I bought 2 for the kids at Fantasmic Friday night once I saw them.

Minor issue was we were all the way in the back -stage right and were out of range so they didn't work. Walked my son "to the bathroom" and they worked fine on the upper walkway.

First Disney wants to train us to wear a Magic Band and use it to identify ourselves and be granted entrance to special places not open to all. Now they want us to wear ears that light up on a command from Disney.
I can't help but think we are movie extras in a Disney Studios remake of "1984" or "Logans Run".

Ears must be in a direct "line of sight" with any of the emitters.

Small children standing in a tight crowd will need to be held-up.
MK ears will only work inside the hub and Main Street to Confectionary. Town Square is not an active area.

Illuminations would be great for it. I mean glow with the show is a cool concept but you don't really get the show if you buy them yourself, it's dependent on others wearing them around you. With Illuminations seeing others across the water glowing would be so cool and really add to an otherwise "meh" show. Don't get me wrong the first few times I saw Illuminations I was in awe, but after the Millennium celebration it kind of lost the awe for me.

I disagree... the effect needs a large mass of people to be effective. The problem at illuminations is you have a thin layer of people spread around the lagoon. People are only say.. 5-15 people deep. You lose the ability for the effect to move 'front to back' in that kind of setup.. you can only wipe left to right. Not saying it won't work.. but the setup like WoC actually is kind of the best.. a large wide and deep crowd so effects have a great field to work with. I'm sure the F! arena should be an ideal case as well.

I agree. Illuminations would only have limited effect. You would only see a single band of lights lighting up around the lagoon since it is not a stadium style setup. (Line of sight) F! was pretty cool, but as an earlier poster stated, and I saw for myself on 10/19/13, the effect loses something if a massive amount of people do not get the hats. Out of the 7,000 or so people in the F! arena maybe 200 had hats. The effect was neat, but greatly diminished. They should make these things ears only without the hat, and cheaper. That way the price could be in the $10.00 range and more people would purchase them.

I would like to find a way to hack this to use a different hat but also to light up the ears anywhere in the park. What is interesting is what people have found when they teared down the hats.

The ears do light up anywhere in the park. They just don't sync up with any music or other influences, yet.

I have read the tear down, didn't really see anything interesting, except maybe that they are IR controlled instead of RF.

The ears were blinking in time with the music..I am 150% sure it was MSEP :p
Coincidence.
There is an'idle mode' between shows, and exit music to Wishes, but nothing formally set for parades.

Incidently, also ready for Frozen when released later next month. :)
