09 Hours SLASHED!

I know this has been talked about over and over again, but I just took a look at Feb hours when I am there....wow I will be in bed early! I have been visiting WDW for almost 10 years and have never seen it this bad, even after 9/11 you could still do things after 9pm. With MK closing at 8 and the Studios at 7 on the weekends it looks like I will be spending more nights at PI....oh that is right! :brick: Well looks like hotel tours and movies at Fort Wilderness will be things to add to my list!

Evening EMH is your friend that time of year...

I've been the last few Februarys and the park closings are always earlier. What you're seeing is the same as previous years. It's pretty chilly in the evenings [even for a Canadian!].

My planning charts from February 07 and 08 reflect the same early closings.

On weekends the parks were always open a bit later. But really on a Saturday unless you want to hit Epcot you have nothing to do after 8....it is getting shorter. I know during the week the hours have always been short, but weekends are new.

Saturday 2 Feb '08 MGM closed at 7PM. I was there.

Well with the early closures, you should expect it to be light crowds. I think it was like that this past Jan. and it was still crowded, and I was upset.

I remember after 9-11 the MK and Studios used to close at 7pm, and they neither would do Fantasmic or Fantasy in the Sky. And there where no such things as EMH and they would not do e-ride nights in Feb. either. So things aren't that bad yet...

Mmmmmm:shrug: Doesn't look different from our trip in January this year. Maybe I am missing something.

Nope you have the same hours. Also keep an eye on EMH's they are cutting those hours also. I know we plan to going during the off season to avoid the crowds, but really they are doing some major cutting right now.

The hours HAVE been drastically cut back.

There have been midnight MK closings over President's Day week recently (I don't have the hours in front of me or I'd say this year included). There regularly have been 10 and 11 closings in January-March (go look at the website and see how many you see).

DAK is almost entirely on a 9-5 schedule the first 2 1/2 months of 2009.

The Studios are closing earlier than prior years and Epcot thus far has just the earlier Friday nights from 1/9 to 4/3.

And let's not even compare the hours with those of the 70s, 80s and 90s since so many hours were cut already in GOOD TIMES.

Just wait until the 'real' wave of hour cuts get put up when they get a cold hard look at resort bookings for 2009!

There is a fine line they must walk. Cut hours too much and people will not go... or cut hours and save money so the rates and ticket prices will stay somewhat affordable. If I go and they have shorter hours on a few of the days of my visit I can deal with that. However, if I am there for my standard 5 to 7 days and the hours are cut every night, then I would not be happy. I am sure there are plenty of others with the same mindset. They weathered 9/11 well and bounced back well so I am sure they will do the right thing again this time.

My point is that they are not doing "major cutting."

I pulled out my trip info from January 08 and the hours look just about the same as February 09. The only cut I see is the one hour on EMH nights at Epcot.

It seems to me if they cut the hours, more people will rent cars and venture off property for their evenings entertainment. Not what Disney wants

If EMH were done away with and hours shorten there is really NO reason to stay on property. What else can you do in the evening if you dont have a car? PI Clubs are history. I dont need to travel to WDW to see a movie at an AMC. Disneyquest is a one visit attraction.

Same as I said. They always have these shortened hours in February, I'm not seeing anything being "cut" any more than usual.

The DDP and free transportation will keep some people on property. I can't say with 100% conviction that I wouldn't stay on property if they did away with EMH, but that would definitely make it harder to rationalize the higher cost of the Disney resorts.
