Your timetable is a bit different so hard to compare. Delta hit and you guys added on a lot more restrictions (pretty much a total lockdown in ON as you know) after removing some earlier, mostly because you didn't have the vaccine and apparently had a lot of hospital capacity issues. Now you do have the vaccines. The best thing you have going is that the vaccination rates are high compared to the US and others.

Aside from a few sporting events has any vaccine passport been utilized anywhere in the USA where they are legal to incentivize vaccination? It's not like places like NY have that much higher share of the population vaccinated than Florida.

Canada vaccine rates are flattening, but at a higher level than many other places. I hear from some people there are specifically trying to stay away from the Moderna shot though? Don't know why...even so, looks good.

People are staying away from the Moderna one due to most having Pfizer for their first dose and don't want to mix. I suspect vaccinations to go back up now that Pfizer's shipment came in

Yeah, you had a full-on lockdown once delta starting raging, lol.

Whether people want to admit it or not, the circumstances here for when Delta hit are a different. Most notably, the vaccine being readily available and how that aligned with Delta (we can talk about the population and what they are willing to accept, etc. as well). I don't think we would have seen Ontario going into the restrictions they did if the vaccine was very much available during that time. Probably some for sure, but not as hard. What you did late winter and into spring was a really hard lock for a long time...not long after coming out from a lockdown.

I do also wonder, with the studies showing a much stronger antibody response after a longer interval between 1st and 2nd dose, and our high uptake, if it really was a better strategy in the end.

Based on our numbers now, it seems to be paying off despite the wait between doses.

Perhaps we all have much stronger protection with 2 doses then places like America that did the 3-4 week interval?

Have to wait and see how delta behaves here.

Capacity limits on a few things like casinos and movie theatres. Outside of that masks are mandatory for indoors for now. Once we hit 75% fully vaccinated all mitigations will be dropped. We are at 67% now so by some time in August everything should be back to normal.

It is paying off it seems mostly because you have less people who are hesitant of getting the vaccine.

Also, let's admit the strategy you took was pretty much forced on the people because the prescribed 3-4 week interval really wasn't available... due to the significant supply issues in the beginning. The people seem to be bailing the government out given their willingness to take the shot.

And, intervals aside, I am just glad it is available.

Oh I agree, and the strategy was needed to get first doses out faster at the time.

But with the data showing that it’s a better response if you wait longer, I think it becomes a great and perhaps unexpected result.

Now with Delta making first doses even less protective, I don’t know if I’d recommend a country with a lot of delta and a big outbreak do the same…

Either way what happened worked to keep our cases low now that people are vaccinated. What also helps here is once masks are dropped I doubt there will be back tracking to bring them back.

Masks here in BC are now only a recommendation for those 12+ who are not fully vaccinated.

I can technically go to a store and no longer have to wear a mask… but I still do 😅

I am sure they will have an uptick eventually, especially as they go back to full capacity everyone and people travel more. Their higher vaccination rate by then SHOULD be helpful though.
