Sounds like a human mistake. Note the grip held on so forcefully that it pulled the haul rope off 10 sheaves before detaching.

Haul rope is on for the Pop/AoA line. Here's something bizarre though. Tower 12 appears to have been taken down. It's the last one before the return terminal. Was standing last week. Now sitting on a barge.

Last one was in 1976.

Doppelmayr has done this on other lifts in warm climates. They must have found it helps with air flow. The side with three windows is the front. The side with two is the back. The tower side has only one and it looks like the door windows do not open. The video below purports to show this...
