there was a link but possibly not as much as people think - our case numbers were much much higher in the 20-35 age groups mainly due to increased socialisation and as I said above - the football.

One betraying observation is that for a long period of time we had masks in secondary schools but not primary - primary schools had far less spread still perhaps suggesting younger children are less susceptible to transmission and spread
I retract my question on when schools start up in FL and replace it with: When does the SEC football season kick off 🥴🥴🥴 At least nobody goes to Jaguars games so the NFL won’t be too big a problem ;););)

What are you inferring from that observation ?

Do you think it’s possible school and case numbers had a link?

May just be coincidence, but it is interesting that the lag between the drop offs is the same as the lag between the end of school year.

Being sick with *any* infection for a month would be a long time.
Almost all of my colds are more than a month....because I refuse to see a DR ever really lol. If it isn't my free yearly, nope. Not paying. I'd rather have the pneumonia LOL. I only kind of joke about that (did really end up with pneumonia when I ignored a chest cold for about 4-6 weeks). But really, I do tend to be stubborn about it, so it is a weird concept for me that being sick with a chest cold for a month would see long lol..

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I know I sound like a broken record. But I REALLY don't get why so many people hate masks so violently??? I mean they aren't fun, and are kind of annoying, but I don't get why there is such a strong visceral reaction?? I mean I hate sweating through all my shirts too, but you don't see me arguing to run around shirtless everywhere?? I don't know, it is just hard to imagine why it is really that big of an issue. I don't think they are really going to do a LOT, but I am willing to pay the piper if it saves one person.

I like that I can stop wearing makeup again at work lol. Just a bit of stuff on the eyes, and no one will know any different :hilarious:
They are hard for some to wear. Long and short of it I was blessed with spinal issues and a keloid in a bad spot that makes all masks, outside of neck gaiters honestly painful to wear. Add in some anxiety due to an assault and I'm a recipe for disaster. I oblige but I hate them. My lips dry out from lack of lip oil too so unlike you, I miss cosmetics. My husband has no issues. My kid deals with 13yo maskne that can be quite painful, so not a hate, but it really takes a toll on his self esteem. Not everyone is thrilled to wear is all. We do it when asked.

So the hate I have for them is immense, but I deal. I am glad to some they aren't a big deal, but some of us have legit reasons. Not all of us are jerks about it. Nothing to do with mah freedoms.
Yeah they are counting people who’s symptoms lasted months.

Long covid to me would be symptoms lasting more than 1 year.
Tell that to my friend who was out of work for 5 months. As a teacher. Guess where she caught it as no one policed masks?

Honestly your posts tonight are a bit shocking to me. Not only am I vaccinated, but 3 shots now and even I won't go as far as you. Though really I want good data so masking I think will not help that. I won't be a jerk about it.

We need FDA approval so mandates for vaccines won't be fought.

I’ve had sinus infections virtually yearly for 20 years - none of them knocked me out of commission to work (which is what was being discussed) for a month. typically given meds and no longer contagious within a few days, not a month.
Well that’s your experience someone else’s could be much worse.

Beware the long sinus.

My daughters colds can last a month if they get to her chest, but she has no ability to cough on command, no ability to blow her nose on command…it requires an inhaler with an aero chamber to help her kick them at that point. But she has a rare syndrome behind all of that..and that’s with seeing a dr.

Knowing Primary Schools well (ex deputy head) my school- anecdotal I realise- had few children infected but staff and parents/guardians were. This led them to believe that school was the source of the outbreak but the children (aged 3-11) were not very likely to be infected but were very likely to be the cause of the spread.
As for secondary schools masks and twice weekly lateral flow testing certainly helped in reducing spread and identifying cases at an early stage. Staff and pupils who had been in contact with a positive case then had to isolate.
I agree that the football was a real problem but not at the stadium where vaccination proof or negative testing was required but in the pubs where irresponsible publicans set up TV screens and didn’t enforce isolation as per the guidelines at the time. More interested in making money but I suppose after such a long time being closed, it is a little understandable.
The Scottish fans who invaded London with no tickets were beyond stupid.
Do love my football though! Watched every premiership game last season (apart from the final day when they all kicked off at the same time!) on TV - best thing ever!

I went to my doctor today to discuss my concerns with side effects... he told me “well they’ve put us in a really awkward place. We are supposed to tell everyone to get the vaccine no matter what. And then when people come to us with side effects we are just supposed to say yeah that happens”

He also told me he didn’t think I had any real reason to worry since it’s been several weeks, he said they usually present themselves in the first week.

I think it’s wrong the way the media and people on this forum are shaming people into getting a vaccine.

Not debating they could be worse, but not typically contagious for a month. So not the same thing as the virus causing a global pandemic.
Just pointing out plenty of infections can last a month.

Doesn’t mean they have long term life altering effects.
