Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

WDW isn't every day life (for most, anyway). This is a theme park that is bringing in a huge amount of people from airports and travel from all over the country. Surely you would expect them to be a little more cautious than your local grocery store. I'm still confused how people don't see that difference.

Like I already said, I expected masks to be required indoors until 5-12 year olds were given the green light. A higher vaccination rate and actual case declines wouldn't hurt either.

If indoors I can maybe see that (not that I agree with that at those age ranges, but irrelevant to the point).

Outdoors which the bulk of where people are when visiting a theme park? Not really.

Chapek only cares about money and I promise he had the bean counters running every single scenario possible thru Mickeys magical computer.

The result is clear.

They determined they make more money without mitigations than with them.

That means if you think Disney should be operating with mitigation’s in place you are in the minority of guests.

Doesn’t mean you are right or wrong. It is what it is.

If Disney announces a return to mitigation’s they will face revenue loss, having to lay off employees, and a massive hit to the stock price.

It’s just not going to happen unless this virus finds its way past the vaccine.

Call it whatever you want but why should someone lose their livelihood just so some anti vaxer doesn’t get sick ?

Wearing masks and social distancing protect peoples lives. Vaccines are not 100% effective against protecting against transmission, symptomatic disease, severe disease, hospitalizations and deaths.

So might not wearing a mask and follow some form of social distancing until more of your population receive both doses there is a greater chance you could affect someone and either they get long covid or could be hospitalised.

I agree with you on the overall point you're trying to make, but remember there's a large portion of the country vulnerable right now because they can't get vaccinated, children like my 8-year-old. Whose school district by the way has mandated there will be no virtual options at all this year and no mask requirements either

There's a big difference of what they have now vs what they had July 2020, and there's also a lot of options in between. It's not all or nothing, and you can add some mitigations without really messing with layoffs and stock prices.

I'm not for or against any changes right now, but I do think they have options if they needed to pull back slightly due to a rise of delta.

Fair enough but this is about how covid relates to Disney world. No one is making you take your 8 year old to see the mouse.

Did you see the numbers someone else just posted?

Almost all the cases are non vaccinated.

The only people who should be worried are the non vaccinated.

Almost no vaccinated person is going to think twice about safety measures.

Funny thing about data. It is likely that in June when I got moderate covid here in central Florida I might have been counted as unvaccinated even though I was fully vaccinated by the end of September 2020.

when you go online to get a covid test appointment with CVS it asks you if you had been vaccinated in the last 9 months. I answered yes, but it did not like my answer to when I got vaccinated. So I had to switch to not vaccinated in order to get appointment for test. Of course that bug would not effect many people.

But it does make me wonder how they determine who was vaccinated and who was not.

After reading some articles today where infection rates are going up and myself working at a hospital where the general consensus is, that we may be heading towards more restricted measures like what happened last fall. I just knew this was going to happen as there was too many unvaccinated people in this country who don’t care about anyone else or what rights and privileges are restricted due to their stupidity and selfishness.

I took the vaccination at the end of December and the middle of January for the second shot. I believe and trust in the science and I just wish we could get everyone on board and get them vaccinated. I have a strong feeling that on my October trip, Walt Disney World will be implementing more restrictive measures and they’re probably saying to themselves, they might have moved too soon in removing some of them as of now. You can thank the unvaccinated and the stupid conspiracy believers who still think COVID-19 is a joke, for the return of masks everywhere and more restrictive measures.

I was hoping for the best, but I now really believe that we’re going to get swamped with COVID-19 variants in the areas where Vaccinations are the lowest and looked upon as a government conspiracy. We as a country really won’t see the end of this for quite a while. it’s a damn shame, it really is.

And to add: outdoors was a farce, always was. I was surprised that the CDC admitted their math was off and dispensed with that non-sense a few months back.

Good to see science working! Better data in leads to changes and better info out. You or I or anyone else did not know exactly how much could be transmit outside up until about 6-8 months ago. They had a idea but science needed more data and they got it and confirmed it so information was then released on the new data. Good thing we don’t go by “ideas” about something as serious as this and continue to do more testing.

The few people who would cancel would be balanced with the few people who would book because of.

If anything Disney has proved that people will come and pay no matter what. People were paying to enter DCA with no rides and no shows!! I’m sure that only encouraged Chapek.

That I think most of us can agree on! At least that’s been the case the last 20 years , give or take a few years.
Back in the 70’s and 80’s I wouldn’t agree with that statement as much.
