Disney plans hiring freeze, some jobs cut......

It’s rare when that’s not the case. Do they have a pulse, can they fog a mirror, etc. The whole Disney only hires the “best” thing was obviously true when they opened, but that’s long gone. I’d also say that only hiring size 2s that look nice in a skirt wasn’t exactly a great screening process...

Disney plans hiring freeze, some jobs cut......

I mean you won’t be told that, but that’s exactly how it works. You just don’t hear about it because REITs don’t have their memos shared with the media. No business exists in a vacuum, if I’m a guy who has a nice little ice cream shop that makes good money but I overextend on a new car I buy...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Desantis stated there will be no more "groups" beyond age for the remainder of the rollout. Maybe the Federal sites could force his hand like the K-12 eligibility did, but if you take him at his word it'll just be a march down the age list until we get to whatever point he feels no longer...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

There's a ton of excess capacity in the state. I was truly shocked how easy it was to find appointments, and if you live in Jacksonville/Miami/Panhandle it's completely wide open. I'm not sure dropping the age by 5 is going to make much of an impact unless the DOH form is slowing medical folks...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

The OCCC site has been sending texts almost every day stating they still have additional appointments available. They're only doing healthcare and 65+, so to me that means they've started to see demand slip in those groups. I know that's only one location, but that seems to signal that anyone...

Disneyland "Sunsetting" annual passes, WDW next?

It's also a good comparison because I know that at least one of those two thinks about their passholders in a very similar way to DL. They absolutely love the gaudy guarenteed revenue, which is even more important on the ski side given that weather can wipe out the season, but they hate that...

Gideon's Bakehouse coming to Disney Springs

    1. It seems pretty clear this was Covid related 2. Disney likely has a gag order on any mentions of Covid closures from their tenants, assuming the tenant even wanted to be forthright (many businesses don't) 3. Gideon's made their business on social media/buzz, so they couldn't quietly close...

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

They’ll have plenty of company. Epic Universe on pause and more layoffs announced today. The bloodletting is just starting. www.orlandosentinel.com/business/tourism/os-bz-universal-layoffs-20200731-spkrzufc2fc3bpdbbyusgi3lxm-story.html%3foutputType=amp

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

Based on my experiences in the parks so far, they don't have the staffing level to handle an increase in attendance smoothly. So it becomes a balancing act of ing off the folks that are paying with longer lines and more stressful interactions just for the low spend guest.

On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

Orlando as a market is dead until at least Q3 2021, and that's assuming a vaccine or therapeutic is widely available by that point which is no guarantee. Everyone has been absolutely decimated, and those businesses foolish enough to reopen based on hope that demand would pick up once people saw...

    News EPCOT 2020 reopening reports

Went to Epcot last evening just to walk around and grab a food F&W items. Mask compliance just isn’t happening with this event and I didn’t see any effort from cast to do anything about it. I saw one of the CMs walking around with the “no eating or drinking while walking sign” and they weren’t...

News Magic Kingdom July 2020 reopening reports

Went to MK yesterday and compared to the AK preview day, mask and social distancing compliance was much much worse. Hard to know if that’s simply because there was a lot more people and I spent time in actual queues surrounded by more people to watch, or if it’s the difference between the...

News Disney's Animal Kingdom July 2020 reopening reports

There was a lot of closed stuff I would never do anyway, but seeing so many things boarded up is still a downer. It’s really bad in Africa compared to how much energy that area usually has on a normal day I’ve never been a big fan of mobile order, since it’s always seem so disorganized at...

News Disney's Animal Kingdom July 2020 reopening reports

My review after 6 hours in the park today, it’s a fine experience for pass holders but everyone else should cancel their plans and wait for more offerings to return. There is no life in the park and so many things are shuttered that it would be a bit depressing as a vacation. That’s ignoring the...

Do you think that Disney world will reclose its gates due to the rising number of COVID cases in Florida and around the country?

How an order is secured with a vendor. It's a poor indication to try to prove that Disney is planning to close, unless there is a lot more info behind it. The more likely reason POs have been cut/scaled back are that Disney doesn't know what to expect and margins are so poor that they can't...

    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

I think you all are giving the "twitter mobs" way too much credit. Are we really thinking no one internally had concerns about the ride prior to the petition circulating recently? I'm sure there were plenty of folks inside the company that were concerned with having a marquee attraction tied to...

    Splash Mountain re-theme announced

I think you all are significantly underestimating how many guests are aware of Song of the South being the basis of these characters. That connection is more untenable every day, and for good reason. It is probably my favorite attraction at Disney, but I'm not going to pretend that just because...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

The concern, in my mind anyway, is that guests aren't teleporting into the Disney bubble, spending their whole trip inside that "bubble", and then magically back in the safety of their homes. Disney being open increases tourist activity across the region (I know, duh) and a lot of the people...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Unfortunately Disney is not coming even close to this level of enforcement based on what I've seen at Springs during my visits so far. Other than the occasional manager, absolutely no one has enforced the mask rule beyond the entrance. On a recent Saturday night there were large groups of people...

News Disney Springs Begins Phased Reopening on May 20

Stopped by for a walk this morning, and it was definitely busier than recent photos had shown. You won’t confuse it for a pre-Covid Springs, but it was far from a ghost town by 11am. World of Disney had too many folks inside for my preferences, distancing was not possible walking through the...
