Nice try but the goal is not elimination. They never said that from the beginning. It’s been repeatedly stated that covid will always be here. The goal, at least in regards to ending restrictions and mandates, is to achieve enough vaccination to reduce community spread to as a minimum as possible.

And I’m willing to bet my life the amount of Covid deaths that omitted Covid as the cause (due to lack of testing, lack of knowledge and/or sudden death outside a medical facility) far exceeds non Covid deaths mistakingly attributed to Covid.

Scientific data makes it QUITE clear now is not the time to relax the rules. Time and time again, nations all around the world have relaxed restrictions too soon and caused more death. We need to tow the line just a little longer if we want to finally end the pandemic. We are talking mere months and spring is coming, where outdoor hikes away from crowds can be enjoyed maskless. We can do this.

Yes, but those relaxed restrictions occurred before vaccinations were available, let alone vaccinated.

Varients are coming, but provided we keep increasing vaccinations and with an assist from Mother Nature (summer is coming) we have a really good chance of ending this pandemic soon.

correct. You used the word “eliminated”. Covid will never be eliminated, at least not for awhile. To me and most others, elimination conjures a smallpox level scenario.

More people can associate outdoors where distancing is easier to observe and masks are not as imperative. Not all states are as fortunate as Florida

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the public was sold on masks and social distancing so that the rate of spread would remain at one that the healthcare systems could mange without crashing and further the snowball effect of hospitalizations and deaths.
We did not accept these measures to eliminate the virus.
We accepted the measures, as a means to control the spread until a combination of vaccines and natural immunity reached a point where would could carry on with our lives in a pre-covid manner.
As we do for seasonal flu, where we don't use such measures as masks and social distancing, but accept the risk of death as a part of life.

Masks work best when used as stated by the CDC: when you have to be in contact with someone for a significant length of time (usually indoors) and cannot maintain a separation of 6 feet. The problem is that they are being worn consistently in public places where people are just passing each other briefly, but not by co-workers who are in contact with each other and certainly not in individual households. I see people at our local arboretum pull up a mask while passing someone several feet away. The mask isn't doing anything in that circumstance. I think most public mask mandates are in place based on enforcement issues.

Anyone familiar with my posts here knows that I am no fan of masks.
But I do believe that they have their place, and serve a purpose in situations when used in some ways.
One of my problems is that so many people have little understanding of why they are wearing them and how they work - or don't work.
If I were to go on a plane for instance, spend a couple of hours confined next to people - it is very likely (since I am not vaccinated yet) that I would don an n95 mask.
Yet when I hit the bike trail, and people I pass are few and far between - both in terms of distance and numbers - I do not wear a mask of any type.

When vaccinations are widespread, I could certainly see a scenario where Disney amends their mask policy to say mandatory indoors, optional outdoors. Outdoor spread has been questioned for a while now, especially in hot, humid weather. The bigger question would be whether Disney would want to deal with the enforcement of that, which would require some policing at the entrances to rides, shops, etc.

I said this a while ago.
I could imagine them telling you to put them on in ride queues, or inside shops and hotels.

It was lockdowns that were proposed to control the rate of spread so hospitals would not become overwhelmed, not masks and distancing. Masks and distancing didn't start becoming a part of the mix until April of last year, and were a way of offering some protection to people when in public, especially frontline workers. When studies began to show that they helped limit spread, they became a focus of precaution.

I know people will argue until they are blue in the face that masks are an affront to their personal liberty, yada yada. The fact is that they are a cheap, simple, effective way of providing some safety in a COVID world, and ultimately a temporary inconvenience.

At the end of the day my simple opinion right now has evolved to this: once we get mostly everyone vaccinated there‘s no reason we won’t be returning to somewhat normal behavior. If that doesn‘t happen then what‘s the point. I’m not planning to be immune and then still sit around in a mask and not see my family or eat in a restaurant or visit WDW. I accepted not doing those things for a really long time when there were no vaccines and it was the only good way to keep my loved ones safe but I’m not going to be doing it indefinitely just because.

Hubby and I got our second Moderna shot yesterday afternoon. He currently is experiencing some GI issues, but isn't confident it is from the vaccine (he ate scallops at a restaurant we've never gone to after our shot); also has body aches and a bit of headache, but those could be related to dehydration vs. shot effects as well. My arm was VERY sore last night (started about 2 hrs after injection), but I've been able to find some relief with Tylenol.

DD16 got her first Pfizer Thursday evening and had a bit of arm soreness, but no further issues. She'll get her 2nd dose just over a week before we leave for WDW and is so relieved and excited to get the vaccine. It has been a big help for her anxiety and depression to know that she will soon have some protection and thus has some ability to protect her family.

A propos of nothing, I received my 2nd moderna vaccine. After about 20 hours I was hit with a fever of 102, aches, sweats, nausea and an inability to get warm despite blankets and sweatshirt. This lasted about 12 hours. I then caved and took tylenol pm. When I woke up it was over. It was definitely worth it but I will also say I haven’t felt that badly since I have a bad case of the flu about 7 years ago. I was in bed all day and totally miserable. My husband had his 2nd shot and had a mild headache and fatigue. My mother in law had nothing but a sore arm. Most people I know who have received the 2nd shot had significant symptoms for 24 hours. Also, anecdotally, those under 50 have had a worse time and small females worst of all. Just sharing so people are prepared to take a day or two off work! Now I’m ready to live again!
