Nick "StormTrooper" Bautista - McNaughton 500 Mile Race Report

Sounds like we're finding out the machine may have some sort of (super) limits to him. Good thoughts his way....only he could be going through all that and keep his legs moving. It's like his failsafe gear...."Run"

    Taking photos during the race

I have a small Canon point and shoot as well. I attached a wrist strap to it, and carry it in one hand. That way, I don't have it bouncing in my spibelt, and I can take pictures on the fly.

    Ultra-stupid host resort question...

I'll stress that if you are running a race that has "host" resorts - make sure you use one of them. We stayed at PoR when we ran the Evererst challenge. We had to go from a park to a host resort, then back to a park, then to our hotel to get to the expo. Then when we got done with the race, we...

What accessories do you run with?

Exactly. Mine has the fact I'm allergic to Bees and a antibiotic. It also lists my address and 2 emergency numbers of people that would know my medical needs if I were ever found unable to respond.

What accessories do you run with?

I run with a Spibelt with GU hooks that I can put my fuel in on longer runs. Inside the belt, I keep my phone that runs my runkeeper app. I don't like running with fluids on me, so if I run longer than 6 miles, I plan to run past a convenience store that I can get a quick shot of water or...

Have you ever run races on consecutive days, weeks?

Yeah...I did 7 half marathons last year, and 10 or 11 races total....I was busy, particularly in May, June, and September. On 3 separate occasions I ran on back-to-back weekends, with only 6 or 7 days between events. Running races close together isn't a huge deal, you just need to be aware that...

    What did you do?

Crazylegs 8k in Madison, WI this morning. It's a huge race, with like 50+ small corrals. We were in Corral RR, as we had not run that race previously. We finished the 5.18 miles with a 10:47 pace, which is pretty standard for us. It felt good to run almost all of it, and we seem to have shaken...

How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Enjoy Running

I get every 6th weekend off, and I do everything in my power to make my races work. Once you get that raceday drug in you, it's hard to get rid of.

    What did you do?

I'll say this about Tough Mudder. I ran it last year, and it is very well done. It's well manned, and they have a lot of safety precautions on hand. However, I almost had a bad experience with the same obstacle. I ran with a fellow Officer last year. When we got to "walk the plank", which is the...

    What did you do?

We ran the Oshkosh, WI 1/2 Marathon today. The temp was in the low to mid 30's for the entire race, and it was windy as heck. We went out strong, and were 5-7 minutes ahead of our goal for the race. Fast, but not so fast as it caused concern. About Mile 6, my wife pulled up and said that...

    Boston marathon

I worked last night, so really didn't get a chance to sit down at a computer until today. I posted this on my facebook wall, but thought I'd repost here, as it's my thoughts on the event. I still can't believe what happened in Boston yesterday. I've struggled to put into words what I feel...

    KT Tape

I'll vouch for that...the pro can last for days. I tend not to wear it past race day, and the pro is actually difficult to remove if you try and remove it same day.

chocolate milk recovery( myth, or truth?)

They have handed it out after a few of the half marathons around here as well. I live in the dairy state, so it'll be pushed anyway, but it does taste fantastic, even if it's hot out.

When to eat a meal before running the tower of terror ten miler

Actually we went to Via Napoli the night before the race, and had pizza. That's a proven method for us, and never caused us issues before, so we stuck with it. The ADR at Hacienda de San Angel the night OF the race is what killed me.

Exactly. If you want to read what NOT to do on race day evening, read my race report from last year.

When to eat a meal before running the tower of terror ten miler

Last year, I had a create your own pasta at about 11:00 am at POR. I think something to consider is the weather. If it's going to be warm, like last year, the focus should be on hydration, as it is only 10 miles, and you really don't need a super-carb meal.
