Delta doesn't like younger people, it likes unvaccinated people and a higher percentage of younger people are not vaccinated. There is no evidence that Delta is any worse than prior variants for children under 12 with respect to serious illness.

I think many of the people who are getting the vaccine now (and in the past couple of weeks) are being reassured that the vaccines are safe since major side effects appear to be extremely rare.

I was at an event of about 80 people in CT this weekend and someone speaking before the group described it as great that we could all be together post-Covid. There was another reference to the pandemic being over.
I was just an audience member, but yipes! Granted, they are doing well compared to other states and they seem to have done a decent job with vaccination compare to the obvious.

In CT though, it kind of is mostly over.

From the CDC Daily Page. Note, I moved the start date slider to 5/1/21. Showing data since 1/22/20 is super misleading. Everything looks low compared to last winter. That doesn't mean it's good, just not dumpster fire bad. Perhaps only barrels burning in the street bad.

Pay attention to the different scales on the left between graphs too. The CDC graph auto scales based on the max. So two states may both be near the first grid line, but the line could be very very different.

In CT, looks pretty over.

In FL, looks like it's ramping back up. Was never really over, just a slow simmer and headed back now.

On the % of ED scale, it maxed out at 6.5% during the worst part of winter. My guess is this leads the hospitalization metric some.


When we look at WDW, I figure all of the staff is part of FL. A large chunk of guests may be too, but then a large chunk are from other areas. It make it hard to guess what the rates are within the bubble.

Which is why 100% of the narrative should be that if you want it to be very unlikely that you even get infected then you should get vaccinated. There should be no other narrative. This is no longer a public health crisis. It is a potential health crises among the population of people who have chosen not to be vaccinated.

I'm fully vaccinated (have been since 4/22) so leave me and others like me alone to live our lives as if COVID doesn't exist because, for us, it essentially doesn't exist.

Well looks like my upcoming Disney trip will be mask free then.

My family will gladly accept the .02 percent risk.

Now my biggest worry is back to how much fast passes are going to cost.

Not exactly. To correct the technicality, the Florida Legislature passed a bill and Governor Desantis signed it into law.

It does a few things. First, it limits any local state of emergency that isn't weather related to a maximum of 42 days and they must be renewed every seven days during that time. It specifically states that a new order that is substantially similar to the prior order can not be enacted.

Second, it requires that any emergency order be narrowly tailored to deal with the emergency at hand. Finally, gives the Governor the statutory authority to invalidate any local emergency order which isn't weather related at any time.

The end result is that unless a variant appears that significantly reduces the effectiveness of the vaccines, there will be no government mandated mitigation measures for COVID-19 in FL anytime soon.

That's true but for example some companies are making sure unvaccinated guests ( ie Carnival , Royal Caribbean ) are paying more for their planned vacations. - must purchase travel insurance and pay $150 cruise fees to get covid test prior to boarding.
