Just avoid the campgrounds. Unless you want to go hardcore, old school where you do your business in the woods and don’t shower for a week

We will be doing a stay vacation here I live in a town with 1000 people and most houses are on 1 or more acres. We have a boat landing and access to miles and mile of beaches and only way to get there is by boat very few people will be out there only locals. Play it safe this summer until I am sure this is over.

Anyone with a 4th grader can get in free to all National Parks, including many landmarks.

Good idea don't shower for a week any one that avoids you you know they probably don't have the virus. Sign of infection loss of smell anyone that comes near you they probably got it

I'm a little fuzzy on AP structure (normally would renew in mid April, but now it will be allowed in mid May?). Although it's tempting to think crowds will be thin when WDW reopens, I am not altogether sure we won't be guinea pigs for the inevitable new guidelines that will be brought out. I remember being bothered by the bag checks (now almost 2 decades ago!) - but now it's just a part of the process. I am sure any new guidelines will become rote in time as well.

Alaska is closed, Canada is closed, I wish they would close Montana as it is where my family lives. I don't think you can get in without a disguise

Some additional inside info from the midwest:
1) Many hospitals are now requiring ALL staff to wear masks at ALL times.
2) All hospitals are expanding ICU capacities by turning other floors into ICU beds (Post-anesthesia recovery, surgery, etc)
3) The hospitals are right on the verge of a surge. Some expected it several days ago and it didn't quite happen, but it is starting to happen now.
4) Smaller hospitals are harder hit. A small suburban hospital might have only 12 ICU beds typically. Now they need dozens. Whereas, a large city academic center can much more easily expand by transforming other units or stealing staff from elsewhere.
5) Testing is improving but is still mainly happening in people who require hospitalization/inpatient services - which skews the numbers. Lots of people who are recovering at home just fine are not being tested. Hopefully the newly approved Abbott Point of Care test will start to add capacity tomorrow. (these machines are mainly located in urgent care or primary care physician offices around the country)

The local county hospital here is 12 ICU capacity. They have opened up an additional unit with 5 beds for more cases and have 21 ventilators for the hospital. As of the 27th they have tested 77 ppl, 11 positive, 34 negative, and 32 pending. The urgent care clinic has been converted to a respiratory triage to assess cases. This is for a county population of around 44k, so I don't feel there is much being expanded upon for testing here. The health department won't release where positive cases have visited in the last 14 days and relying solely on tracing contacts to advise who needs to quarantine.

It’s much easier to avoid crowds at the Outer Banks. Mostly just hanging at the beach and rental home. Should be one of the less risky vacations to do.

Are the staying in a rental house? If so, I can’t imagine the issue with it. Unless some just don’t want to be around anyone not in their household.

Yes, we have a house rented for a week. My parents are both in the high risk group not just for age, but medical conditions. They are both RNs, and are quarantining themselves as much as possible. I live a few hours away, my brother lives about 5 mins from them. He’s now grocery shopping for them and leaving it at the door so they don’t have to go out. If this is still a major issue come august, I don’t see my parents going.

Not likely to head to wdw this summer, but man I do hope my family can go to the outer banks with my parents and brother’s family. That’s planned for august right now.

The Outer Banks are completely closed to non-residents at the moment. They aren't even allowing property owners on if they aren't permanent residents.

Seems harsh, but it's understandable -- they only have 20 hospital beds so they can't handle any kind of influx.

Yeah, I would hope that conditions have improved significantly by August.

The former commissioner to the FDA (2017-2019) is suggestion this as a roadmap to reopen.
