Ultra-stupid host resort question...

Okay, so when looking at host resorts for some of the race weekends, why do they differentiate between villa rooms and regular rooms for some of the resorts? For example: Yacht & Beach would be a host resort, but Beach Club Villas is not a host resort...is it just depending on what kinds of packages they want to sell? Transportation would be okay, right? By that I mean I could book a room at BCV but still use the race transportation at Beach Club as long as I know where the bus picks up/drops off...

I feel dumb for asking, just wanted to make sure...

Thanks!

You don't even need to actually be staying at that resort. I've picked up the bus at the Beach/Yacht club when I've been staying at POFQ after spending the day in Epcot/DHS instead of going back to POFQ just to get on another bus.

runDisney most likely feels that they wouldn't book enough villa units to consider it to be a host resort. So they wouldn't really get any sort of discount from reservations for booking a block of rooms like they do at the other host resorts. (If a given race is offering such a discount) Also, DV(C/D) only owns a fraction of the points at any given resort, so they don't really have property to rent in any quantity. When they only own less than 1 out of every 10 rooms (AKL DVD has declared 93.91% of the rooms, so there its almost 1 in 20) it's really hard to get any sort of block allocated.

I would also worry about availability. BC is quite popular due to its location and the DVC booking rates are pretty high.

Your transportation would be fine.

It has to do with resort room inventory and who controls it.
Thank you! I mean...I KNEW that, but then I started to doubt myself. Glad to get confirmation. :)
Oh trust me, if we could buy a contract outright - no financing - I'd do it in a heartbeat. The though part would be getting the husband on board. Maybe someday...

Yeah, I should have known. It's not like they ask to see your resort ID or anything.

Yeah, especially since I'm looking into the Wine & Dine half - i.e. during the Food & Wine Festival. I was hoping to rent points so I'm pretty sure Beach Club and Boardwalk will be off the table (and have been for some time). I guess I need to actually get my husband to agree to the trip before I start worrying about that though...

Thanks guys!!!

Not a dumb question - but I think I have one...what makes a resort a Host resort? I thought all resorts provide transportation to the race. Is this incorrect? This is my first race.

Disney designates the "host" resorts. They usually pick a value or two, a moderate and a deluxe resort. It seems as these races become more popular they sometimes add more hotels. For the marathon weekend in January, all resorts are host resorts. If there are only certain resorts designated as host resorts, they are the only ones that provide transportation to the races.

All resorts provide transportation during Marathon Weekend in January and the Princess Half weekend in February...I was asking for Wine and Dine weekend in November. Only a few resorts (the host resorts) provide transportation for that race.

I'll stress that if you are running a race that has "host" resorts - make sure you use one of them. We stayed at PoR when we ran the Evererst challenge. We had to go from a park to a host resort, then back to a park, then to our hotel to get to the expo. Then when we got done with the race, we took a bus to Pop Century, then a bus to Downtown Disney, then a bus to POR. It was a pain. I'll only stay at host resorts from now on.

Most definitely. Your route back sounds like a giant pain in the you-know-what...especially at night when I'm sure all you wanted to do was sleep. I guess the host resort thing is really an issue for all of the race weekends except the ones at Disneyland, Marathon Weekend and Princess Half Marathon Weekend...for now.
