    What to collect, now?

We collect mugs and Christmas decorations. We have enough mugs to serve a battalion and enough decorations for 3 or 4 trees but we still collect them.

    Best length of stay

It depends where you are coming from (e.g. Europe or the USA) We live in the USA and tend to stay 7 or 8 days.

    Hotels water supply

I have found the sulfur smell in the water in both Orlando and Jacksonville. I do not know if this is a Florida thing or not. Maybe it's me I tend to be able to detect "foreign" smells since I did a tour in Vietnam. Different cultures have different smells. My DW says I can smell a dog fart on...

    Grand Floridian stay?

I had to laugh about your worrying to “fit in.” When my DS was little he was worried he would not fit in after we told him we were staying there. He put up a fight for the Contemporary or the Wilderness Lodge, however this was a special trip for my DW as she was cancer free and the GF was her...

ADRs are in, touring plans developed, attractions researched...now I have to wait for Sept FP+ reservations

In my case over the next 2 to 2 and half months I would develop a spreadsheet of everything going into my suitcase. I would be checking everything to see what I am missing, what needs to be replaced, stockpiling toiletries etc. I would do at least one practice packing in August to make sure...

Unmagical Day at the Magic Kingdom

There is an "it" missing. When ever I deployed my DW always gave me the standard military wife instructions. Do not being home anything I can not cook of play with.

Unmagical Day at the Magic Kingdom

I liken it to herpes, it just never goes away.

Animal Kingdom Lodge vs. Yacht Club (Suprise We're Going to Beach Club)

We stayed at AKL once, it was nice with a good pool and some great restaurants, but it seemed a little distant from everything else. We stayed at the Yacht Club last fall and loved it. It has a great pool the rooms were a little bigger than AKL or WL. YC is close to the restaurants around...

Weird Ask... Where do yall get sources? I don't really have a good one and want one.

The current addition of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (e.g. 2019) works for me. When in doubt read the manual.

    Advice - Animal Kingdom Lodge

WE stayed at the AKL once. The pool was great, Boma and Jiko are great restaurants, we have not eaten at the Indian themed restaurant yet. It was great to look out and see the animals. The only downside was when we opened the slider the smell reminded me of being on the farm when I was a kid.

    Solo Trip

First, I do solo trips when I travel to Orlando for work. It is rather nice to be by myself. I see and do what I want at my own pace, and maybe enjoy a few adult beverages without my DW to comment, but I digress. Second, we have stayed at every resort listed except the Beach Club. Each has its...

Would you pay $226 for a souvenir?

No, but I’m an old fart. I believe I spent about the same amount of money, $225.00, on my first car and $37,500.00 on my first house. My DW is the same way, she looks at the “bags” and says, “No way.” Our souvenirs tend to be Christmas tree ornaments. We are up to three trees to display them...

    Checking on Signature restaurant quality

I must agree with everyone else the quality of the signature restaurants has dropped off significantly since circa 2009 with the advent of free dinning. Dinning at signature restaurants is now a hit or miss proposition. I had a great meal at Yachtsman last trip however Le Cellier and Artist...

    Carousel of Progress appreciation thread

Yes, I still love it, the first time I saw it was at the New York World's Fair circa 1964. CoP, the GM pavilion and Mr. Lincoln along with a Belgian waffle were “must dos.”

How long will you enjoy theme parks, or how long DID you enjoy the rides?

On the road of life, I see exit 70 approaching. That said we have been visiting WDW regularly since 1994. I would like to think we will continue to vacation there. We tend to visit more of the tamer attractions now, I have a new-found appreciation for the country bears jamboree and when I visit...

Trip Report A Short Father & Son Visit to the World

I had to go to Orlando for business. I always stay an extra day or two to get my WDW fix and my DW is fine with it. Our DS had just come home from college after finishing his junior year. He is as big a Disney fan as his dad and was not pleased that I was going to visit WDW without him. He...

    Heat and humidity tips

Hydrate wear a hat and stop and take a break at regular intervals. If you remember as “Dave” always said “when you see a bench, stop, sit down and relax.”

    A Magical GF Surprise

We went from (then) Dixie landing to the Contemporary, to the Wilderness Lodge. My DW always wanted to stay at GF so for our 4th trip we did. My DW loved it. We did Victoria & Albert which was wonderful, every subsequent trip she always voted for the GF when we planned WDW vacations.
