I still find it fascinating that people are concerned enough to mask and social distance but not concerned enough to stay home.

Count me in the fascinated club there too on this one. Especially given the point of this site.

I found an article on the study after you posted. I would say yes, it's likely they would reduce the efficacy of masks, although it's hard to put a solid number of mask efficacy. We know they help, but it would be hard to say something like "masks offer 20% less protection against the delta varient"

Yeah I guess I just find it weird that every time we have a new strain we get a massive amount of data pouring in about its effect on the vaccine.

What I have not seen is any updated info on how effective masks are.

People will be sending their kids to school soon wearing masks hoping they are safe.

They may not be safe at all from Delta.

Actually, at least in my state, most will be sending their kids without masks....

We’ve been asked to keep this relatively on topic to Disney Parks so I’ll rephrase it to an 8 year old visiting Disney.

Umm... we don’t really know enough right now. But I think mixing vaccinated and unvaccinated indoors, in crowded areas is a bad idea for everyone until we know more about Delta.

Not sure the information is there on that one, but many area's aren't giving parents the choice. If you aren't one of the blessed that can to homeschool, many school districts down South are back to normal. No Option on attendance of school really.

The vaccine has been shown to be fairly effective in mitigating either the virus completly, or mitigating the worst effects of it. So the issue is letting unvaccinated people mingle indoors.

I think the issue with mixing vaccinated is more to the fact that a vaccinated person can have minor symptoms of the virus and not realize it, or not take it seriously. While it is still uncommon for someone vaccinated to get the virus, it isn't unheard of. If they then mix with the unvaccinated, then it could be a problem. However, I believe the studies have been positive thus far about how the vaccine helps minimize transfer rates.

Yes on that one I would be moderate as I was never put on oxygen.

That was the levels my friend was given. Let's just say if she didn't get the monoclonal treatment we think she could have been worse. Better now and fully vaxxed but it was a scary week for us as we had just lost another friend and their spouse to covid. We were glad it was more like a very nasty cold or flu than what it could've been.

I am assuming these trials work just like the adult one where you need to get a certain number of cases in the placebo group so you can judge efficacy. If that is the case, it's going to take longer with kids since they don't get symptomatic infection as easily as adults.

My understanding was they’re doing the trial differently. Looking for antibody levels after different durations with different doses. That’s still a lot of time to get the levels after enough time. Plus some big grid to minimize the number of blood draws for each participant.

Kids aren’t just smaller people. If it was that simple, they would ask for your weight when getting vaccinated.

I told him I had trouble getting air , dropping avg spo2 and had covid. He said no reason then to take you to hospital because there is no treatment fir Covid, but if want I will take you.

Luckily my spo2 stabilized and shortness of breath ended temporarily by the tine I got to ER. Since spo2 stabilized at 92 they just treated dehydration, lack of salts in blood, etc. Covid with bronchitis. Few hours later allowed to go home, so avoided hospital stay. Still amazed at EMT saying there is no known treatment for Covid. But he is just an emt.

No, we can't. We need to prevent as many infections as possible in order to prevent as many mutations as possible.

As I said in another post, the 150 million unvaccinated Americans are a tiny fraction of the billions unvaccinated around the world. Any "boogie man" mutation is far more likely to come from somewhere else.

My friend went in for the treatment and sent away like you. Another was admitted but with lower numbers than yours and asthma she was admitted though she really was an over cautious watch due to risks. Sadly none of my friends (admitted or just treated and released) seemed to be treated exactly the same. Those admitted were on oxygen (some vents) but other meds not the same. So not sure there is a set thing. Unless given oxygen, not much they seemed to universally do for admitted here. Maybe that's what he weirdly meant?

We do not know yet. I'm a trial person and haven’t been scheduled yet. So until we have real good data, this is not a fact.

You can’t approve for emergency use until the phase 3 trials are complete.

You don’t use people as guinea pigs. How do you know what dosage to even give until you complete the studies???

Neither of which are likely in schools this fall. I know social distancing straight up won’t happen in my district - even the 3 feet. Everyone is going back in 5 days, and there's simply not enough room in the buildings to bring everyone back and have any kind of distancing. and IMO the writing is on the wall for masks being gone by fall too.
