Once again another duo of well-crafted, strongly animated, stylistically strong, well-acted, and well-done episodes of Pixar’s #WinOrLose on Disney+, both of which make good use of Pixar’s new 2D animation pipeline after its intro in #InsideOut2 with Bloofy. Ira’s episode is real heartwarming. But Yuwen’s episode, aw man, did it make me feel sorry for him to have his heart break after thinking he won at finding love.
Can’t wait for the 2-episode finale next week.
Might feel weird knowing the episode about Kai will have been reworked for obvious real-world-related reasons, but I still plan to check them out because so far it’s been super fun and creative.

Watched the whole series over the last 2 days and loved how it focused one episode from each characters perspective.
Very relatable on many levels, I love that it all came together at the end and also love that you don’t find out who won, I actually went back and rewatched the end thinking I may have missed it, the fact it ultimately doesn’t matter was a great finish since the series dealt with internal struggles rather than winning or losing.
I laughed reading this thread before posting because I honestly thought the coaches daughter, who’d cut her bangs off, was the trans kid who’d had their story changed, I thought that watching the whole series.
Hope we get more like this on D+ because it was a good story.

Loved this series overall. Excellent Pixar storytelling.
The penultimate episode featured the changed storyline.
I could not tell whatsoever leading up to it, simply because the character is often on the side; though that's somewhat true of most of the characters until they actually got their episode.
But entering the episode, I definitely noticed. It wasn't a bad episode, probably the weakest. There was overtly a few minutes of missing footage (the episode was 16 minutes instead of 19) and then some beats were changed. They've barely left enough and I don't think the clues about the character being trans are sufficiently obvious, but it is there. Just there is something completely 'unsaid' the entire episode.
Every other episode I felt like we got to know the character and Kai in having to hide the character so much, they lost the inner workings of their struggles that made all the other episodes so great. The sprained ankle storyline didn't really have payoff and was clearly edited in as the hook after the fact. Instead of the episode having been seriously changed, I think they mostly engaged in hiding it.
For anyone who wants the read on what I see as change -

You can see evidence of it though in the opener. Kai was male at birth, left another school due to bullying. I think they changed their name or something as there is a lot of wistful lingering shots on her name on things that her Dad and her engage in. She goes around her grandmothers at the start of the episode removing all the old pictures of her on the wall (when she was dressed as a boy). Suddenly she connects with peers who like baseball and that turned into an outlet for her dad to reconnect with her. There's that scene lingering still where they cry together, the dad mumbles something about how she used to love baseball. The Dad kind of realizes even though she's different presenting, she's the same person.
Time passes, she was accepted more for who they were, grew their hair out. She really overtly leans into feminine dressing in this year passage of time, starts wearing makeup. Gets invited to the girls sleepover, which was probably a slightly bigger deal in the original. This is where some footage about being increasingly comfortable in her own skin now was subbed for the ankle subplot that sort of doesn't go anywhere.

Interestingly, they state in the comments that the show was 100% complete since 2023 and it was only in December 2024 when Disney gave the no-go decision (which tracks based on some scenes seemingly making little sense in the actual episode).

#7 When Kai meets Pickles, it was the first time she used her chosen name, and we learn Hannah is non binary.
Sounds like your everyday little league baseball team around the country. Super common. Oh and the trans player is the best athlete on the team right? And what age are these kids supposed to be again? The vibe I got in the few scenes I saw was that they were anywhere from 10-13 years old?

People don’t understand how much this alienates people.
Whatever your views are on whatever random thing, it is overwhelmingly going to turn off international audiences and half the country.
That’s not a winning business strategy.
