It pretty much is a useless echo chamber when you only have a handful of people that want to participate. It’s a shame they starting allowing politics in the non political section. Like I said there are plenty of forums to discuss political issues and there are plenty of Disney forums that don’t allow politics.
The back and forth bashing political figures probably turns a lot of people off. It used to be a interesting thread.

It is their forum, their rules, and to be honest I prefer it to more heavily moderated sites. I do feel your frustration with the handful of posters who post the same comments non-stop (almost always pessimistic). The ignore feature helps a lot with that particular issue.

If I had my own site (and I never will), I would give everyone a lifetime number of posts, say 3,000, then they would be able to “read only” after they spent them. It would force people to self-regulate and would cut down on arguing.

All things considered, this is my favorite Disney site. Even with politics pervading everything these days.

I’m not a fan of the off topic political banter either. I think it’s fair game to be critical of the current administration for their national response on Covid and certainly fair game to be critical of the governors of FL and CA for their less than stellar handling of parts of their state responses since it directly impacts the Disney parks. You can’t completely keep politics out, but it should be kept on topic.

I prefer the heavily moderated threads, but to each their own. Hopefully everyone that participates in this thread can keep it civilized. Things could get weird the next couple of weeks.

I've been saying this for a while now. Well, perhaps without the civil war part. But right now, incumbent politicians have an enormous amount of political pressure to make things look as good and normal as possible going into the election. Once that is in the rearview mirror, regardless of who wins and who loses, I think we will start to see a change of tone on Covid. Numbers have been looking bad for some time now, and are likely only to get worse as cold and flu season intensifies.

I do not think we will see a national push for a lockdown, but I do think one-by-one you will start to see individual states go that route again. It will likely look different than it did in March and April, just as England's new lockdown has more exceptions than it did before. I think we have learned a lot, and I also think people's tolerances are different at this stage. But I do think going back to more restrictions is pretty inevitable for the fall and winter.

No. Not going to happen. Individual states or counties in states already started pulling back but we absolutely will not have a nationwide push like there was back in March, I think anyone paying attention knows exactly why.

Political comments off or on topic weren't allowed. It's was just in the last couple of weeks when they started allowing them and tagged the thread "Politics". I think everyone on here knows that.

Fair enough, the banner is new. I try to stay out of what I consider the obvious off topic stuff, but I don’t think we can avoid talking about actions (positive or negative) of various levels of government on their Covid response. I see nothing wrong with criticizing the governor of CA for not allowing DLR to be open or the governor of FL for allowing the virus to run free. From the start we have always discussed stay at home orders, travel bans, vaccines and stimulus plans as they relate to Covid and travel. Talk about obvious off topic stuff like the Supreme Court or protests or attacks against individual politicians should be considered off topic IMHO.

This brings us back to the start of the circle again.

1. Travel is a terrible idea now
2. The economic depression is also terrible.

So how do you solve that? Back to testing and isolation again. It allows most resumption while not sacrificing overall communal Health.

You know who else felt safe? Most people who get COVID-19.

Different folks act differently when they feel safe.

Some folks who feel safe go to mass gatherings with no masks, no distancing, no sanitation. These folks are at a high risk of getting COVID, they most likely will get COVID, they most likely will not die from COVID.

Some folks feel safe because if masking, distancing, and sanitation. I suspect the folks who feel safe when masking, distancing, and sanitizing have less of a chance of getting COVID.

Its sad to see so many places go back to lockdowns. Here they are trying their best to keep most businesses open. What they need to figure out is how to slow the spread from family gatherings and schools. I don't know what that answer is.

I think this is a fair assessment although part of the problem with the people doing stuff with no masks, distancing or sanitation is a lot of them still don’t get Covid which then just makes people more likely to avoid taking precautions. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve heard say things like “we did XYZ and nobody got sick so I think it’s fine to do”. It’s sorta like Russian roulette where you may play for a while and get the empty chamber but eventually you lose.
