I like the old one better

I think you perfectly summed up these forums with that statement.

I feel I'm always going contrarian, but I like it just a tad more than the original.

As a train station, the word "the" is seldom used in naming, I'm having a hard time thinking of one. Granted, the name is for the park, but the sign is tied to the station itself.

My friends always still say... I'm going to Disney World. I always ask... which park? They always respond... "Disney". I say... you mean Magic Kingdom. I guess having "The" missing doesn't make too much of a difference for me.:)

Gosh, I do so wish that my life was so uncomplicated that I could find one single, solitary reason to give half a crap. But, as said by someone... not getting dramatic or anything. BTW, it's OK to like something or not like something, but, where it gets ridiculous is when it gets all laced with the non-existent drama. It's a sign, it tells you were you are. If you want to say it as 'The Magic Kingdom' no one is going to stop you. When that was all that was there, it was saying.. you have reached The (pronounced thee) Magic Kingdom. You don't say The Walt Disney World in the name do you? You don't say The Epcot, The Fantasyland, The Adventureland, The Spaceship Earth, The whatever your name is, do you? As far as the stuff listed on either end, how can anyone care. It is meaningless information. It was, however, est. in 1971.

Edit to correct a typo.

It could be even worse -- there could be a gecko with a speech bubble saying "Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on your car insurance" right alongside the sign.

I've always read it as the official sign of the park -- the railroad station apparently doesn't have an official name, being labeled on maps as "Walt Disney World® Railroad" at this and the other two stations.

My guess: one or more of the suits got confused, since the Magic Kingdom is marked "Magic Kingdom" on all the official paperwork. When they saw the sign saying "The Magic Kingdom," their brilliantly focused intellects couldn't handle the dissonance. And it had the added benefit of saving money by leaving off the extraneous lettering.
