Actually, can we just keep social distancing period??? Please??? I would love not having everybody and their mother constantly breathing down my neck and hovering over me.

COVID19 nothing what you describe sounds, well, creepy. People that do what you describe are not well and not with a virus.

I don't understand how anything I said has an impact on the restaurant industry?? When at a restuarant, you are sitting down and therefore not bumping into me or breathing down my neck. However, the concept of not standing 6 inches from me to get closer to the ordering station isn't going to hurt anyone. When waiting for a seat, it is possible to wait outside the door or spaced out from me so that you aren't becoming one with me.

I don't have issues with social distancing at restaurants. I have issues with people getting into my personal space at stores and fast food. You can still show there without hoovering near me in some weird mental effort to feel like you are getting through the line quicker..

What you are describing is not social distancing.

What you are describing is common courtesy.

Maybe I should clarify I meant social distancing in lines, everywhere. Not just at Disney. People for some reason seem to think that if they stand 6 inches from me in a line, they are getting where they are going quicker. It isn't that hard to space it out a foot or two and let a woman breathe. I am not a canned sardine; and that isn't a Disney thing, that is a personal respect thing.

Yeah, I have lost all hope in that regard over the last year. I wasn't really being serious btw with my earlier comment. Just saying out of all the horror over the last year, it was nice to have a socially mandated personal bubble.

I still find it fascinating that people are concerned enough to mask and social distance but not concerned enough to stay home.

When I go out in public every day I am accepting the risk per my understanding of the research.

If I felt even the least bit concerned I would be staying in my house.

Masking and social distancing have only proven to slow the spread of previous variants.

It’s also a fact that the non vaccinated among us will not follow the rules anyways.

If you are at risk or have at risk children stay in your house.

In my opinion you should only leave your house if you are vaccinated and willing to accept the risks of coming into contact with non masked delta variant carrying individuals.

Which is why I think we should've done targeted support to vulnerable groups (income replacement, free weekly grocery delivery) as soon as we learned who is most likely to develop severe disease vs. telling them to wear a mask and allow them to roam grocery stores freely.

The Spanish flu killed far more randomly than COVID-19 does. We had an extremely valuable tool at our disposal that we wholly ignored. Heck, just providing income replacement, grocery delivery for everyone over 65 would've saved upwards of 200,000 lives. Those people should not have been out in society over the last year with or without a mask.

Where are you getting those numbers? It's infecting younger people because they're unvaccinated and out in the community, that is true.

There's nothing to suggest Delta is more dangerous than the UK version or wild type for younger people. Actually, the only evidence I have seen is the opposite.

Hospitalizations among young people are at an all time low. In the last week that CDC data is available, only 18 people under the age of 18 were hospitalized; in the entire country (an all time low for the pandemic). 153 people between the ages of 18 and 49 in the entire country; also an all time low for the pandemic.

To me it’s more evidence that the vaccines work and these young people need to go get their shot.

It's abysmal that there isn't a vaccine approved for children with certain conditions. But 99% of kids can return to school safely unvaccinated, the threat they face is simply miniscule.

I'm not arguing? You haven't posted any data. I was asking for the data regarding Delta, I haven't seen it and you have not shared it but continue to say that it is more deadly in younger people. In fact, the only one who has posted data is me and you continue to ignore it. Hospitalizations among young people are at an all time low. It is a fact. Right on the CDC website. This is a really good thing, I don't know why we want it to not be true.

Regarding the doctor, again, I did not dismiss their medical expertise. I dismissed the notion that what they are seeing in their own practice is representative of an entire nation of 325 million people.

I did say in the quote that I wasn't serious. I am not looking to really mandate that. Mostly just making an offhand comment about how the space at least was nice.

Some people are unwilling to believe that COVID simply is not the threat it once was (it's not, no where near it in fact). We need to start coming to grips that we're probably all going to get infected with a COVID variant at some point. Maybe not this year, or next year, but at some point. And you'll continue to get vaccinated to make sure it presents as a common cold. Because it isn't going away and we're not distancing/masking again. There really is no other way out.

Everyone in this thread has been infected with a coronavirus in the past. You didn't know it because you didn't care. But all of a sudden because it's "COVID-19" you care even though you have basically a guarantee (vaccination) that it will present the same was as the previous countless times you were infected with coronavirus (common cold).

How many of you have a cold right now? There's a decent chance it's a human coronavirus; just not SARS-CoV-2. In fact, right now, you're more likely to become infected with four coronaviruses that are not COVID-19.

Eradication is impossible. Avoiding exposure forever is also impossible. Get vaccinated and live your life. Get your boosters and then live your life some more. It's okay to get a cold - even if it's COVID-19.

To be clear, I am speaking to immune (vaccinated, previously infected) people only. COVID is not always a common cold for people who have not been exposed or vaccinated.
