Rumor New Monorails Coming Soon?

Sorry... I should have been more clear. I don’t think the contemporary station needs to be made taller. But it might need to be reworked to accommodate a fully upgraded monorail system.

New trains with new, level boarding, really should be a no-brainer. Expensive? Yes. So were the new flyovers built at the entrance to MK parking. But they were needed and make everything safer and more enjoyable for both guests and cast members.

Parking makes $$$. They had a leak they needed to plug and got the bonus of building enough capacity for years to come.

Disney has recently used buses to supplement TTC to MK. Disney appears to be getting for direct top deck loading and uploading ferry boats. EEffectively increasing number of guests per hour.

Walkway from GF and POLY is open. Disney could increase number and frequently of boat fleet.

Just had this thought as to a possible reason why TWDC won’t fork over the investment to bring these up to code, or buy new trains- maybe it’s like when your about to sell your own home, you don’t want to invest in things like a new roof- cause you know it’s money out of your pocket that you might not be able to recoup on sale day…
Unless they can figure out a way to monetize these things, they aren’t going to do a thing with them…

I think the problem with the Monorail is that it's at a point to where if you sold tickets that it still wouldn't cover the cost of purchasing new trains (or a full refurbishments) - so there they sit.

I bet he would like to sell tickets to the ferries (and monorails and even buses). Maybe if you're staying on site you get a per-visit price (per head, of course) and if you're not then you just pay per-day (because they're trying to encourage you to "go green" - remember that??)

I bet we see transportation fees sooner than later. Show me something they haven't figured out how to sell or cut besides this.

From a conversation I had with a pilots few years ago, my understanding is that it’s capable of running fully automatically, but that pilots are present to supervise the computer as it were, and to take over in case of a malfunction. I assume they still have to run manually a certain percentage of the time as well to keep their skills up.

That may be the case, but the Las Vegas Monorail System does not rely on pilots or station attendants - it is a fully automated system. So the concept is no unheard of.

Nobody ever said it was. Disney just did not want a fully automated system. For multiple reasons.

I’ve maintained for about 20 years that they have zero intention to replace those trains…because they have zero desire to replace the tracks. Im still waiting to be proven wrong.
Even with the poly station rebuild…which is minor in comparison…I see no such desire.


I also said you’d miss him when he was gone and Bob would have less and less “shine”…unlike chapek’s head.

Which is why it knocks Iger down a peg. He did one of the things he was allowed to take over to prevent: no strong corporate structure. As bad or 99% worse than Eisner. Eisner had hacks…what Bob left looks like what the hacks “hacked up” and left on the road side.

One needs to look at the big picture with Iger. We park lovers get upset because he didn't do enough directly for the parks, but he built Disney up in strength that can only be measured if some group decided that they want to buy the parks (i.e. The Disney Company) and cut them up for parts. The strength that Iger built by expanding the footprint of the over all company and shoring up the stock value could very well be invaluable. We have to remember that the Disney Company is far more than just the parks. Time will tell, but I feel that Chapek will give you a lot more for the parks then Iger ever did, but he will be more inclined to do it on the cheap.

Disney was not at risk of a hostile takeover in 2005, but Iger is the one who wanted to sell off the parks.
