I somehow tuned out since I visited in March and am like wow look at all these DtD projects I didn't even really know about. The Lululemon and Earl of Sandwich.

Meanwhile Porto's is officially the new Cake Bake Shop.

Looks like they re redoing the old DTD security entrance too. They re finally giving it a permanent look and most likely matching the mid century aesthetic of the new DTD entrance. If they care anything about making DLR feel like a resort one thing they should do is at least dedicate a lane or two for Disneyland Hotel guests. We walked out of the DL hotel and were greeted with a “mile long” line of people trying to get into DTD on a Friday night. Had to walk towards the Simba lot to reach the end of that line. Kind of a buzz kill.

Giving away my secret but you can walk around to the security entrance that people who walk in from the parking garages use. We did that after going to the run expo and the line was much shorter.

Oh ya we use that one often but it didn’t occur to me to use it that night. Tbh the line as it was went pretty fast. It’s just kind of a buzz kill to walk out of your hotel and instead of walking through the security right in front of you you have to turn right and head to the back of the line halfway back to the Simba lot. I don’t get - Pixar Pier had their own private entrance but the DL hotel can even have a dedicated lane or two at just one of the three DTD security entrances on that side?

Well the idea was that security gate was to be used primarily for DLH guests, but they didn't actually block it off to make it dedicated. This was even discussed briefly when they were redoing it in the DTD thread I believe. So when the regular DTD security gets backed up everyone just heads over to that one, or bypasses regular DTD security entirely and just go right to that one.

Ok, you've got my curiosity. Who else besides DLH guests and conventioneers use that security entrance? Is that enough people to make it busy, which it usually seems to be?

Right I just thought at the very least temporarily a dedicated lane or two at the security check by the hotel. I’m not sure they’ll ever make that a private entrance for the DLA Hotel as the other entrance can get very backed up when it’s busy. Anyway, whatever they do it won’t really matter to me. It wasn’t there when I needed it haha.

Agree. The security straight up sucks other than mid day.

They need to have the wave scanners that WDW uses and I’m not sure what the hold up is.

Anyone and everyone. Its not a dedicated entrance so anyone can use it. And as its literally steps away from the regular DTD entrance, people will just bypass that and go right to the DLH one.

Maybe in the mornings they should, especially now that they are getting rid of early entry.

I seem to remember someone here saying that the local security union pushes back against the use of said scanners, concerned they may replace some manned positions.

If True that’s crazy to me that they can force their will even when technological advancements in security are not only likely safer but also are much better for guest experience. At a certain point Disney needs to put their foot down.

If I remember the discussion that was had at the time in the security threads, the idea was that the Evolv system doesn't necessarily catch everything. And that its not really as effective as many think compared to hand searches and traditional metal detectors currently used at DLR.

So the question is is the few extra minutes you save waiting in line at security worth the potential risk to guest safety if the system doesn't catch what its suppose to?

I find that hard to believe. When I was at the DL hotel trying to get through security that mile long line only took 6-7 minutes to get through. Why do you think that is? They wanted to push people through as fast as possible. If they were to check bags the way they usually check at the Harbor entrance when we arrive around noon on Sundays that same line would have taken over an hour.

I've never waited an hour at the Harbor entrance, ever. Also I've used that DLH entrance, as recent as July, and they were doing standard bag check. Maybe you got lucky and they didn't the times you went through.

Also the FTC investigated Evolve for misrepresenting the effectiveness of the system, which is probably the reason why any plan TDA had didn't move forward with them.

My point is their process leaves a lot of room for human error. They speed up or slow down the process depending on how many people they have in line.

No system is flawless, and human error does happen. But if the automated system they were considering is prone to issues I rather have a little extra inconvenience than the potential for actual issues with guest safety. Plus its really then no more effective than human searches, so there is that too.

Also call me crazy, but a system that allows for speeding up and slowing down (even if human driven) based on line length is better for the overall guest experience rather than being locked into a system that isn't flexible such as the automated one that was considered.
