop? It sounded like a female voice, but I couldn't make it out exactly.

Thinking of that, the little electic spark that comes right before the first drop was about a half-second off from its sound effect.

Hmm, you can hear "its raining, its pouring" in the corridor scene, the 5th dimension, and in two of the four drop sequences, but not before they start.

The three window reproductions are of Walt's Train Station window, Roy's window and Elias' window. They are $50 each and, I believe, are limited to 500 or 1500 pieces each (can't remember which).

If your willing, I'll see the pictures of the shirts---I don't think I've ever seen them!

I'd love to know if the dream squad would be continuing, even though the contest is over, I can see them still handing out smaller prizes like lanyards and ears and stuff....that would be cool.

I have to hit the Art of Disney when I go down in a few weeks. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see what they look like.

Ok, good. You rode Echo side, the side that currently sounds better.

Even more curious, did you ride Alpha (furthest left) or Bravo (2nd from left) ?

Due to queue length, I've only ridden Alpha my last 3-4 trips. Which do you recommend and what are all the names (left to right)? Alpha, Bravo, Echo, Foxtrot?

Thanks!

If I'm reading it correctly, there are four entrances to two drop towers. Entrances Alpha and Bravo 'feed' drop Echo, entrances Charlie and Delta 'feed' Foxtrot.

Yep, yep, yep. Nail, head again Monty.

I believe Echo side, Bravo elevator has the best audio right now if my memory serves right. I rode all of the combinations this past trip.

Could anyone go more in depth about the window reproductions? Such as how large they are and if they have a frame. I am wondering if they are about the same size as the attraction posters that are sold for $35?

Not even close--more on the scale of a standard sized index card. It's very well detailed, but it's very small. It comes on a little stand.
