Vaccines will keep cases down trending by July in United States, no upticks or spikes/surges for good. 2021 will be very unlucky for me.....ugh I hate this pandemic thing I wish it go away soon. Now pandemic will may go on forever....FOREVER!!

Live what way? In FL there’s no government restrictions on anything. There’s no way there’s going to be any change to any policy whether there’s a massive surge in cases or not after Spring Break. We had a massive surge in cases this winter after Thanksgiving and Christmas there was no change to policy in FL, why would Spring Break be any different. The state hit 11,000 cases one day this winter and nobody seemed to care. That ship has sailed.

Well at least you aren’t in Europe! Seriously the political situation here is spiralling out of control and it’s going to turn very very nasty out here if things don’t get dialled down

the EU supported by germany and France especially are now threatening to stop any vaccine being exported to the UK unless we basically release AstraZeneca from their contract with us so they can supply the EU more! We are basically being punished for sorting contracts early and it may get to a point where we can’t give out second doses because the EU are blocking them. I’m really really hope I’m wrong but this is really volatile situation over here which can become a real crisis situation

Don’t worry too much about the U.K. being cut off by the EU regarding AZ vaccines. The factory abroad (Belgium?) is totally reliant on raw materials from the U.K. and do not have the facilities to make them without our cooperation so if they don’t play ball they won’t be able to produce any for themselves or us! Maybe they shouldn’t have been so dismissive about the vaccine in the first place!

The U.K. is doing very well, thank you! At least as far as vaccinations are concerned, so far.

Not reporting anything new, but just a word of caution... one of my physician partners had 2nd dose of Pfizer vaccine in early Jan, but just tested + for covid. He has 101 degree fever and significant malaise. Whether he is one of the 4-5% that didn’t get immunity to the original strain or he is infected with a variant, I don’t know.
Either way, this and recent worldwide upticks lead me to believe that this is not going away anytime soon. We will need updated vaccines, more efficient testing, better treatments, and patience. We will learn to live with it.

And a reminder the vaccine isn’t a “get off scot free card.” No death, no hospitalization that’s what the vaccine hopefully gets everyone. If you want to avoid getting sick, entirely, then other precautions still have value until cases come way down and stay down.

Hopefully, your colleague will be back to health soon.

because this could literally tear Europe apart - and although not directly affecting the us in terms of vaccines and pandemic a split and at war (politically) Europe in itself would cause some consternation in the US surely just as it would the other way round to us over the last few years. In addition, a vaccine trade war will be no good for anyone in the world - if the EU decide to invoke article 122 and also blocks vaccine exports it won’t only be the UK that loses it will be many other areas of the world including Covax countries - they’ve already blocked vaccines to Australia and could do it many other places. Also we have india now restricting exports and theyre the mainstay for covax - if this starts to happen then we all suffer; as we see in Brazil - uncontained spread will eventually leak out again to other places as it has done in Europe as well - I really do find it a worry not only for the Uk But the world in general

I guess I just didn't understand (and still don't) what it has to do with policy for the US. I get where you are going, but maybe I just think it's too early to worry in the UK. At least I hope so. I also hope the EU starts vaccinating more.

I saw this this morning and it was so sad knowing how he stepped up when the pandemic started. Pledging to take care of his people. We had never eaten at Texas Roadhouse before, but have gotten takeout a few times due to his early statements.

This pandemic is global so we need the world to be doing well. Who is better or best is of no concern, we need to help everyone get vaccinated.

Can the adults please step in and let all parties know we all have to do well with this and get shots in arms. They around and this thing mutates into something the vaccines don't see we are set back two years. It would not be a good outcome.

Yep, we still need to take precautions to limit the spread until it isn't spreading. I was in Savannah Ga today and am impressed with the mask compliance. They wear them walking down the streets when no one is around and in the parks/squares. I thought maybe I was in WDW? Huge change from last August when I went though south Georgia. You couldn't see a mask anywhere then.

The ICU's in Europe are full, we are not immune from what happens there.

43M Americans are fully vaccinated. Even if only 4-5% of them are not immune that still means over 2M people walking around fully vaccinated and not immune. With community spread as high as it is today it would be almost statistically impossible that one of them wouldn’t come into contact with an infected person. I don’t think it’s a sign that the vaccines aren’t working or that we need to learn to live with Covid. We do need more patience while we wait for more people to be vaccinated and we need as many people as possible to get vaccinated.

Just to throw some more info out the vaccines reduce your chance of getting Covid by 95% compared to a normal person. That does not mean you have a 5% chance of getting Covid, it’s actually less than that because other then having Covid particles directly injected into your nostril the chance of getting Covid without a vaccine isn’t 100%. In most situations it’s probably around than 10%. .1x(1-.95)x100=0.5%.

That said it’s not zero and it will happen. Don’t start to panic until you hear large amount of vaccinated people start being admitted to the hospital, remember the goal is to reduce severe disease and death, eradication would be nice but is not the main goal.

A while ago I saw something that said a spouse living in the household of somebody with COVID had something like a 37% chance to get it. My accountant's wife had it (symptomatic) and he didn't get it. Before they knew it was COVID, they slept in the same bed when she first got sick.

Pfizer and Moderna seem to be around 89% effective in preventing infection so if your spouse is infected and you are vaccinated you'll have around a 4% chance to get infected.

The important thing you said is that infected isn't a big issue. Serious illness, hospitalization and death are serious issues and the vaccines appear to be preventing those at close to 100%.

I have good news and bad news about curbing Spring Break risky behavior.

The good news is that a majority of Northeast colleges are not having a Spring Break in order to prevent students from picking up the virus on break and bringing back to the campus and surrounding community, like they did last year.

The bad news is that with so many schools doing remote classes, that students are still heading down to FL beaches and zoom in from their hotel room then hit the party circuit later in the day.

Tourists from Lockdown states is the point I was making implicitly. If they were to follow through with their chain of reasoning, they would have imposed quarantine restrictions on their inhabitants' return. Instead, they let them go to another state to run amok.

Many states do, in fact, require a quarantine upon return in all but some narrowly defined circumstances for people who are fully vaccinated...and I fear the consequences when they return, after a week of maskless, non-distanced gatherings and inevitably don't observe the quarantine.

When Florida and Texas' governors start ringing the dinner bell for maskless fun, what are the rest of the states supposed to do? Build a wall to keep their citizens from going?
