I went to my doctor today to discuss my concerns with side effects... he told me “well they’ve put us in a really awkward place. We are supposed to tell everyone to get the vaccine no matter what. And then when people come to us with side effects we are just supposed to say yeah that happens”

He also told me he didn’t think I had any real reason to worry since it’s been several weeks, he said they usually present themselves in the first week.

I think it’s wrong the way the media and people on this forum are shaming people into getting a vaccine.

With covid , there were no fans in stands in other sports and the seats were covered with tarp covering . Pre covid , the Jags were so bad, part of the stadium were covered with tarp because of lack of fans.

It seems you took your doctor to be saying that he is recommending the vaccine even though he has reservations about it. Is that what you understood him to mean?

I suffer from health anxiety, it's hard. I get it.

It is good that you spoke to your doctor, as that helps me also. Just remember, our body is really good at tricking itself into symptoms that are not actually anything. Anxiety is a jerk.

Look, for what little it might be worth (which is 0 because my opinion doesn't matter), but I really commend you doing something that obviously you were/are nervous about, but still thought was worth doing for your own reasons.

I've also been warned about the Moderna side effects. The side effects reared its ugly head on me for 23 hours after the 2nd shot in early February then the next day after a sleepless day/night I took a shower after that drama and I felt better.

Thank you. If I could go back I don’t think I would get it and just stay “locked in my basement” until i felt more confident. But here I am- just going to hope for the best.

Did he go into any details? The words you quoted are open to interpretation. It seems unlikely to me that he would be promoting a vaccine that he had serious reservations about.

Well, it doesn’t seem like they were all that reassuring, but I’m sure you’re in the clear now.

He was honest. Which is why I like him as my doctor. He mostly said that GBS is a really complicated thing and he can’t totally reassure me, but he can tell me that he doesn’t see anything that is concerning him right now.

Knowing Primary Schools well (ex deputy head) my school- anecdotal I realise- had few children infected but staff and parents/guardians were. This led them to believe that school was the source of the outbreak but the children (aged 3-11) were not very likely to be infected but were very likely to be the cause of the spread.
As for secondary schools masks and twice weekly lateral flow testing certainly helped in reducing spread and identifying cases at an early stage. Staff and pupils who had been in contact with a positive case then had to isolate.
I agree that the football was a real problem but not at the stadium where vaccination proof or negative testing was required but in the pubs where irresponsible publicans set up TV screens and didn’t enforce isolation as per the guidelines at the time. More interested in making money but I suppose after such a long time being closed, it is a little understandable.
The Scottish fans who invaded London with no tickets were beyond stupid.
Do love my football though! Watched every premiership game last season (apart from the final day when they all kicked off at the same time!) on TV - best thing ever!

Totally agree on the football - some of the scenes made me cringe and I’ve been quite liberal in terms of my views on restrictions - always obvious what was going to happen afterwards!

As for primaries as I said only anecdotal from me really - I just reference the ONS survey which actually showed incidence going down for primaries but not secondaries - but then older teens socialise more outside so all really only a correlation

btw I love football - had a season ticket at Derby for many years but can’t bring myself to go right now with the state of the club - my local club is burton Albion who have been a real Cinderella story from no league to championship (and even surviving one season) - we will go and support them this season as ids literally a 10 min walk from my house

Remember those data points you read. Several weeks? You past the 22 day they gave you. I don't think medical people are being put in an awkward place though.... and honestly I think you are still projecting fears. The media actually helped your anxiety over a tiny chance of something instead of helping more vaccinate. They've been doing the negative nancy on side effects from before people were eligible. Just hang in there. You'll hit 42 days in no time.

Edit: I don't believe in shaming much. Some people might need it, but most need to be met where they are and what thatbis varies soooo much.
