This talk of forfeiting dinosaurs is stupid. Dinosaurs are not just Jurassic Park. Disney was telling a much different story than Jurassic Park, and Dinoland was not anywhere near the same. Just because one theme park has dinosaurs doesn't mean another one 40 min away can't have dinosaurs. This is a ridiculous premise.
They had a ride where the thrill was navigating a dark jungle coming face to face with a ferocious dino. It was in a very similar vibe to Jurassic/Unversal's bread and butter. The rest was a goofy cookie cutter flat and a basic carnival coaster void of any meaningful backstory, even that aesthetic didn't truly fit. The anchor attraction had Jurassic Park vibes. It was always going to be compared to the more successful offerings in the Universal parks because Disney didn't deviate enough from their formula. Dig site notwithstanding, Disney's more successful Dino entry was in the yesteryear of EPCOT.

I do think the land had tons of potential, but they squandered it. So now, Indy and Encanto.

It's not the dinosaur theme that was the problem. It was its execution. A crappy mobile midway just isn't the right fit for a Disney theme park.
Sure, I agree with that. But the money was not there for it at the time and the smart idea for them wasn't to gamble again on an idea proven to not work and be compared to their rival, it was to do something new and fresh based on what modern audiences ACTUALLY wanted.

Anyone who says "Indy doesn't fit", just doesn't make sense. His is about the only IP that fits anywhere. He's an archeologist, meaning worldwide. For goodness sake, the Raiders prelude was in Peru which fits right in with Tropical Americas.

Tell that to everyone who still compared the two. The fans compared the two, Disney decided it was best to do something different. Like I said, Princesses aren't just Disney but Disney did them so well Universal stopped trying to do their own princesses and doesn't make rides based on them.

Ice Age would be a great IP to have a ride based off if they wanted to do another extinct animal land imo. (I would prefer it to be confined to 1-2 attractions with an additional 1-2 attractions that have no IP.)
