Having just done this yesterday, I can confirm that what you described is correct - the ramp up to the monorail is still within the security perimeter even though you don't think much about it because the space is so wide open.

Which is one reason why we are now located within 30 minutes of WDW. (Would be much shorter if we didn't have to drive on I4.) Granted it is not the main reason (job relocation, then selection), but it sure was a discussion point.
