Not sure why you have this aggressive stance that it's all or nothing. I have gone to Disney weekly since they reopened literally one year ago. Did I love wearing masks in the heat outside? Of course not. Is it nice not wearing one now? Absolutely. However, that doesn't mean at a high level (not speaking for only personal concerns about covid) we're doing the right thing when we have a ton of people essentially lying and are not vaccinated.

Masks are proven to reduce spread. We can keep the economy open and reduce spread with mask mandates and social distancing.

Where I live is already above 80% vaccinated.

Why would I want to move anywhere else?

We're pretending that everything is okay and that cases are going down everywhere and that there aren't any states in trouble...including Florida.

I think they meant you would be upset by the required masking for vaccinated people, which we don't have here. I'm fully vaccinated and I'm very happy with the CDC guidelines saying I don't have to wear masks anymore (with limited exceptions for air travel, public transportation and doctor's offices).

Crazy considering Canada is two days away from passing the USA numbers for fully vaccinated, and Ontario has less cases per capita than anywhere in the USA.

They should look at BC. Masks are optional but the majority still wear them indoors, it's not a 50/50 split like you might expect given the vaccination rates. It's so different than what we're reading about WDW where suddenly 100% of guests are "fully vaccinated".

I understand all that. With the way things have been handled from the start I am really not surprised to see cases rising in many places again.

I don't buy the whole cases will rise when you open up things. We have been opening up things here since June and cases continue to drop.

Lotteries and other bribes don't work, or have worked as well as they're going to.

Businesses have little ability to effect change, since they can't ask for proof of vaccination in Florida. They could mandate masks indoors but at this point that es off the people who are vaccinated. A lose-lose prospect.

What is it going to take? Another even worse variant that impacts the unvaccinated in greater numbers? I'm struggling to think of anything else other than bringing back strict restrictions. Send the message - you had your chance to get vaccinated, we trusted you to do the obvious thing, but since you didn't we're going to bring back masks or require proof of vaccination at the Magic Kingdom.

It continues to be mind boggling that the USA didn't finish the vaccination process by now, and that these conversations are still being had. Canada will pass the USA in fully vaccinated numbers in two days, despite starting several months later. Canada is less than a month away from having 80% of the entire population fully vaccinated.

Just one thing.

If you want to say let’s bring back restrictions in Florida for example.

Tell me how that can actually happen without a change of leadership.

You talk about what should be done.

The problem is many of those things can’t happen for a myriad of reasons many political.

I am more focused on the reality of the situation.

What can we actually do?

Yes we can mask and social distance, but only the vaccinated care enough to do that, don’t fool yourself.

I only see two ways out of this.

Either the party in power finds a way to “force vaccination” thru passports or other means.

Or you watch the world burn around you, take your vaccine, and hope your house doesn’t catch on fire.

I don't know, but what else is there? Ontario was far more conservative as you pointed out, but it helped. Loosening of restrictions in Canada has largely been conditional upon vaccination numbers. Gatherings, travel, dining in, getting a haircut, etc. were all contingent on a certain percentage of the population getting vaccinated. The resulting response is quite decisive. As you pointed out there are politics and other factors at play that differ between the two countries, that we can't really discuss here, but I still conclude that this approach paid off.

It's tough because every business wants to make as much money as possible. In my fantasy scenario WDW, movie theaters, restaurants, etc. would require vaccination for admission. There are no consequences now for not getting vaccinated, in terms of leisure activities.

More and more people are giving up and accepting that nothing more can be done, and the people who don't get vaccinated have chosen their path. I get it. I just wish there was better leadership or ways to have real consequences for the choice. Living in a society means doing certain things for the benefit of all, but instead it feels very every person for themselves.

Meaningful bribes haven't been tried. I'm pretty sure that if you gave people $1,000 tax free for getting vaccinated, a good percentage of the holdouts would get vaccinated. It should have been tied to the last stimulus.

Where has that happened?

People know they have almost no chance of winning a lottery.

Give everyone guaranteed $$$$ and scholarships for kids.
