Im pretty sure at some point vacines will be invented that can be at more normal temperatures....i assume there sill be a push for that....a check from the DRC or kenya cashes just as well.

Astrazeneca, JnJ, and the Chinese's Sinovac vaccines are at normal refrigerator temp or better. The ideal vaccine would be a single dose, room temperature stable, 100% effective, with no side effects giving lifetime immunity to all variants. We will never get that, but I agree getting a vaccine that has the effectivity of a MRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) and the temperature stability profile of a JnJ vaccine would be ideal for the world. Let us hope JnJ numbers approach the MRNA vaccines.

I would take above 80% with none of those infected in the vaccine group having serious illness or death. If we have 1/3 vaccinated with an 80% effective and 2/3 with 95% that averages to 90% so good enough for me. I know that’s not how the real math works but simplified example.

I agree, and in this country that will likely happen since we have purchased a lot of the MRNA vaccines.

Worldwide I just hope the vaccines people get will average high enough to obtain herd immunity, but I would (if given even odds) bet against it (Worldwide). Given the current AstraZeneca numbers and the Sinovac numbers. The countries that vaccinate with a good ratio of highly effective vaccines (Pfizer & Moderna..so far) will likely obtain herd immunity locally. The long term is how much virus reservoir there will be in other locations in the world, and how the virus will mutate in those reservoirs. But we live in a world with viruses and our bodies have defenses. We will have vaccines and therapies even if we cannot fully eliminate the virus from the world.

Fair point. Rolling out the Pfizer vaccine (and even Moderna)as they are currently configured in large parts of the world where the power grid is unstable will be problematic. Remember that story about a few hundred doses spoiling when the cleaner accidentally unplugged the freezer? That happens every day through blackouts in some parts of the world.

I have a friend who works for Pfizer and he says they are pretty far along on making a powder version of their vaccine that doesn’t require the cold storage. They were apparently already working with BioNTech on it for the mRNA flu vaccine they were trying to develop together. They knew they had to solve the cold storage issue to make an mRNA flu vaccine viable. For Covid it was worth rushing it out to get started on jabs. They are targeting the second half of 2021 as a potential timeline to hopefully roll out the powder version. I think large parts of the world will still be vaccinating well into 2022 so there’s time for that to make a huge difference if it works.

this is the first time I actually feel very hopeful. Like the end is actually near. Not just seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, I can now actually see the opening at the end of the tunnel .I know there can be more speed bumps and roadblocks, but still.

I'll continue to keep a little distant and wear a mask in highly crowded parts but I'll essentially go back to pre-pandemic where I'm mostly maskless

I for one cannot wait to be among crowds again (when the pandemic is fully behind us, of course). It’ll take some readjustment, but I would hate to let this awful way of living become my new normal.

The mRNA vaccines need to be kept so cold because they use lipid nanoparticles (likely the source of the tracking nanobots nutso conspiracy theory) to encase the mRNA and they break down quickly at higher temperatures. Maybe eventually something else will be discovered that doesn't need those temps.

I know there's been a slightly larger than normal demand for stand alone generators, job says partly to needing stand alone power to cold storage units.

I think we can all say that to a degree. However we know the parks are not made like that...as soon as its safe to do so they will pack em in. Tbh even just like a foot or so of real room between parties would be an improvement over pre covid.

Attaining herd immunity is definitely more difficult if world population is vaccinated with Astrazenca vs (Pfizer or Moderna..both hard to deliver to third world). [Even worse if the 50.4% efficacy of the chinese vaccine is used]. If herd immunity is delayed a long time then breakout can occur. I hope JnJ has good efficacy and if so the world pop can get it vs something with lower efficacy.

It just means we may never be able to reduce covid to the level of polio in the modern world or eliminate it like smallpox. But we will likely be able to treat it, trace it, and perhaps contain it.

Since the vaccines have had near-100% efficiency in reducing mortality and even hospitalizations, if we redefine "herd immunity" to "herd keep-people-out-of-the-hospital" then the equations get better.

In the new world I'd be all for less crowding (social distancing). Especially when standing in lines. I've always hated being crowded from behind in the grocery store line... it's like people can't wait to push you out of the way. Space Awareness forever!!!

I'd like to see the stretching room come back as it is so important to the whole experience, but not try to cram in as many people. Maybe there's an option to skip the stretching room if you aren't comfortable there?

I'm with you though on the fireworks crowd... I'm finding my own little space somewhere. I must be an anomaly among the general population because I truly value personal space.

I don't have a problem with many of the plexiglass dividers that are everywhere, especially for cashiers. What a great way to protect workers who have no defense against uncaring germ spreaders.

In the future, after full vaccinations and a hopeful end to the pandemic, I'll only wear a mask if I've got a cold and want to avoid spreading my germs to others. At that time, if I find myself in an uncomfortable situation, I'll either put on a mask or more likely just not be there. I won't walk around WDW for hours, especially in the heat, wearing a mask. In that case, I'd rather go to Hilton Head.

Plexiglass dividers do next to nothing unless someone sneezes or coughs right at you. This is especially true for the ones I've seen many places that are 2 feet wide and barely above my head level. The buffet sneeze guards don't do nearly as much as we'd like to believe especially as there are kids walking around shorter than the guards.

We're not much for parades and fireworks in crowded places anyway. Like I'll watch fireworks from outside a park in our room, do a cruise... I have some issues with crowds (irrational) that are stationary anyway - and even moving I don't like strangers on top of me. So no real change for us.

A part of me welcomes strangers having to not be closer than 6' to me but I was that way pre‐pandemic

We can barely keep people and businesses to follow distancing protocol when four thousand people a day are dying in the U.S. at the worst time of a worldwide pandemic.

If anyone thinks that any sort of distancing will continued to be followed once 'it is over' are perpetual denizens of Fantasyland.

I've always been a leery of buffets anyway. I like the option to have tons of food choices in front of me but I'd prefer a server dishing them up.

I'm no expert in germ transmission but I'd think that some Plexiglas helps more than none. If installed correctly?

I'm kind of in the middle of the positions of the frequent posters on this thread. I'm not a "wear double masks forever" kind of guy and I'm not an "I'll never wear a mask and you can't make me" kind of guy. I believe that "slowing" the spread (while we wait on a vaccination plan that protects us, for the most part) of the virus requires, as with most things in life, a measured reasonable approach. Do what you can and should, within reason while continuing to live life without crawling into a permanent isolated bubble. Reasonable....what an old-fashioned idea .
