This is nice, but it doesn't pay the bills...or take much effort on the part of Disney. And it's only the 1 night.

After thinking about it and going back and reading it again you're right, I did answer my own question. I should've phrased it differently.

Disney has 0 obligation to do this for cast members. It's nice. But I think you are a bit naive if you think this is just out of the goodness of their hearts. When we were down about a month ago, it was legit some of the most miserable I've ever seen cast members. They were short with people, and they just didn't look happy to be there. I interacted with more than one cast member who got immediately defensive (I did have one great experience with a cast member too). I have no doubt it's a combination of them not getting all their park benefits, long hours, and people being even more awful with the mask policy. I would not be surprised in the least if disney is having staff issues and they are trying to bump up morale. Now, is that a bad thing? Does it make disney evil or wrong? Not in the least. If what I'm speculating based on my experience is true, disney has smartly recognized they have an issue that could potentially impact guests and their favorability, and they are doing something about it. I've been with plenty of companies that stick their heads in the sand on these things and leave their employees miserable. Disney is doing a very nice thing to boost morale because cast members are rightfully down right now. Or I'm way off and the greedy disney has an elaborate, amazing scam to ruin their cast members to make an extra $3.

Interesting that you say that. When I went on vacation on the Disney Wonder the ship docked at Paradise Island Bahamas for the day. I left the ship and took a cab to the pink hotel ( Atlantis) on Paradise Island hotel and casino. I was surprised to hear from the cab driver that he said only tourists are allowed on the premises. Locals are not allowed on the premises and if the local works at the hotel/casino they are only allowed to be there if they are working so no a company does not owe you a thing except a paycheck for hours worked.

This kind of attitude is exactly why Disney continues to treat their CM's like dirt. Because people like you continually excuse them from any kind of corporate responsibility.

Just the facts but some don't see that. Corporate responsibility and the future of their jobs ( the execs that run TWDC ) is to impress company shareholders and the company stock price, other facts. The free night to cast is a nice thank you among other things to recognize the cast.

It is a requirement that any "respectable" member of WDW Magic hate everything that happens at WDW. It's one of the reasons I take the forums in small doses.

No. It’s just a fact. They have no responsibility to give their employees anything more than the agreed upon pay for the work the employees perform and any agreed upon benefits.

what corporate responsibility?? Is Disney not giving them what was agreed upon when they were hired? that's a serious question. Is any one under the assumption when they get hired that they will get rich being a cm. I ask the same question when people complain about fast food workers not getting "liveable" wages.

First let me say I've never worked for the mouse world but I have worked for walmart, mcdonalds and waitress. At no time did I think any of those jobs were made to have a decent life. they paid exactly equal to what they were, low wage entry level jobs. I swear to all that is holy the big motivating factor for me getting a college degree was working retail at the Macy's on 34th street NYC during the Christmas holidays. lol that was enough to let me know never ever did I want to get stuck in a dead end low wage job.

Again, I have never worked for Disney so forgive my question. what do they do to their employees? I do have two relatives that did the college intern thing at Disney but they never complained about being horribly treated by the boss, they did complain a bunch about entitled visitors who continuously said "do you know how much I paid for this vacation" and treated them like slaves

I know the fine print. I also know it is part of the benefit package they offer. Free admission for your self and 3 guests(silver passes), 12 comp tickets/year. It's a consideration when you are deciding on excepting their job offer and if its a benefit you can't use, you may go elsewhere. Disney is not the top of the payscale for competitive positions, so many are working at Disney for their culture(compared to other corporations) and the unique benefits they offer.

Even if you love Disney you may just go with the higher offer and become a pass holder.

Not bad... but if it’s disney, it’s ALWAYS gotta be business or profit related. It ALWAYS has to benefit them in some shape or form.... so this is skeptical to many.
