‘We’re putting people who are visiting Disney in danger.’ Firefighters say they are short-handed at theme park

Well, what other option does he have? They’re in a unique position given how the district is set up and managed, but again, look at the resources available to the company. Not trying to get into a finance discussion, but look at the money they drop on rides and their resorts. Additional funds boosting manpower for public safety is nothing to them. As mentioned before, they aren’t scared to pay law enforcement the going rate for specials pay.
They are required to pay Orange and Osceola sheriffs for law enforcement support since the statute that created the district specifically restricts the RCID government from providing law enforcement to the district.

Agreed, the point is that there’s no shortage of deputies.

Disney is not required to hire additional police officers. That’s his point. They happily pay the premiums for an active police presence but don’t pay what would be a better rate for additional fire fighters.

I’ll even expand on this…..I get funding is a numbers game. Cops are easy to pay, especially when you’re hiring them to work a special. Cops provide a return on the investment, even if it’s something simple like improving traffic flow, and they’re basically a contractor…..Disney isn’t on the hook for any sort of additional benefit such as insurance or retirement. Firefighters are generally more expensive…..the equipment itself is crazy expensive and it’s not cheap to train the personnel either, and that’s before you even get into pay and benefits. Further, WDW experiences almost no fire loss so it’s hard as hell to justify their cost to a bean counter. However, the place screams of potential for major incidents as described several times in this thread, and plenty of evidence exists suggesting there are issues meeting the day to day needs of the population in the district, especially EMS operations. At the very least, the EMS side appears to need additional staffing, assuming strong mutual aid/auto aid agreements are in place for major incidents in the district.

Property values are set by the county. Disney (and other local land owners) challenged Singh and won because he was unfairly overvaluing property. It has not happened every year, just the years with Singh using unfair taxing rules. The judges have ruled against Singh because he was in the wrong.
Hypocritical , Disney pays lower property taxes sided by friendly judges but charges more to the guests in terms of higher pricing than other hotels.

I don’t think you understand how this works.

Disney pays appropriate taxes based on the value of the property according to accepted appraisal practices. It has nothing to do with judges being friendly.

The rub always comes in at "highest and best use" of the land. WDW sees it differently than Singh
