‘Glow With the Show’ Ears Coming to Walt Disney World Resort This Fall

I wore mine at Disneyland with my friends. I think a good idea is to have a section for them so they can all see the effect in real time. I spent more time looking to my side at my friends because the technology was equally as fasinating.

I think the chances are even worse at WDW because the majority of the visitors are only there for vacation. DL can sometimes do it (especially on times like NYE) because they have an overwhelmingly local crowd. There will probably be a media event or something here just to show how good it can work, but I doubt you'll ever see it be much more than something to make more money off of.

I'm spending enough money as it is when I go to WDW later this month. (Happy to do so, BTW). Sorry, I'm not going to spend $25 for a glowing mouse-ear hat that only works at one show. It's like paying for headphones on an airplane but you're never going to use them again.

After watching the demo video over and over I think it is really cool technology. Always been a fan of WoC and I think the Glow Ears in WDW would be a nice addition to the shows they have. I did notice that it actually makes the viewing experience better... as someone stated when they go off you see a plethera of cellphones and cameras, but I didn't notice any of those when the ears were lit up. IMO I would rather see glowing ears interacting that a dark crowd with spots of various cell phones and ipads glowing. I think the price point is a bit high to get so many people using them, but I imagine they will keep this going for some time and year after year people will build up their glowing ear collections and eventually the parks will be littered with them. I give it 2-3 years before it really has the visual impact unless they offer some discounts and get them more affordable or a perk of stayin onsite.
Agree with you on them being very cool. I can see getting one pair for a family of four but there is no way I'd spend $100 of ears when we are once every couple of years visitors. With my kids fighting over them I might say no all together and stick with the disney glow toys we got at the dollar store at home before we went.

I want one! Indeed the effects will work better if the majority of the crowd decides to wear them, but this won't stop me purchasing one, it's the thought of being part of the show that counts.

Can you use the same pair of ears to every park and does it have a GPS installed to track which park are you in? It'd be great if you're staying at one of monorail resorts or the Boardwalk and your ears still worked.

It's been established that Disneyland hats will work at Disney World.

I can't wait to get a pair of these on my December trip! They started one week after our Disneyland trip last year, so I missed out. I can see WDW being more successful because of the visitors are not all locals... Plus all of the DVC people can leave theirs there for the next trip!

But geesh! $25... Wouldn't they sell a ton more at $20?

EDIT: also, shouldn't the show get a little tune up, so they can do more with the colors?

I'm glad to see WDW is finally getting in on the action, but I'd be lying if I said I would purchase them. I've never been an ear wearer as it is, but I do want to see these in action. I think we'll see them used more during Wishes than anything else (since WDW's version of Walmart lines both sides of the street).

I think the price for them is just fine. Regular mouse ears are usually 15 bucks plus 3 more if you get it embroidered so cost isn't that bad.

And it's good for more than just one show. It's just starting out earlier at Fantasmic then moving over for wishes.
I think they shoul find a way to use them for the electrical parade...

As long as TDO's Marketing Monster kicks it into high gear I'm sure it will go off well.

On opening night they will pass out several thousand free ear hats to happy tourists and get lots of great publicity shots and videos of the massive crowd all Glowing With The Show. Ms. Fickley-Baker on the corporate Blog will then use those photos and video clips to breathlessly announce their arrival and how super-duper MAGICAL! they are, all for the low price of only $24.99 plus tax.

Then a week later there will be one or two people wearing them out of 5,000 at Fantasmic or fireworks and the effect will be lost. Stacks of the extra-expensive hats will sit in big piles in the Emporium for the next 18 months before the whole thing is quietly abandoned.

Also, they are much heavier and thicker and made of denser material than the average hat. It will be hot and sticky to wear them in Florida for much of the year. But enjoy the marketing kickoff!

We bought these at Disneyland in April for our 5 year old son... And the ears are so heavy he could not keep them on his head ...they kept sliding down ....so beware , they aren't great for little ones!

I was going to ask what the current situation is at DL.

Yup, crowd control CM's and CM ushers are the only ones wearing them. They sit in giant piles for sale and gathering dust in stores and carts near all the major nighttime venues; Fantasmic, World of Color, Mad T Party, etc.

They are heavy and clunky to wear. And unless a few thousand of your closest friends are also wearing them, they are rather pointless.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but you never know. It may work.
