Trip Report The (second) ONE with enhanced cleaning and (a little less) Physical Distancing. Sept 2020

How is everyone doing out there???

A little background on this trip. This trip was origionally booked as a Food and Wine/Birthday girls getaway with two of my friends. We booked The Poly at 7 months Thursday through Sunday. (One friend’s bday was Thurs, the other was Sunday! Sooooo perfect!!!)
Buuuuut, they are both teachers and were not allowed to go. (Read that again. Not Allowed☹️)
I had the reservation and I wanted to go. My friend, R and I had a trip in April we had canceled. We had rescheduled for October to do a Halloween party (Nope!) and a DVC moonlight madness (Nope again). Then, she lost her job😞 so she came back to work with me. Her Mom, Gpa and Uncle own the business.
“Hey R, want to go to Disney in September instead?”
“Yeah!”
“Should we add a night? I still have 18 points I can use.”
“Yeah”
“Do you think we can get the extra day off?”
She looks at me. I look at her. 😂😂😂
I mean, her Mom makes the schedule.

She booked her flight, bought her park tickets, made her park reservations and we were set.

Tuesday night, September 15th I caught the sunset and headed to bed for an early start the next morning.

Wednesday, September 16 came early. R’s Gma was flying back to Ft Lauderdale an hour before our flight. So we all went together to help her out.

We were not sitting together because our flights were booked seperately. I asked to move us together but I asked on the late side and it was a no go. It was fine. We watched movies. I love Jet Blue TV’s!

Yay! The sign said 45 minute wait. The woman who checked us in pointed out the sign and said it “could” take 45 minutes.

Overheard on the ME: “Mom, I dont want to go to the Magic Kingdom!”
“Where do you want to go?”
“Legoland!!”
Haha😂
Lets check the weather...

Back of the bus. Not a 45 minute wait but about 20.

Too far in the back of the bus to get THE SIGN. How about the side of the road? Almost as good???

For the record, we went to Wilderness Lodge, BLT, the Contemporary and then The Polynesian.

We finally made it and were ready to let the fun begin!!

Can Wednesday Sept 16th just be over already???

As I was putting our groceries away I noticed the fridge was not cold. Not even a little bit. Ok, I thought, perhaps as part of their enhanced cleaning they have the door open a long time to give it a good scrubbing. I thought I would just fiddle with the temperature control protruding device (can not say k n o b) and check it in the morning. But there was no temperature control protruding device. Also, the entire back of the fridge was iced up.

giphy.gif

I was less than happy.
Me: “R! Didn't Lawrence promise us the best room?”
R: “I dont think so. That was all you.”
Me:

giphy.gif

Anywhooo, I called housekeeping and someone brought us a new fridge. She was swapping it out and I was making the sofa bed and she asked if I wanted her to do it.

Get out!
Get out!
Get out!
We were so tired and I was put off by my Poly experience thus far!
I just wanted to go to sleep.

Later that night I learned something. Something I will never forget.
R snores....

I could not wait to get out of bed. I think I slept 3 hours. R’s snoring either subsides around 3am or I am so tired I can finally sleep through it. I actually contemplated going to sleep in the tub. Delirious I was!

But the sun was out, I wasn’t at work, the kids were not asking me for anything (yet). It was going to be a fabulous day!!!

I dont drink coffee. But it was not too early for diet pepsi. I really needed the caffeine!

I showered. Guess what? The shower was broken. Yeah, it was broken. A) the temp control handle was broken. I took a video, but I have no idea how to get it over here. Anyhow, the handle starts at about 5:00. You turn it counter clockwise to turn it on. The more closkwise you go the hotter the water gets. 10:00 is still a little cold. 9:00 is just on the border of too hot but if you want a hot shower, as sleep deprived me did, then turn the handle to 9:00. However, gravity will quickly take over and the handle will fall to the 6:30 ish position delivering scalding hot water. Ouch🔥🚿
And B) the scalding hot water was all around my feet because, yup, the drain was broken. I tried to make the drain opening bigger and the stopper came out in my hand. 🤦🏼‍♀️
Good morning from The Polynesian!

I was complaining about the shower to R as we ate breakfast on the balcony and she said the kitchen sink was broken too.
WHAT!?!
(This part is a little embarrassing on my part but I have to keep it real)
I go in and turn the lever first right then left.
Nothing!
“How the heck are they enhance cleaning without water?!”

We made our way to the Great Ceremonial House to catch the monorail to the MK.

I went straight to the front desk. My buddy Lawrence was there.
“Hi, remember us from yesterday? You were going to give us the best room? Well....you didnt. There are a couple issues.”
He grabbed a post it.
Me: “Get a bigger piece of paper Lawrence.”
I went through the issues and even told him about the fridge we had to have swapped out. I told him we would be out all day and we would appreciate it if the items could be fixed before we got back.”

Next we headed upstairs to catch the monorail. It was about 8:20am.
A very rude CM (are you seeing a Poly pattern here?) asked where we were going. We said Magic Kingdom.
“That monorail doesn't start running until 8:30.”
We look at the time on our phones, look at him, look at the monorail sitting in the station with it’s doors open, and walked away.

R and I wandered a little bit. She had not seen much of the place the day before. Boutiki was not open but we strolled back to captain cooks to see how it was going. We passed this
B36C1B6D-3F83-47F4-A058-E94920EA9339.jpeg

“I love her!”
“Who is she?”
“Annette Funichello.”
“Who?”
😒
We took a peak at the pool.
9E96A6F0-13E7-4FAC-B105-30AB468959FD.jpeg

We retuned to the monorail gate keeper. Again he told is the monorail doesn't start running until 8:30.
I said, “It’s 8:28. Shouldnt it be loaded so it can leave at 8:30?”
Meanwhile there were people onboard and yes, it was the same monorail that had been sitting there at 8:20.
R and I got our own half cabin.
First monorail ride if the trip. Let’s take a picture!

Let’s do that again so we can see how great these “barriers” work to physically distance parties.

“Where to first?” I asked R.
“Seven Dwarfs? By way of the castle?”

7DMT was a 10 minute wait!
R pointed out this sign in the queue. In a deadpan voice she said, “Maybe we need to try that with our kitchen faucet.”

I had already switched out of my hot Disney mask and into my air conditioned disposable mask. The weather was beautiful. Some may say hot. I say, “it’s not snowing!”

Next up was Peter Pan. Actually we were headed to Splash Mountain but Peter said 10 minutes. Peter lied. It was more like 3.5.
I have never been in the queue. Not in like...not in like ever!

These reminded us of the paintings in our (bath)room. (You know, the one with the shower that spurts fire-THAT should have been my TR title! Missed opportunity)

Next was Splash Mountain. I was happy I could do this as I had missed it in August.
Posted at 10 minutes but it was just the time it took to walk the queue, which coincidentally is about 10 minutes when you are savoring it.

We did get somewhat wet. Not drenched. It was a comfortable wet. The day was young and the sun was still rising. All was good.
Next up was Big Thunder! It was posted 10 minutes but was just the walk.

I honestly would never have noticed your forehead if you hadn't specifically mentioned it. I don't think you have anything to worry about. You look amazing. I guess we all have things about our appearance that we'd like to change, and a lot of those things people aren't even looking at. I'm just excited to get to live vicariously through you with your pictures!

Maybe it just seemed darker since you went through the queue so fast and your eyes didn’t have time to adjust? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also just say no the Bo! I know all have stuff we feel self conscious about but seriously your forehead is fine. And you don’t want to roll those dice on if the Botox looks natural or not:

Yes. Despite our challenges (more to come) it is a nice room. When the resort is running as it should be: monorail, bars, restaurants, nice CM’s, fireworks, pool bars, ( I know I said bars twice but...) it really is a great place to stay. For now, there are other resorts with more to offer.
Heh, heh, heh, you said bars twice...

P.S. Sorry to be so incredibly late. I've been under a rock three time zones away avoiding all the bad air from the wildfires.
