We have that same rule for restaurants in my state. It makes sense for waiting or standing in line to get in, but no one is pulling masks up and down while they're eating. I think they may be having a problem with people in counter service locations sitting at tables waiting for their food or taking breaks at the tables without actually dining. Like everything else, I suspect it will be enforced if they see people trying to get around the rules, but not carried to the point of absurdity.

Last time I was there it didn't seem that they were really allowing people to just go in and take a break at a table. It felt like we had to trick them to bring ice cream sundaes from whatever Mrs. Potts is called now to eat in Cosmic Ray's (it was quite hot outside that day).

I don't think the new policy is meant to have people pulling masks up and down between bites like you're supposed to do on an airplane by the letter of the stupid new rules which I don't think any airline is enforcing to that degree. It seems to be meant to discourage long pre and post meal discussions.

I believe the rule is the same in Broward County and I've yet to be in one restaurant that enforces masks while you are seated at a table.

@GoofGoof if all cases are so low by early summer as people got all vaccine by summer then masks and social distancing will gone forever?

There will be another pandemic sometime in the future, it’s inevitable like Thanos. But when community spread ceases, the masks should disappear.

I'm so glad I finished school back in 2010 before all this. Cant imagine what its like trying to do remote learning. Too many distractions at home id either end up playing games on the computer or just not paying attention lol.

If the new face mask policy change is accurate I’m just not gonna follow it. I will walk out and never eat sit down at Disney until they change it if they give me crud over it. Nowhere else in FL do I have to do that. It sounds like something some genius in CA is forcing on WDW bc they hate FL.

I don't know where she heard it and I haven't done any research myself but my Mom said that Broward and Palm Beach counties have designated vaccine sites where high risk individuals under 65 can get vaccinated. She mentioned somewhere in Jupiter and I can't remember where in Broward.

It's stupid to put a mask on between bites of food you are eating on airplane where the entire volume of cabin air is changed out every 2-3 minutes and where studies indicated very minimal spread in the months prior to people being required to wear masks onboard at all.

That doesn’t seem to be the rule. Instead it seems aimed at people at places like sit down restaurants who sit down and immediately take off their masks before they have even ordered, much less received anything to eat or drink.

The first thing a server does when they stop by is ask you what do you want to drink, and then they bring it to you within 5 minutes.

Let's say that a Table Service meal is 45 minutes. Are you really suggesting that wearing a mask for an extra 5 minutes (out of 45) is really going to make a difference?

If Disney truly were concerned about the potential spread of COVID while eating and drinking, they would close all restaurants, bars, and concession stands.

But that would crush the bottom line.

Up until this one, I've been very supportive of Disney's handling of COVID.

If this is a real change to Disney's mask wearing policy, then this one is idiotic.

Yeah, I think this change is more about clarifying the original intent of the rule then actually making a new rule. It's just a clarification on what is meant by "actively" eating or drinking.

Yeah, but this new rule also means that people would be masked for most of the time they are interacting with servers. Its not about safe/unsafe, its all on a scale. And if you say mask up until the food/drinks come, that adds some degree of safety without much friction. Seems like an easy change to make.

Because it’s very hard to eat outdoors in the north in the winter and if these businesses can’t make money they’ll close. Take out isn’t always enough or feasible.

Well I know my wife will not want me to take her to Disneyworld if she has to wear a mask when sitting down to eat. I will just let our Premier Plus passes rot for a while. I look forwarded to the day cases are down enough because so many are vaccinated that mitigation rules are relaxed.

I wonder if Disney Springs restaurants are under the same mandate from the landlord(Disney) or this is just a Disney run or park only mandate.

My wife keeps asking me when Victoria and Alberts will reopen, and I tell her not for a while. Some of the people working there have been there for decades, I wonder what they are doing during this time. Probably will be the last Disney restaurant to open post covid.

Just glad we have effective vaccines, the ability to pivot to new versions of the vaccines if mutations warrant, and the US has ordered a lot of the most effective vaccines. Looking forward to the day WDW is mask optional because cases are so low.

Is US will get back to normal by summer if cases are so lower and COVID will be no longer as a threat, also masks and social distancing may be gone for good in summer? @GoofGoof

Face Coverings​


Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.

The Rule has always been that you can only remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking. They never intended to allow you to take the mask off indefinitely just because you were seated at a table in a restaurant area.
